Excellent sandwiches for our lunch on Blue Ridge Parkway, friendly service and convenient location on the way to the Parkway.

This is a true local place with an unimpressive exterior. The food was quite impressive! All our meals were freshly made and delicious; one of the best burgers we ever had! Definitely not disappointed.

We were hiking at Crabtree Falls and worked up an appetite for lunch. Around 10 miles up the road we found Gertie’s and decided to try it based on good reviews from Facebook. So glad we did! Friendly people and excellent food. My BLT was...one of the best I’ve ever had. My husband loved his cheesesteak and my son loved his bacon cheeseburger. The fries were great too. And for dessert, the best homemade blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream! This is real food made by real folks and you can taste the love.More

We dined at Gerties on a thursday evening and loved it. Don't let the looks fool you.... this is a legit treasure. The owner was super friendly. The food was cheap and good. Don't miss it... just off the parkway...

Lets face it Vesuvius Virginia is not overflowing with places to eat - assuming you can find Vesuvius. Most would pass the "General Store" without a thought about eating there. Exterior appearance tends to give one the impression of pass on it, but the food...was good. The limited menu consists of breakfast fare, hamburgers, hot dogs, homemade BBQ, and the daily special. We had the BBQ with sweet potato fries and were pleased. Interior decor consist of five or six basic tables with polite graffiti on the walls and ceiling. We tend toward local homegrown operations where we can find one and this fit the bill for a lunch in the backwater of Virginia.More

Just happened upon this place on our way up to Wintergreen. The food was delicious, loved the barbeque and the sweet potato fries. It is under new management, by a very nice and friendly young couple. But they have Gertie's recipes I was assured. Definitely...worth a stop if you are in the area. Has a nice shelter and picnic tables to eat outside too. Not too far from Route 11, so you can stop off on your way through.More

We were staying in the area and were happy when they reopened last Friday. We stopped in for breakfast and met the new owners who were as nice as can be! The breakfast was delicious-my kids all gave it two thumbs up! They are still...renovating, but trying to keep the old look of the place. We would definitely go back!More

We stopped by for breakfast and were treated to a good home cooked meal and wonderful conversation with the new owners. The home fried potatoes were perfect. They have great plans Gertie's while still catering to the local flavor of a small town. Bikers and...hikers are always welcome. I look forward to eating there again. The restaurant is newly renovated but still has that homey feeling.More

Just wow. We wanted authentic Southern food and hospitality on our honeymoon, and Gertie's delivered big time! Tammy is the sweetest, most precious lady, and she made the best home fries I've ever had - truly unlike anything I've had before. The Big Buck breakfast...was beyond satisfying. I laughed when I ordered my eggs sunny side up, and Tammy came back with my food and sweetly said she just can't serve a cold egg, so she turned it just for one second - making sure I could still dip my toast in it! What really makes Gertie's stand apart is the warmth. Tammy talked with my husband and I for nearly an hour about life and love as if I'd known her forever. These Yankees cannot wait to come back and enjoy Gertie's again!More

Though the menu is limited, the quality of the burgers is not! Great lean patty with the freshest tomato and lettuce served with chips or fries. The wings are not especially big but the special sauce made by the owner/chef was just fantastic! Just the...right amount of sweetness and a great heat that left my mouth and lips tingling for an hour! It's a quaint place that would remind you country stores in many of the small out of the way towns and villages in our countryMore

There was not much selection at all from the store front. Apparently the BBQ restaurant section is the area to go to. Although the store itself was dank, isolated and eerie. Felt like something from a "Silent Hill... More

I hope the vibe will be better than the unwelcoming reception I walked in upon. It was like stepping into the set of the "Hateful Eight". The store was all that was open when I went and there was only dusty old candy, a... More
