The Texas Tavern (or the T&T as Roanokers call it) is a Roanoke Icon. This place is somewhere the locals go for food for all sorts of reason. Lunch is big, quick dinner but I will always remember the T&T as the place to go in the wee early hours of the morning after being out with the crowd all... More

If you're in Roanoke, and somebody tells you to eat a Roanoke Wiener Stand hot dog because they're the best, know this: THEY'RE WRONG!!! Texas Tavern has the best hot dog chili in town, and they're open 24 hours. You just can't beat it, so when you get to our little city, swing into our great little downtown and grab... More

Nothing fancy, just good food fast. One of my favorite places that is always open no matter what day or time.

Wile passing through Roanoke, I had to take my children to Texas Tavern. My Grandparents lived on Day Avenue (a few blocks away) and growing up my Uncle Vince use to take me here when ever I was visiting. Walking in took me back 40 years in time. The same smells, same look and possibly some of the same people.... More

You can't truly experience Roanoke without hitting is place for a burger or some chili. Get "one with" and join the club! In all honesty, this is a fun little spot and the food is very good. A true "greasy spoon" and an experience you have to have if you come downtown.

We visited for lunch and ate in. The cook was friendly. The restaurant is a hole in the wall but worth trying. The prices were reasonable for the portion you get. There was some 1 hour curbside parking in front of the building.

Open 24 hours a day and in business since 1932. It is a local short order grill, absolutely nothing fancy but a fun place to go. Expect nice service and okay food at this Roanoke institution.

Good chili and tiny burger. My boys liked the hot dogs. This is a serious dive, but was an interesting experience sitting at the metal counter talking with the nice server.

One of a kind place that will leave a lasting and unforgettable impression on you. This is not the place for a large group traveling together.....the place only seats 10 at a time. It is known far and wide as THE place for a hotdog and conversation.

"Only In Virginia" led us here, best tiny restaurants in the state, that's an understatement! Unbelivable prices, character & characters are the cook-staff/servers! Rapid_fire! We think our entire diner experience (waiting for seats, order, service, eating, paying, next?) may have only been 13 minutes!! They do volume business, lots of traffic while we were there & have regulars.

Description
On Feb. 13Th, 1930 during the height of the great depression, I.N. "Nick" Bullington opened the 10 stool Texas Tavern and began serving its famous bowls of chile, hamburgers, hotdogs, and cheesy westerns. With a no frills atmosphere and the motto "Give the customer a fair shake" the Texas Tavern has become a landmark and a rite of passage for many locals and visitors alike. Known as "Roanoke's Millionaires Club",
it is still run by the same family, now in its 4th generation of ownership.
