We opted to have breakfast here vs the hotel breakfast. It was just OK. My son opted for the French toast special, which he liked. They were not able to make me poached eggs, so I opted for over medium, which ended up coming out...as over easy. The sausage was just fair. I was really disappointed, though, with the biscuit--seemed to be cold and hard. The staff, however, were really nice and accomodating!More

We chose this restaurant because it was next to our hotel. The food was ok but the staff was excellent, very sweet and polite.

We had lunch at Rowe's today. My husband had the hamburger which was charred on one side; he opted not to send it back. I wanted the pinto beans which were not available. The collard greens were terrible and I am not a picky eater....I think they were mixed green greens from a can. A few pieces of pork were thrown in and something that I thought was a piece of ham but it was rock hard.More

The menu online looked extensive but the menu at the restaurant was very short. Even then, they were out of several entrees and sides. We were there at 5pm so not late. My husband had a club sandwich which was OK but had a lot...of lettuce. I had the Turkey Reuben which was very dry. Our waitress was very friendly and apologized for the abbreviated menu. It was an OK visit but will probably not return.More

Passing through and decided give this local venue a try. I am glad I did not read reviews before going inside. The food and the family atmosphere were just what we need. It was like eating at grandma's from days gone by. Thank you for...a nice experience. Keep Smilin'More

We visited Mrs Rowe's Restaurant in Staunton VA last Sunday. We dined there many times before and loved it. This time, there was nothing good about it. We ordered the turkey meal and it was as tasty as a TV dinner. The rolls were not...fresh and did not taste home-made. They were out of cranberry sauce. We purchased $72 at the bakery, a chocolate pie, a dozen chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies an an apple pie. The chocolate pie and cookies were so terrible we ended up throwing them away. The cookies tasted like they were made with lard. We won't be stopping there again.More

My wife and I lived in this area for over 30 years and always meant to eat here. We finally did today and were fairly disappointed. We'd always heard it was an excellent place to eat and had great steaks. They did not have real...steak only chopped steak and similar. What we got was ok. The waitress was not very friendly. Food was not bad but not worth a return visit.More

4 friends and I have met and eaten here 3 times in 3 months. Each time has been successively worse. Today finished it for us. I had the worst hamburger ever (dry, overcooked to gray color and thin.) The average fast-food place does better than...this one was. My friends had different meals, but all of us agreed that the food is not even average, nothing like it was years ago. I think Mrs. Rowe would be appalled. I had, at an earlier visit, bought cookies. We threw them out-tasteless and hard. One friend previously bought a pie, he and his wife ended up throwing it out. The table top was very sticky, menu stuck to it, tea glasses stuck to it. I think it was clean, but the finish is deteriorating. The best part of the meal was the server, Rylee S. She did a good job. We all tipped her well, but will not be returning to Mrs. Rowe's.More

We have been stopping the Best Western on our yearly jaunt to and from Philadelphia to visit family there. Each time we checked in we've decided to go somewhere else for dinner - but tonight - we decided to try it. I had the Beef...liver & onions (2 pieces) and the wife had the Chicken pot pie with sweetened cornbread topping. Two sides came with the L&O and one with the CPP. I ordered an additional side salad. The place is short on help - which we knew ahead of time - so we were patient. We waited roughly 20+ minutes for the food to be delivered to the table which is about avg. The CPP was in a large serving dish with a piece of sweet corn bread covering the whole top. Mine L&O was arranged nicely on a plate with plenty of onions that were softened by grill. My sides - other than the salad were baked apples (excellent texture - sweetness and amount) and mashed potatoes with gravy. The first surprise we got was the taste of the odd mix of sweet corn bread as a topping on the CPP. For my wife - it really didn't work for her. She ate the mix but stated she wouldn't order it again. On my plate - I cut into a really thin, tuff and dry piece of Liver. It was hard to choke down each bite. I finally had enough and asked the waitress for some gravy hoping to help the meat slide down easier. That was no better than the non-gravy bite. Finally, I had enough of the first piece that I just quit the L&O and went to the sides which were all very good. When the waitress returned and asked how things were - I told her and her response was "well you ate one piece". I guess after traveling for 7+ hours in rain and heavy traffic - I just didn't feel like sitting there until they fixed anther order which would have been exactly the same as the first since all the Liver being served was the same thickness according to the waitress. They offered a discount on the meal which was accepted. The final observation was of the lady who ran the cash register. Really a sourpuss. No smile, no conversation, not even a response to a couple of questions I asked her. I have to feel sorry for folks like this who are the face of their business. Yep - This was the famous Mrs. Rowe and she acted like she had all the business she needed from regular customers which is a good thing because between her attitude with me - a new customer in her restaurant for the first time - and state of what we had been served - it was clear to me she didn't need my money. I completely understand her age and health condition may be playing a big part in what I experienced. I'm 80 myself. I feel sorry for her if that's the case - but the future may not look too bright for the restaurant employees who are trying to make ends meet. From conversations with folks at hotels in the area - she cannot get enough help to keep the doors open on a consistent basis. I'm sure the Covid-19 effect is in play here as it is everywhere else. Great food - which apparently has been a standard in the past - and presenting a pleasant attitude to ALL customers - not just the "regulars" - will help the effort immensely.More

Filthy. Table was so sticky the plates stuck. Food was mediocre at best. Restrooms are worse than roadside service stations. Wait staff was the only positive. Mrs. Rowe would be ashamed.

I had previously eaten at Rowe's years ago and it was fantastic home cooking and great pies. Recently revisited with a friend and was very disappointed. Service was fine, but the food was very mediocre at best. And the famous pies and cookies were also...disappointing. I guess it must have taken a hit during the pandemic and hope that they can return to their previous standards. I also noticed that they no longer have pre-made food in freezer, which used to be great.More

This was my second time eating here with Senior Center. We ate there coming back from the Amish Country in Pennsylvania. At first I ordered a BBQ sandwich. Our server came back to table to let us know that they were out of BBQ. I...decided to try their hamburger. Since I was allowed one side, I got fries. These were seasoned. Running out of BBQ was a good thing, because my hamburger and fries tasted great. Way to to go Mrs. Rowe's in Staunton, VA! Highly recommend!More

What an amazing find on our way home from VA Tech graduation! Homemade biscuits and rye toast included homemade apple butter. Outstanding! Who makes rye bread anymore? Mrs Rose’s, that’s who. The pie case was full of incredible looking pies; unfortunately it was too early...in the day for dessert. Hands down a much better choice than the Cracker Barrel next door!More

Went for dinner at recommendation of hotel staff. Might have been better at lunch when food was fresh. All of our food had obviously been kept under warming lights for a long time! Cheese on Mac and cheese was so hard and dry couldn't cut...with a fork. Gravy on turkey plate was like jello. Lunch might have been better. Wish we had done something else.More

It’s a tradition to stop in Staunton and have a meal here. Great for breakfast. Bought one of their cook books years ago and some of my favorite recipes are in it.
