The chef was a chemistry major in college. Boy can he concoct some good food. When I looked at the menu I thought it was directly from Europe, but it was the best American food we have had in a long time. The chef really knows how to mix his flavors. We would highly recommend this restaurant.

We flew into Roanoke from California to visit family. Stopped at this restaurant for dinner after our long flight. Excellent healthy meal which is sometimes hard to find. Staff was very knowledgeable about all dining options. I will defintely go back to this restaurant when back in the Roanoke area

While traveling up to vacation recently, my wife decided it was time to eat. In doing so, we stumbled upon this slice of farm to table heaven in Roanoke - Local Roots. Having one of our boys in tow, we were a bit wary of trying something too far off of mainstream, but we are sure glad we did. Yes,... More

What can I say? Everything was wonderful. Husband had: Manhattan (one of the best he's ever had) Vegetable Salad (couldn't stop talking about it) Gnocchi with shredded pork (loved it -- and he's generally a meat and potatoes guy) I had: Tomato and onion salad (very good) Mussels (probably the best I've ever had) Attentive waitstaff who were well informed... This is definitely not for dining on a budget, howev, if you like great food cooked in a creative way this is your place in Roanoke. We had striped bass, mussels, oysters and a 5-cheese appetizer. The food portion was about $100 for two but we also got a bottle of wine ($52) and left with 1/2 bottle. Great food,... More

What a fantastic place! The food is delicious, ungreasy, and fresh. A great wine list. The waiter was hilarious and friendly. I would go here all the time if I lived here!

Always wanted to try it out and really glad I did. Made reservations for Sunday Supper - which I'd recommend simply because seating is limited. The wait staff answered a lot of questions, took good care of us. Food was so good and pretty. We left stuffed. Local bottled beer was as inexpensive as I've ever seen it.

We were visiting Roanoke for our 50th wedding anniversary and made reservations thru open table online stating the occasion and desire to experience the chef's tastings. We received a phone call informing us they could not do a chef's tasting on a busy Sat night but we were told if we still wished to dine with them they would still... More

Most of the items are from local farms. Different heirloom vegetable varieties served in interesting combinations. Service friendly and efficient. Portions are small but delicious.

The girls and I headed to Local Roots while in town for the Miss Virginia pageant. We wanted something a little "more" tan dining at a chain restaurant and boy did we get it. The menu featured about nine choices ranging from $15 for a side salad or cheese platter to $32 for steak. As much as I love to... More
