Horrible service... I would never recommend this place to anyone. Our food took forever to come out, was not good, and one of four in our party never even received their food. It was a slow day at lunchtime so no excuses.

The reviews and outward facade give an impression of being a fresh and higher end restaurant- but honestly the experience- abysmal in my view. 1. The wait staff were slowwww. Slow to get my order, slow to give the receipt. Slow to bring out the...beer I ordered. And there was almost no one there, so being busy isn’t it when I could see them hanging out the whole time. 2. I ordered the nacho appetizer, which runs for $10. Imagine my surprise when they come out lukewarm, stale, and the sparse cheese topping is in middle of leftover rigor-mortis. It’s not expensive to make, so that the kitchen should try to pull on over a customer like that is frankly insulting - not even considering the efficacy of serving soulless leftovers at full price. I’m not that critical about food, and this would my first time sending something back in a very long time. 3. At least the staff had the courtesy of writing off the nachos, considering I barely ate any of it. That said, it rubs salt on a sore spot when the card reader default is an 18% tip, in which I need to go out of my way to do the 15% standard while the waitress is hovering right there, awkward. The restaurant should be grateful I don’t give them a 0% for the embarrassing attempt at reusing old food. 4. The only saving grace of this mess was the Chesapeake Burger, which was something of a 6/10 by my books. It was acceptable, the crab cake topping was decent, the side of fries was good. The presentation of it was probably more colorful than the flavors, but it is what it is, but maybe I blame my soured experience on being unable to enjoy it more. I’ll accept that. Anyways, summary; Do better. Stop cheating people with old food when you’re charging premium prices. And the trend for 18% tips is price gouging. Pay your staff better so you don’t need to squeeze our wallets on the way out. 15% is STANDARD, knock it off.More

I went to Roger Brown’s on Saturday, September around 3:45pm. And let me tell you I am only giving this restaurant a 2 star rating because the staff was friendly and the food was GREAT but the service was the worst I have ever had...to experience. Let’s start with making the reservation. I called to make reservations for 3:45pm and was asked if I was making a reservation for 3:45am ?!?. Moving on the host was nice we got seated. Everyone at my table went to the restroom before anyone came to greet us at the table. When I asked where the server was I was told there was a shift change so someone would be out soon. The host brought water to our table and said we ordered it so we told him no one has been by to take a drink order so he took the water back and said oh you don’t need this(he wasn’t rude) He then came back and took our drink order. Our friendly server came and took our order she put in our apps first then she put in our meal order. My sister told her she was still waiting on her drink she said your Diet Coke or Pepsi which ever you have that is diet. She came back with a coke and I told her she wanted diet. So she said the host said you wanted coke. My sister just kept the drink. Now here is were everything went downhill. Our food was brought out but not by our server they gave me my app and meal at the same time and said that the food was for me. My sister never received any food. I looked at my App and thought wow this is really good and I started eating. My sister still didn’t receive any food no app no entree. The server came and ask was everything ok I told her my sister didn’t get any of her food. She looke at my App and said that is her food that I was eating. I ordered a Shrimp skillet and she ordered the shrimp and grits and us as our 1st time here because they were recommended from our father about how great they were never saw what the dishes looked like. Our server went back to the kitchen and came back and she confirmed I was given the wrong dish and our appetizer ticket never printed. So I asked if they were going to make her another dish she said no the kitchen can’t make another. So I ask how was she going to eat if the kitchen will not cook another dish. She looked at me like she was wanted to tell me to give the plate which I already started eating to her. So I told her I can’t give her food I already ate off of. She just said we can’t make another for her. So I told her again she needs to eat and not after me she needs a new plate. She says I will ask the kitchen. She then took the plate from me so I wouldn’t eat anymore I had to ask her to bring the plate back so I could get my fork. This has had to be the most unprofessional thing I have ever experience in a restaurant. She then tried to find some one to talk to and she came back to apologize for the service so my sister still has no food she ask for some soup. The server brings out our Apps which are extremely late. The server says the kitchen will make her food again. They asked who brought the food out and they said that that person was new and didn’t know all the dishes yet. We waited for her food to come. So I asked where was the manager and the server said you still want to talk to them? This really made me upset. Once the manager came over he just rushed talking to me and wouldn’t even let me finish telling what happen because he ran off and said I will check on your food and he will handle it. He didn’t care what was going on and I’m very disappointed at the service because the food and staff were wonderful. Then we wanted to pay and leave and ask if they took the shrimp and grits off the ticket and the server said no. Then I was just pissed because that’s crazy. She went to go ask about our bill and they only took 15% off of the shrimp and grits. Working in the hospitality field you should know how to take care of your guest better. This place was recommended and we drove from Richmond to get experience this place but I can say you have lost out on future positive recommendations and revenue. I’m very disappointed with the service.More

When visiting or near Portsmouth or Norfolk you may want to stop by for a tasty and filling meal. Pictures speaks volume. So I add a picture which shares my experience and enjoyment of this restaurant. When I went back the second time, I really...appreciated the host (male) kneeling beside me to give me direct eye contact and take my order. This was very different and so appealing. Yes to good food and excellent service.More

Our party of four could handle the slow service due to the large crowd and special night however when a simple pasta dish never came we had enough! As the appetizers and three meals were served and consumed our waitress assured us that the fourth...meal was forthcoming. Eventually we were ready to leave so we canceled the fourth meal. After the cancellation the meal appeared and we were welcome to it for a discount! No thank you. A three hour Valentine's experience will not be forgotten. That was our second and last visit.More

My partner and I were in Portsmouth looking for a place to eat. Someone had recommended a restaurant on High Street called Lobscousers or something like it. It was around 8pm and when we arrived, we looked inside and there were no other people in...the restaurant. We were a little disappointed, because we were looking for a livelier environment. We looked at other places on High Street and noticed a Sports Bar across the street. The place was huge inside. As you walk in, there is a busy bar on the right. Lots of room. TV's are plentiful. We decided to sit in the booth area. Nice BIG booths in a raised area 3 steps up from main floor. Great for people watching. I liked the exposed brick wall. Pick up a free local VEER newsletter on the way in for info on local events. Service was friendly. The menu is comprehensive and a nice upgrade from typical bar food fare. I ordered the grilled pork chops with mashed potatoes and gravy and collard greens. Chops were thin but tasty. They were smothered in sauteed onions. The gravy was good, seemed like corn starch was the thickener. The collards were perfect. The mashed potatoes were perfect. I think I tasted sour cream in them, but what I liked best was that the mashed potatoes were REAL. Not some awful reconstituted flake product with a yucky manufactured taste. I prefer a few lumps in my mashed potatoes.. it makes them a little more authentic to me. These were delicious. I forgot to talk about the appetizer. Chicken wings. They were perfect. I think I tasted a bit of Chinese Five Spice which has a slight cinnamon/nutmeg flavor. Just barely. Celery and carrots were included. Decent sized. So good that I really didnt need the blue cheese dressing to help prop up the flavor. Iced tea glass stayed full. Service was attentive. My partner ordered the "Hangover Hamburger". He said it tasted like it had been grilled on a charcoal grill, and was one of the best burgers he has eaten. The burger condiments looked fresh. The lettuce on it was better than most. Looked like Spring Mix rather than basic Iceberg. This area of Portsmouth on High Street features lots of shopping. Some interesting shops. I recommend this place. We will definately go back.More

Our monthly Cork Club of 40 people dined here on a Monday evening. We had a private room in the back. When we dine at a restaurant, we preselect from one of 4-5 entrée offerings. The restaurants occasionally provide a cheese and fruit bar or...other hors d’oerve, a salad, and the entrée. Some also include a dessert. At some locations, the dessert is extra. At this meal, my wife had a veggie pasta which she enjoyed. I had crab cakes with Cole slaw. They were ok. The dessert of vanilla ice cream and a sweet apple topping was delicious. Others had the chicken, sirloin steak or salmon offering. As usual, we had a great evening of dining, wine tasting and friendship.More

All three cocktails that were ordered, waitress had to come back to us and tell us an ingredient was missing for each of them ~ mint of the mojito; basil of the lemon basil martini and bitters for the old fashion. Placed our food orders...(hamburgers & tacos) which took more than an hour to make it to the table. I had ordered my burger medium but it arrived VERY charred. Couldn’t eat some of it. We were all quite disappointed.More
