As we were loading up our vehicle for the ride back home, the bell hop recommended May's Parlor for breakfast. We visit VA Beach often, but we were unaware of May's Parlor. So we decided to check out Bobby 's recommendation. May's looks like a...small cottage on the outside, next to the Subway on Pacific. The only parking available is on the street, as there is no parking lot. There are a few tables outside, and several tables inside as well as a short sit down bar. As we walked into May's we were hit by the aroma of fresh baked goods. We initially thought we entered a Bakery, but noted that they served a few breakfast items. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful in their recommendations. They were fairly busy but service was surprisingly fast. We easily found an available table inside. I ordered the BEC Sandwich which was a Bacon, Egg, white cheddar cheese & garlic aioli on a house-made "everything " brioche bun. Absolutely delicious! Very creamy and filling. My Honey ordered the Quiche of the day which she enjoyed immensely. We also bought a couple pastries to go that we ate later. They were outstanding. Looks like we found a new spot to stop on the way out of town and to fulfill our sweet tooth needs during our stay. May's Parlor is truly a gem. We highly recommend for breakfast or pastries. We noted many people picking up their orders. If you go to their website you can order online for pick-up.More
Stopped by May’s looking to satisfy my sweet fix during my stay at the nearby Hyatt House. Lots of interesting baked good/pastry options. I grabbed some random items (chocolate crinkle cookie, blueberry scone and cinnamon bun) and all were winners…some of the best I’ve had....Prices seemed very fair ($2.75 cookies, $3.50-$5 pastries, and $3-$5 drinks). There also offer a variety of sandwiches which were about $10-12. There is both indoor and outdoor tables/chairs. The space is very neat and well-kept. All staff I encountered there were helpful and efficient.More
Cute little shop with outdoor seating and available parking. Staff were pleasant and efficient. Restaurant was clean. Wow factor when you walk in and see the bakery case. Unfortunately the flavors don’t match the presentation. Croissant was good but the lox on it was overly...fishy. Saltiest capers I’ve ever had. The macaroon was a little dense but the filling was more like buttercream than an airy macaroon filling. Coffee service was very fast, it just wasn’t very tasty. We both threw the coffee and went somewhere else.More
Great coffee and delicious treats. I had the veggie breakfast sandwich which was yummy and very filling. All the baked good looked amazing but I settled on the cinnamon bun with cream cheese icing, no regrets! So often the icing for cinnamon buns is too...sweet, but this was perfect.More
I love this place. It has a great relaxed beach vibe, and a friendly staff. They have geat baked goods, and their breakfast sandwiches are amazing. Ummm the best bread. Coffee is good too.
We went to Mays three times: twice for breakfast treats and once for lunch. Did not disappoint. Everything was delicious. Staff was very friendly.
We stopped by mid-morning to pick up a takeout lunch. The staff kindly took down the board with the breakfast menu to show us the lunch menu on the reverse side. Our choice of smoked salmon on a croissant was an excellent one. It was...delicious. There was so much smoked salmon included that we each had half a sandwich leftover to eat the next day. The pastries looked wonderful, so we'll have to try them the next time that we visit.More
Picked up breakfast treats a couple of times during our week staying nearby. It's not inexpensive, but the food's worth the money. Looks like they offered excellent quiche and other entrees, as well as amazingly decadent looking desserts, too.
The virus rules here are being enacted by forming a line with persons standing a few feet apart and then gradually working their way up a wooden ramp, around a corner until the first person in line peeks in the tiny wood-door window to see...if four people are inside the ordering area. It was slightly chilly and windy while waiting in the line. People in line were not hostile, but not friendly either. Once inside, the very small ordering area had few menu boards- one on the coffee/smoothie side and one on the bakery side. There were only three food items listed on that side. One of the employees who was charged with checking the door, to make sure no more than four people came in or that more came in to get four.... seemed tense. In the end, I paid about $8.50 for what I thought would be a bagel (but was brioche) with bacon, egg and cheese. Okay, but not great. I asked for crispy bacon and 1/3 of it was medium rare. There was no place to eat out on the small outside (windswept) patio area. Maybe I'm missing something here.... nostalgia, ambiance, a specialty dish. But it seemed not worth the 25 minute wait. More like waiting in line for a bus ticket in the front of a barracks.More
I received a box of pastries as a Christmas gift from a business. Bottom line, everything was quite stale. My guess is this $58 box of goodies was baked and packaged maybe several days ago and refrigerated (too long) awaiting delivery . The firm I...received the gift from probably ordered 40 or so of these boxes in advance which proved to be more business than they could handle and still deliver a fresh product. Im sure if you walk in and order anything it is terrific, but forget large orders at holiday time. Too bad, I really dislike writing these kinds of reviews but it must be said.More
This place is amazing. The coffee is perfection. I had a a macchiato. It was the beat I have ever had. Honestly perfect. My husband had a mocha and it was excellent. My boys had lemonade and limeade. Both were tasty. The service was wonderful....This place is a must!More
If you live in Virginia Beach or are visiting and looking for delicious breakfast treats, breakfast sandwiches, quiche, and/or lunch, there's no doubt, May's will be the only place you'll need to stop. Their cruffins (croissant-muffin) are delectable. Check their website or Facebook page as...their tasty treats change regularly. Parking is tricky and the only place to park is right out front and there are only about three spots so maybe plan ahead and drop off someone to place your order. You can also call ahead to order. If you're headed south on Pacific Ave. be alert as you drive pass the Subway (on the right). May's is tucked back from the road (on the right) and you can easily pass it.More
Mays Parlor is literally the best little cafe I’ve ever been to! My sister, myself, and a few of our friends took a girls trip to VA beach and just happened to stumble upon May’s only a couple weeks after they first opened several years...ago and we LOVED it from the first second we walked in the door! We go back to VA Beach almost every summer and our first stop is always here! The staff is excellent and they’re all just so lovely, their drinks are delicious, and don’t even get me started on their deliciously creative pastries and menu items! If I lived in Virginia, I’d be here pretty much every single day! I highly recommend checking them out :)More
Easy to miss on the corner of 28th with a tiny parking lot out back. Visitors and locals would do well to cruise up on their bikes for a phenomenal blueberry or chocolate chip with orange icing scone. The cruffins are delectable as well. No...inside seating, at least at this time, but a couple of tables outside and you could always walk to the boardwalk to enjoy the view. Quiche and other items look amazing. I’ll be back for lunch eventually! Thanks for serving with the safety of your customers in mind!More
