I took advantage of an entertainment book coupon for this restaurant, and given the fact that my girlfriend's background includes Hungarian, this was perfect! The menu choices are all encompassing and we decided on two different steak dishes. They were prepared and presented perfectly, tasted absolutely delicious, and were served on piping hot plates, so no chance of food getting... More

We had dinner last night in this quaint European restaurant on Granby Street in Norfolk The wait staff were extremely friendly and appropriately attentive. The bread and cheese plate is great, the leak and potato soup warming on a cold night I had the roast goose with the chef Adolph's brilliant fine textured sauerkraut. It was absolutely delicious. My companion... More

This place is small but it's so elegant that you will want to go here for special occasions. It's a short walk from the Wells Theatre or MacArthur Mall so it's perfect before or after the play. We started with the complementary appetizer, which was two different kinds of cheese, freshly made bread, and an apple. Then we had the... More

My husband and I visited Monastery on a Sunday evening. It wasn't too crowded but reservations are highly recommended. We ordered the Venison Sauerbraten which was one of the chef's special and the stuffed cabbage. Both were excellent but the Venison was the best I've ever had. The waitress was very polite and accomodating. We will definetly return soon.

Simple fare quality ingredients well prepared. The cheese spread served with warm bread is a nice touch.

Enjoyed a very nice dinner with my wife and sister. Waitress was great, cordial, new the menu inside and out and her recommendations were truly appreciated and right on. Excellent assortment of Eastern European meat dishes I had a schnitzel al Holstein (great sauce with capers and an egg on top!) . My wife, a pork dish which she also... More

Had a perfectly lovely lunch here. Food was very good and staff was attentive but not overly so. Would be a great place for a a small event or private party.

An unadvertised gem of downtown dining. Pan-European menu with consistent quality. Excellent veal dishes and complex flavors. You cannot go wrong with any menu choice.

I was there with a group on a bus tour. When we arrived they were ready and waiting to serve us. The service was wonderful and so was the food. The bread and cheese tray was the best!!!! Everyone had wonderful food that was freshly prepared for us and some yummy desserts. I had the angel hair pasta in a... More

Found this place though the advice of a coworker. Having lived in Hampton Roads for 13 years (1991-1995, 2005-2013) I had never heard of this place. Boy did I miss out!! If you want genuine Central Europe cuisine, this is the place. German, Hungarian, Czeck, Slovak, and Serbian food at its homemade best. Everything is made from scratch and is... More
