I know there are 2 places on the island claiming to be the first balboa bars, and I've always come to dad's for mine. Such a great treat on a warm beach afternoon, hand dipped and coated in your choice topping. a must get when your on the island

After a short visit to the Balboa Island Museum and having read a little about Dad's, we headed towards ice cream goodness. We were standing in front of Dad's contemplating what we should get. They are famous for two things: frozen bananas and Balboa bars. My husband said to me, "what's a Balboa bar?" and a local woman walking past... More

We have been coming to the Island for 35 years - always buy Dads Balboa Bars. A favorite is milk chocolate rolled in toasted almonds. Their donuts and pastries are good too.

We had heard about the famous frozen bananas and Balboa bars here so we had to stop when visiting out daughter in Southern California. She had tried both before and said either were great options. We all had Balboa Bars dipped in chocolate with our choice of toppings and they were wonderful! Lots of nice baked goods and donuts in... More

Who's the original frozen banana on Marine Avenue? Who cares! Just get one... stat! We go to whichever one has the shortest line and the fewest teens. In this case it was Dad's. What could be better than a frozen banana, slathered in chocolate and covered in (our case) peanuts. A classic treat to enjoy any time of day, any... More

My friend spent her summer's as a child in Newport Beach. She would often get frozen bananas and wanted to introduce me to this delectable treat. There were 2 places near each other claiming to be the home of the "Original" frozen banana. We decided on Dad's and we were NOT SORRY! I had no idea that you could get... More

This is one of our favorite places. Nothing fancy but has a decent amount of dessert items. They also do breakfast. The Balboa Bars are what they are known for, but I love the bon bon cookies. There is another place just down the street selling a lot of the same desserts but don't bother. Dad's is better. There is... More

The Balboa bar with peanuts and Oreos is awesome! What a fun treat to get while on the island. The donuts, apple fritters and croissants in the morning are also really tasty. The only thing we didn't love is the frozen cheesecake with toppings. I would choose the Balboa bar over the cheesecake bar. If you're on the island, you... More

Just love the quaint & quirky buildings on Bilbao Island & dads is one of them. Delicious donuts & the infamous frozen bananas are a must to taste.
