Fine food if you are a fan of different classic Italian regional cuisines. The rack of lamb with a pecorino crust was medium rare and perfect with al dente vegetables and crispy potatoes. I loved the chocolate torte - deep and dense.

This is a wonderful place to take your family. I have taken my wife and daughter out for brunch a few times. The food and service were great. Atmosphere is great. Take your significant other there for brunch. Or any other meal, for that matter.

My friend and I ate here the other night and it really wasn't a memorable event. The service was good but the food was bland and the pasta was thick and almost undercooked. My friend ordered the chicken cannoli and it looked awful and tasted bland. The cannoli was drowned in cheese and unrecognizable. If you eat with your eyes... More

Tomato mozzarella salad had brown tomatoes. Sent it back. Salads were ok but service was slow- waited an hour. Pasta w chicken and broccoli was flavorless and the small portion was like a child's size meal. Meatballs tasted like frozen ones from Harris Teeter. Only good thing was tiramisu. Should have sent it all back and only eaten dessert and... More

Went to Il Fornaio with a large group while visiting Washington on for a conference. The service was quick and efficient and the food was good. Prawn risotto was good as was the New York Strip. Would go back if in the area again.

We visited the restaurant for a team lunch last week of December. The restaurant was fairly empty, probably due to the holidays but the service and the food was excellent. We tried the appetizers and the different types of pasta, everything was delicious and the portions were the right size.

I have been to Il Fornaio numerous times over the past few years. Every time, the service was excellent and the food was excellent. They have a monthly regional special fixed price dinner that has been great every time I've tried it. They also have a very nice Happy Hour - only a few choices for food, but they're great... More

The servers removed appetizers and soup before we were finished with them, failed to provide fresh silverware, waited 20 minutes for one beer to be delivered and waited 25 minutes for a side dish to be delivered. They had crammed extra tables in spaces they shouldn't have and it made for a very tight and uncomfortable experience. The food was... More

A recent dinner here confirmed a downward trend for this restaurant. Service was poor. Long wait to order, wine didn't come until after salads arrived. Salad and pasta were delicious, my chicken main course was very ho-hum and tough. My husbands veal was tough and dry. I love the atmosphere of this place, but have been disappointed with the food... Elizabeth was our wonderful server and the happy hour food was excellent and tasty. Pleasantly surprised at the great value the pizza, carpaccio and seafood appetizer were, plus the novel cocktails added more joy to the meal. Well done and will definitely go again and again.

Description
In the tradition of Italy's trattorias, the sight, sounds and aromas of authentic Italian cuisine are recreated fresh everyday at Il Fornaio. Literally "the baker" in Italian, Il Fornaio offers wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; housemade and imported pastas; pizzas from a wood burning oven; fresh salads and housemade soups; antipasti and a wide variety of desserts made daily from scratch. The first two weeks of each month a special menu from a different region of Italy is featured as part of Festa Regionale.
