Food is always good and hot. Just a fun little place. It does not look like much, but it is much loved by visitor's to Crabtree Falls. Staff are wonderful.

Super friendly staff. Great food with great value. Love the coziness. Definitely go on Saturday morning for the biscuits and gravy. Sandwiches on other days are wonderful as well.

While touring the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia, we found Gerties on the Trip Advisor website. The drive off Highway 11 takes you along a lovely winding road to Gerties. Nothing to look at from the outside, but the fun is all inside. It is...small with less than a dozen tables. The walls are literally covered in notes, comments, drawings of those who have passed through the doors. The staff could not be more delightful. The food was very reasonably priced and made on the spot when you order. If you are in a mad dash to get to your next tourist stop, take a breather and wait here a few extra minutes for your food. It arrives hot and is well prepared. The portions are plentiful and the quality of the food very good. We were there on a Friday and the special was fried fish baskets. I received a very large portion of cod that was properly battered and fried accompanied by delicious crispy fries. This place is a gem and one of those fun, off the beaten path places you enjoy finding when you are on the road.More

We loved Gertie’s. Fish & Chips were the Friday special and it was EXCELLENT ! Perfectly fried with a house beer batter. Friendly staff a “hole in the wall” place we loved.

We were staying at a VRBO/farm just up the mountain from here, and decided to stop here for lunch. It was awesome. The husband and wife owners were super nice and cute, and the food was great. I got the steak and cheese sub, which...was really good, and my wife got a burger, which was also good. We got some other sides, and the total was about $25. I will be craving that steak sub, and highly recommend this place to others.More

Stopped off on the way to Crabtree Falls today. Super friendly service and great food! We were going to get sandwiches to go; but the place was empty, so we stayed for brunch. 3 of us had the platters with 2 pieces of toast, 2...eggs, home fries, and either bacon or country ham. Daughter had the platter with chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, and eggs. Coffee was much appreciated. Had to roll out to the falls.More

Gertie's is popular with bicyclists who are riding the TransAmerica bicycle trail. My husband stopped there in 2019 when he pedaled from San Francisco, CA to Yorktown, VA. He loved it, so when we were traveling through the area this year, of course we had...to stop. The business changed hands shortly after he rode through, but is still just as good. It's owned now by a young couple with a baby, and I think the previous owner is still working there. We had chili dogs (all beef dogs with very yummy chili on top). The french fries were super hot and super tasty too! It's a no-frills little place with just a few tables and picnic tables out back. Many people have written their names all over the walls - many of them cyclists from all over the world. It's that kind of place. They have a few local handmade items for sale too. If you need a little gift for someone, you might find it here. Even though we were there during Covid times, they seemed to be doing a steady business. Good for them!More

This is a true local place with an unimpressive exterior. The food was quite impressive! All our meals were freshly made and delicious; one of the best burgers we ever had! Definitely not disappointed.

We were hiking at Crabtree Falls and worked up an appetite for lunch. Around 10 miles up the road we found Gertie’s and decided to try it based on good reviews from Facebook. So glad we did! Friendly people and excellent food. My BLT was...one of the best I’ve ever had. My husband loved his cheesesteak and my son loved his bacon cheeseburger. The fries were great too. And for dessert, the best homemade blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream! This is real food made by real folks and you can taste the love.More

Lets face it Vesuvius Virginia is not overflowing with places to eat - assuming you can find Vesuvius. Most would pass the "General Store" without a thought about eating there. Exterior appearance tends to give one the impression of pass on it, but the food...was good. The limited menu consists of breakfast fare, hamburgers, hot dogs, homemade BBQ, and the daily special. We had the BBQ with sweet potato fries and were pleased. Interior decor consist of five or six basic tables with polite graffiti on the walls and ceiling. We tend toward local homegrown operations where we can find one and this fit the bill for a lunch in the backwater of Virginia.More

Just happened upon this place on our way up to Wintergreen. The food was delicious, loved the barbeque and the sweet potato fries. It is under new management, by a very nice and friendly young couple. But they have Gertie's recipes I was assured. Definitely...worth a stop if you are in the area. Has a nice shelter and picnic tables to eat outside too. Not too far from Route 11, so you can stop off on your way through.More

We were staying in the area and were happy when they reopened last Friday. We stopped in for breakfast and met the new owners who were as nice as can be! The breakfast was delicious-my kids all gave it two thumbs up! They are still...renovating, but trying to keep the old look of the place. We would definitely go back!More

We stopped by for breakfast and were treated to a good home cooked meal and wonderful conversation with the new owners. The home fried potatoes were perfect. They have great plans Gertie's while still catering to the local flavor of a small town. Bikers and...hikers are always welcome. I look forward to eating there again. The restaurant is newly renovated but still has that homey feeling.More
