We just returned from the most lovely couple of hours at The Castle. We were warmly greeted and quickly served a brilliantly made Bloody Mary. Then I had the goats cheese & squash tart with a walnut salad. Absolutely delicious. I need to eat it...again soon! Then 3 of us had the roast beef. Again, so, so good. It’s not easy to do a good roast potato out of the home but these were the best I’ve had in a restaurant. Beef cut like butter, unctuous cauliflower cheese, greens, red cabbage, sweet roasted carrot, parsnip and giant crispy yorkshire with gravy. Really, really good. Couldn’t finish it but wish I had been able to! My middle daughter is a vegan and happily had many great choices. I also really appreciated that they showed a real interest in her feedback re their vegan menu coming up in Jan. Everything was great basically and all 5 of us enjoyed every second and every morsel. Can’t wait to go back.More

On the 22nd of October booked the Castle for an after funeral event. Paid £250 deposit and later same day realised that with the parking restrictions and the elderly people attending my father’s funeral, it would be best to change venues. Cancelled the booking on...the website, spoke twice to the pub and assured payment would be reimbursed. Funeral was today - 8 days later and still no reimbursement.More

I love this pub! Harrow doesn’t have many good pubs but this is one of the best. Great food at reasonable prices and some lovely Fullers beer. There is a small garden with great views but you need to climb some steps up. The inside...of the pub has several small rooms, all with character.More

This is the nearest pub to my office - there are 21 of us here - and we often have company events here, also going there for the quizzes occasionally. A friend was visiting from out of town and I said we would go to...The Castle because they have good, tasty food and know how to look after their customers. Sadly, on today's showing, this is no longer the case. We arrived, bought and paid for our drinks and then sat down to study the menu. Back to the bar and my friend said, "can you please just do me a cheese and cucumber sandwich?" The young man behind the bar said yes and turned to me. I said, "which would you recommend, the fish and chips of the linguine?" He thought for a second and then said, "definitely the fish and chips." I said, "OK, I'll have that, but no tartare sauce and, if possible, regular peas rather than crushed ones." He asked me to repeat it, which I did, wrote it down and we returned to the table. About 10 minutes later he came into the dining room and said, "we are unable to make a cheese sandwich." When we asked why, he said, "the chef is refusing to make it because it is not on the menu"! We challenged this and, as he was digging his heels in, I pointed out that I am a regular customer from a local business and I cannot believe or accept that they are unable to make a simple sandwich. He said, "oh yeah, which business is that then?" Nice one; now you are suggesting the customer is a liar... No movement, so we asked to see the manager. He arrived and, at our invitation, sat down at the table. We told him what had happened and he said, "what do you mean by a sandwich?" We replied; bread, butter, cheese, cucumber." Apparently determined to be as unhelpful as possible, he said, "we have more than one type of cheese." "Ok, tell us and we'll choose." "We have 3 types of bread." "Ok, tell us and we'll choose." He then said (again) , "what do you mean by a sandwich?" We replied; bread, butter, cheese, cucumber." He still seemed determined to everything to avoid helping the customers (that's the people who pay his wages), so we again said that we can't understand why any chef would refuse to make a cheese sandwich (although I would describe anyone giving such a refusal as a downmarket cook; certainly not a chef). He said, "I don't believe the chef has been told what you have asked for." My reply: "so was the guy who took the order lying when he said the chef is refusing to make the sandwich we are asking for?" No reply. He then said (again) , "what do you mean by a sandwich?" We replied; bread, butter, cheese, cucumber." I said, right, we are off to eat somewhere else." He giggled and said, "you don't want to do that." "Actually, yes we do, because you won't give us the food we are asking for." He then said (again) , "what do you mean by a sandwich?" I said, "how many times are you going to keep asking the same question? Please tell us now if you are able to give us the food we are asking for." He said yes and walked away. A couple of minutes later he came back and asked me if I had ordered the smoked fish or the fish and chips. I said, again, "fish and chips, but no tartare sauce and, if possible, regular peas rather than crushed ones." The food arrived, delivered by the person who originally took the order. A perfectly serviceable cheese and cucumber sandwich and fish and chips with a nice dish of tartare sauce. I said, "I specified no tartare sauce" and removed it from the dish. He picked it up and walked away. Of course he didn't bother to apologise. The Castle is no longer on my list of places to visit, whether with friends or my fellow workers. Horrific.More

Had a lovely drink in this Olde Worlde pub recently, so nice there that we returned in the evening for a meal. The place was packed out but they managed to find us a table. We shared a Starter of Chicory, Walnut and Blue Cheese...salad, delicious. Followed this up with Yassa Pork Rib and sweet potato fries for him and Smoked Haddock for me. Both meals were very good. After this we shared a Cheeseboard with three different types of cheese and crackers/bread. Also delicious. The Staff were courteous and attentive throughout our meal and nothing was too much trouble. Would return if in the area.More

We came last night to the Castle for a Friends birthday .Have to say very disappointed with the Food and Service.3 of us had Scallops which we all only got 3 scallops each for £12.00 and very watery scallops .3 of us had the Duck...I requested mine to me medium Which it was but the other 2 wanted it Rear which is wasn’t .As for the Dauphinoise Potatoes they were Not no cream etc and we noticed the Head Chef had a French name well you let yourself down on your Potatoes. We could see your had large parties in the other room that was no excuse to forget us .The woman at the other table had to try and find the waiting staff .They were not impressed either .What annoyed me when the Male waiter came he just plumped the dishes on Table .I did say why don’t you ask who is Having What it only take 10 seconds .He put dishes in front of the party that was not there dish .We came for a Friends Birthday and we had got all our Main Courses and she told us to start eating, then couple of minutes later they inform her the Kitchen had forgotten her Order. So she had to wait and got her Dinner when we had nearly finished our Dinner .So I’m Sorry to say The Castle Let us down big time and we all paid£50.00 each and Certainly not worth the Money .You certainly could not cope with Large parties as you got one of your waitress to come and apologise to the next table for the Long Delay in getting There Meals .More

As we live in Harrow, we visit The Castle occasionally. We chose to have lunch there on Saturday 1st June as it was a lovely sunny day. We ate in the beer garden and had a fabulous lunch - particularly the Tea & hop smoked...haddock with bubble & squeak, poached egg, Hollandaise. We shared a nice chilled bottle of Pinot Grigio. Although The Castle is not the cheapest place to eat and drink, it's a lovely setting with really good food and great service.More

The building is historical and charmingly decorated. I had a table next to the fireplace , the Sunday menu was extensive with the usual roasts and other mains . I ordered the pub classic fish and chips. The fish was well cooked. The beavertown ipa...tasted good as well. Service was fine. Just needed to place the order and pay at the counter.More
