Best Italian Sub in Hampton Roads!!!! Friendly service, food made fresh to order, and good lunch atmosphere. Been 3 times in 2019 and looking forward to many more visits going forward. Five stars!!!

Great for vegetarians or meat eaters. My sub was the best vegetarian sandwich I've ever had. The owners are wonderful!

Great sub shop with hole in the wall/homey feel. Great subs, sides and options to pick from. Definitely will become a regular stop for eating out.

Lived here for 9 yrs and never knew this place was here. Stopped for lunch and it was awesome. Best sandwhich shop in Hampton roads as far as I am concerned.
Very large and over stuffed subs. Some great options with meats like brisket on the menu.
Also have some more traditional sandwhich fare. Beats the hell out of any of the chains. Great hot sauce selection too.

While on vacation, went to Sam's due to all the great reviews. Two of us had the meatball subs and they were great. Great atmosphere. You can dine inside or outside at picnic tables. I would return if I am ever in this area again.

Sam's is just one of those great finds. The kind that you just stubble on to. You could blink and miss it! When you find it, you will come back time and time again. A Mom and Pop restaurant that makes plain and simple great subs. I am partial to the black ad blue brisket. Portions are large- I tell myself every time I go not to eat the whole sub but once I begin I just can’t stop! While I’m complaining to myself on the way back to work at how stuffed I am, I realize, i’ll probably not be able to stop myself next time either!

It says Texas in the name so perhaps you expect a saddle as a chair option, country music as background and constant Fox News.
This small sub shop is next to a large pizza enterprise Cogans North and across from several eateries. It has outside and inside dining.
I had a half chicken sub called the Southwest. It came on a small toasted roll with chipotle sauce and the meal included a medium drink and choice of sides. I chose pasta salad.
The service was friendly. The food was okay, really no complaints and the chicken was cubed breast meat. The chipotle sauce was mild and pleasant.
Despite not having been overly impressed, it was nice to have a local variant on the chain sub shops. I wish them well and perhaps those who appreciate brisket will have louder applause.
It does not appear to have off street parking. But it does have 4 or 5 outside tables with umbrellas and nice colorful flowers.

Lunch with the guys from work. We all got subs, several of us had the special of the day, the Three Amigos combo. The sub was great, though I should have asked for a half instead of the full 12-inch sub. Got mine with sea salt and vinegar chips.
One of the guys had a problem with his order, the small bowl of chili that he asked for didn't make it onto the ticket. Great staff work here resolved the issue in his favor and goes a long way toward making all of us repeat customers.
It was a great day to sit outside with our sandwiches, so if the weather is good, consider the tables outside.

Besides being within walking distance from my home, the subs on the menu are varied and include hot and cold subs. The sides, potato salad and coleslaw are good as well. Although I usually have iced tea, there is a nice selection of craft beers to enjoy with your sub

Is it cheating to give a rave review if you live within walking distance to the shop you are reviewing and the owners let you bring your dog and then provide your pet with a saucer of meatballs?! No! The couple that owns this place consistently provides a personable and delicious experience. Not only are the subs fantastic, but the owners make you feel welcome and part of the biz. We have not had a bad sandwich here, and the potato salad should be your side....it is a special treat.

Driving down Colley and stopped in to try some new food. Small establishment but they feed you well. If your not looking you will drive right by. Their subs are awesome and I enjoyed my meal.

A co-worker took me to Sam's a few months back, now my wife and I are regulars. A local, family owned business, with amazing service and awesome food! My favorite is the Four Horseman! Parking can be tricky, but well worth any hassle you might have. Sit outside on the patio and enjoy! You won't be disappointed by lunch or dinner at Sam's.

To avoid the DC traffic while heading home to Chapel Hill from NYC we drove down the DelMarVa peninsula to take the Chesapeake Bay Bridge & Tunnel to Norfolk. The drive was relaxed, slower, and rewarding because Tripadvisor reviews provided us the incentive to add a waypoint for Sam's for food and beverage to sustain us for the remaining drive. Joe did not disappoint - my brisket BBQ and coleslaw and cold longneck were delicious. The warm welcome and service made certain we saved that waypoint. We will return, happy to have found reason to visit Norfolk. Thanks Joe.

Sam's is consistently good! Homemade soups and sandwiches that are delicious. Good people who own and run the restaurant. Hope the new large restaurant right next door does not overpower this excellent little place!

Great local place!! We'd never heard of it, but we were looking for something different and saw the great reviews. Thanks folks - you were spot on!! It's a small place, very clean, and obviously a local favorite. The walls are decorated with pictures of people wearing Sam's t-shirts in a variety of locales. The staff is very friendly and helpful - they obviously love what they do and love to serve customers.
Perhaps my only complaint (not really!) is that there are so many great choices that it's hard to choose one! I went with some of the reviewers and got the Black & Blue sub, it was terrific! The brisket was tender, juicy, and flavorful, and the blue cheese gave it a perfect little bite. The macaroni salad (owner's mother's recipe) was a perfect accompaniment. My wife had the BLT and thought it was very good as well. The desserts looked great, but unfortunately we were too full to try them. We will definitely be back to try some of their other great looking offerings, and maybe we'll plan ahead to save from for dessert!
