Admittedly, this was not our original lunch destination. And after pulling up to the store, I was less than confident about even walking in. Thankfully, I was overruled and we checked it out. What a fun stop for lunch. Couple of hot dogs, some fries,...More

We visited this gem a year ago and could not wait to come back on this year's trip. A true hole in the wall off the beaten path, but a local favorite. We have been told the barbecue is fabulous, but we are hooked on...More

The iExit app on my cell phone alerted us to a local BBQ sandwich place. Gertie’s won’t win any architectural awards for building excellence — but the woman who worked the kitchen and rung up our order was polite, efficient, and accommodating. We arrived at...More

My wife and I were driving and we turned the wrong way and drove and drove and drove. Gertie's was recommended. If you like BBQ, simply stated, this is the REAL DEAL. Not crazy about the hamburger bun, maybe a kaiser roll, but OMG it...More

Not what we expected. Quaint place, very nice people but not empressed with the food. It was not horrible but not what I would return to eat there.

From the moment I walked in, I knew this was a quaint little place. We were greeted immediately by the friendly owner. She made us feel just like she had known us for years. We ordered the homemade BBQ, a hamburger with cheese, and potato...More

Go for the barbeque-it's sweet and delicious. Cole slaw excellent and fries fresh cooked. We got ours to go as we were staying at nearby Alpine Cabins at Steele's Tavern, but enjoyed listening to the conversation at this Vesuvius, Va.community center.

My mom and I stopped in here for BBQ sandwiches after climbing Crabtree Falls and Spy Rock. The BBQ was pretty good. I guess it's Virginia bbq, not Carolina like we were expecting, being from Hampton Roads. It was more saucy. It was very good...More

There was not much selection at all from the store front. Apparently the BBQ restaurant section is the area to go to. Although the store itself was dank, isolated and eerie. Felt like something from a "Silent Hill... More

I hope the vibe will be better than the unwelcoming reception I walked in upon. It was like stepping into the set of the "Hateful Eight". The store was all that was open when I went and there was only dusty old candy, a... More
