Virginia's COVID rules at the moment are causing challenges, no doubt.
But my first experience at Bite of Maine was not a good one due to service, but more than that, due to lack of respect of the customer.
When I arrived before 11am and...stood in line, in the hot sun (not much provision for shade) I was told, "We have no fish until 11:30am" so I ordered there, and came back 30+ minutes later per the cashier's instruction. The cashier took my phone number and said she would also call me (she never did).
I was mostly ignored, but finally got someone's attention and they said, "your order will be out right away," For the next 10+ minutes fish orders were coming to the door and names called out, but not mine.
Then I inquired and the employee said it would be out in 1.5 minutes. After 10 more minutes I asked another employee and he said they lost my ticket and kind of apologized. After another 7 minutes, I asked and he went back inside, without responding. Meanwhile, another person with my name was called (it had fish), but not my order. He was sure of that. After several more minutes it came, no apology or explanation.... just would you like to leave a tip?
There is a difference between an honest screw-up and lying (more than one time).
So how was the food?
I got the rather expensive Fisherman's Platter. It came with a load of soggy french fries- they were not crisp and not very tasty. There was a very small serving of scallops and shrimp plus two haddock- both medium large size. The haddock was very tasty.
But the food was not worth $31- especially since the fries were not good and composed 50%+ of the order weight. The scallops and shrimp portions were tiny.
Probably will not return to a place that seems to systematically disrespect its customers. It's not worth waiting 50+ minutes, and standing in the hot sun.More
