So the "paah-tay" is like a meat pie or empanada. Not necessarily the first thing you would think of for breakfast but wellll worth it. The reviews are spot on. Perhaps the best breakfast on the island. It might not look like much from the outside but solid and delicious home cooking inside. Awesome!

We had read about Joan's Pates (pronounced "patties") on TripAdvisor and other forums and made the trek walking from where we were staying on White Bay, up and over the hill to Sugar and Spice on a Friday morning to try them out! We were greeted by Joan, all smiles, who let us know that during certain times of the... More

Do yourself a favor and stop in for breakfast. Ms Joan is so nice and she will whip you up some great pate. We also rented her son Kenroy's dinghy for a day. He was so cool and his little daughter made us a Christmas card. It was the cutest thing I have ever seen. These are genuine great people... More

We were hungry while we were waiting for our ferry to go back to st. John's. And there was sugar and spice on the side of the road. We walked in and Joan greeted with a big smile saying "you ready for breakfast" "I have the best Pate' ". ( it's like an empanada) She's not lying...Yes she does!! It... More

We learned about this place from Kenroy over at Corsairs. His mom owns Sugar and Spice. As we we're getting ready to set sail for Cane Garden Bay, we dinged over and Joan made us Chicken Rotis for the road. They were fantastic!

Love love love! For our second meal of the trip at Sugar and Spice we brought our own fish. We had caught a couple kingfish on a morning fishing trip with fisherman Dave, the owner Joan's nephew. Dave cleaned and cut up our catch, delivered it to his aunt Joan who made us the best meal we had in the... More

We love to stop by and have a breakfast sandwich and coffee (or Pate!) on our last morning in port - reasonable value and fun service.

The best patties ever...and delivery to your boat! The dough is light, buttery and flaky-wrapped around mouth watering filling of veggies, chicken or beef (our Favorite!) Do Not Miss This Gem!!

We checked out of Sandcastle/Soggy Dollar early to continue our trip on St. John and after being dropped off by Greg (Perfect Pineapple owner/taxi), I needed something for breakfast. Joan was all smiles and asked me what i was in the mood for: "You look like you want egg sandwich with turkey and cheese." I nodded and she made me... More

We visited Jost on a sailboat this November and stopped at Sugar and Spice for Joan's delicious Chicken Roti - best I've ever had. She is a lovely host and offers a full menu of breakfast/lunch/dinner. Her son was also very thoughtful and went out of his way to help us when we lost our boat hook. Don't miss a... More
