We still do takeout even tinhough we are vaccinated. They are open for eat-in with nice new tables socially distanced & staff masked. We had Thai won ton soup, egg rolls with great sweet & sour sauce; fried won ton, sweet & sour chicken, sautéed...eggplant with pork; and pork fried rice. Everything was fabulous! I encourage lovers of Thai food to help keep this family's restaurant open & patronize their restaurant.More
- Service was attentive, but not “in your face”
- They stocked Chang beer, which pairs so well with the food
- All the dishes we ordered were really good: Grilled Beef Salad (could’ve used more mint), Chicken Satay (would’ve liked the peanut sauce...to have been warm but it was tasty nonetheless), Basil Chicken (excellent; request an over easy egg to cover the rice too), Panang Curry with Pork (more coconut milk please), and Pad Kee Mao with Pork (delicious).
- Roanoke needs more off the wall, different places like this.
- Portions are plenty big; there will be leftovers in all likelihood.
- The restaurant decor takes a little getting used to but the food quickly offsets any negative thoughts.More
I've been to City Corner 2 several times for take out soup. It was good and decently priced. But I never eat in as I can't stand the cheesy and dirty looking decor.
Today I ordered a large Tom Kha soup. Previously it was a...quart of soup with white rice for about $6 or $7. I always thought that was expensive for soup, but it was good and I was willing to pay for it. However, today when I went to pick it up, they charged me $11.12. I'm not paying that much for soup at a place like that. Not to mention the fact that there was about 2" of space between the lid and the soup.
Check out their prices before you go. Also couldn't understand a thing the guy said and he didn't understand me. Overall very frustrating but definitely my last visit.More
This place is definitely going down hill fast, three months ago it was pretty good. Today the food did not seem fresh, and the portion size was much smaller. It appeared that nobody has taken care of the condiment station in a few days,...most of the sauces were completely empty. The waiter brought out one meal and and it took another 10 minutes for my friend to get her plate of food.More
A fellow traveler recommended City Corner 2 when I was talking about another Thai restaurant that didn't impress me...he was not wrong! It's family friendly, affordable, and the food is amazing. I wish that I could remember the name of the dish that I had,...but it was Crab something or other. No fake crab here and it had fresh perfectly cooked vegetables in a savory broth. I ordered it medium to be safe, but will opt for medium hot next time. If you like authentic Thai food, this is your place!More
We had lunch here on Sunday based on TripAdvisor reviews. My husband (who is not finicky) said "could they really have over a hundred friends & relatives who gave them 4 or 5 stars??? Because it can't be based on this food....!!!" Truly, this was...the least-authentic Thai food that we have had (and we've easily eaten at over a hundred Thai restaurants in the past 30 years). It was more like a very bland Americanized Chinese. Even though we ordered each dish "spicy to medium hot" it was bland and mild. We asked for a spice tray to attempt to remedy, but its hard to salvage dishes that were this poor. We ordered Rad Na and it was a dish of overcooked, pale vegetables swimming in bland gravy with a small handful of noodles and a few slices of grey beef. The Pineapple Fried Rice was seasoned with an abundance of powdered chicken bouillon and a few pieces of canned pineapple and overcooked chicken. I doubt the chef has ever stepped foot in Thailand.More
Don't shy away from trying this place based on its location (not downtown or near a lot of other restaurants) -- it was such a treat to eat here! We will be coming back again when we're in town. The atmosphere is cozy and accommodated...our group of 8, including 4 young children. Our kids loved the food as much as we did and the prices can't be beat for this quality. So tasty!More
