We have been here a few times and always had a good time but it may be under new management and this experience was not so good. It started as soon as we arrived, two of us didn’t have face masks so were unsure whether...to go home and get them or just go home. Whilst we were discussing, we were met at the door by a member of staff who quite abruptly asked what the problem was, we explained the situation and were simply told that staff had to wear masks so we did as well. No issue with that the rules are the rules but it could have been handled more politely. We were then offered masks and went in. We then enquired if the pub was under new management as the lady we were used to seeing wasn’t there and were met with “what’s the problem? Clearly there’s a problem or you wouldn’t ask so what is it? She’s not here tonight and were better off when she’s not” Again it was abrupt and said in such a manner as to come across almost hostile and for no reason. There was another customer (not with our party) who was perhaps a bit drunk and trying to open a locked door, he was told to f*** off and called a c*** by a member of staff who later told us that she wasn’t even working that night!! At two minutes to ten (pub closing at ten for Covid rules) one of our friends went in to use the toilet and when he came back out to the balcony where we had been sat to finish the last of his drink it was snatched from him. He asked to finish it and was told no and that staff had the power to confiscate drinks and we were to leave immediately. I fully understand that these are unprecedented times but a little patience and understanding would go so much further than just taking half full glasses. Had she explained herself better it wouldn’t have been a problem and he’d have just left the drink but to have it snatched away was over the top. She then swore agin as she walked away from us. Sadly not very professional and I won’t rush back, which is a shame as we’d had many a good night in there before.More

Thank you for taking the time to bring this to my attention. It is very concerning to hear that on this occasion the service provided was not to our usual standard. In investigating the situation I have spoken to the team on duty that night....More

We regularly order their Cod & Chips & they have always been nicely cooked & beautifully flavoured. Very generous portions fried in Healthy Oil. Never disappointed. Johnney

Booked a lunchtime table for 5. Elderly MIL who couldn’t manage stairs which meant we ate downstairs near the garden entrance which was fine. Nice, friendly staff. Very limited menu, food very average. Fish batter was overcooked and inedible. We’ve eaten here before and had...a lovely meal, but sadly not today. ☹️ pub was empty tbh, so there really isn’t any excuse for such poor offerings.More

Absolutely well run considering this difficult time. Signage well put out. Easy and enjoyable to have a good catch up with friends. Well done to the staff working so hard under these weird times. Always polite and smiling.

Booked a table for a small group of us - spacious with a nice view and a friendly greeting on arrival. Dog friendly 😊 Good selection of drinks and food - nice veggie stuff too. Reasonable prices. Will be back.

I visited around halfway through a canal walk from Hayes & Harlington to Paddington. The pub is at an excellent location with a garden and balcony overlooking the canal. I had the sausage and mash and it was excellent, as was the Fuller's beer. The...person I was walking with also said their food was excellent.More

Having searched trip advisor for a place for a good Sunday lunch we decided to try The Black Horse. It didn't disappoint and is worthy a 5 star rating. Probably one of the best sunday roasts we've had in a long time. The staff were...amazing...really accommodating. Proper home made yorkshire puds and fresh veggies. Beef was delicious. Worth a visit.More

We all thoroughly enjoyed our Christmas party. Food selected from the special Christmas Dining menu. The Christmas Dinner was excellent - as were the starters and puddings - well done chef!!. Great selection of wines. Service and ALL staff were attentive and "on the ball"...- live band and a great atmosphere. The table was decorated to a very high standard, with a “surprise” fun Christmas gift box for every guest. We couldn’t fault it. Thank you to Hayley and your fab team.More
