Great service! Great food! Shorter wait than we were told when we checked in with the hostess. Food was great and a good value. AC had trouble keeping up but great experience otherwise.

What a fantastic find! We went to a restaurant down the street on a Sunday night and were told there was a 45 minute wait. We looked for the closest restaurant with good reviews that would have something the kid would eat. Captain Groovy’s was...a short drive away. It was a little warm inside (the ac was probably struggling with it being 95 outside) but the food was AMAZING. My husband had the Cuban and loved it. I had the grouper special which was perfectly cooked and paired perfectly with corn and Lima bean hash (it should definitely be added to the menu permanently). Drinks, service, and dessert were also excellent. We’ll come back every chance we get.More
My wife, kids, mom, brother and I all had a wonderful experience at Captain Groovy’s. The place has a fun, casual atmosphere and something on the menu for everyone. The place was packed, but they got us seated quickly and our server was very pleasant...and attentive. I had the special, grouper over mashed potatoes, but with an Asian twist—it was outstanding! They also had half price bottles of wine, so we couldn’t pass that up. Reasonable prices and sizable portions. I would highly recommend Captain Groovy’s for families, couples, or friends—it’s a fun, lively spot!More
Absolutely excellent wonderful Crabcakes and delicious She crab soup friendly weight staff and a fun outside patio. Great night out perfect for a group of friends or the entire family.
We stopped at Capt. Groovy's because they had posted Happy Hour drinks. We had no intention of ordering dinner. Well. Chrissy our waitress was a fireball and wonderful. Before heading home from our vacation in the Outer Banks we wanted something special for dinner. We...were tired of the same old same old at Nags Head. The mussels we had as a appetizer was a wonderful start. At Chrissy's recommendation we ordered Seafood Creole and the dinner special Seafood Crepes. Wow. Both were full of flavor and delicious. And don't forget to finish the meal with bread pudding topped with bourbon sauce. :)More
Great atmosphere, attentive staff and most of all great food! Recommend to anyone wanting some greatness in their life!! Yum!!
The food was good to great depending on what we ordered. The service was not consistent. I order Nachos with Jalapenos on the side, I was served Nachos with Chicken and Jalapenos mixed in...things with server were not coming out very well...not sure what happened....Tuna Burrito looked and tasted different -- seemed to come with less...compared my new and old meals of this entrée and saw the difference (not good). Hope management will fix and improve this grea seafood restaurant...More
We stopped here on our way out of town from the airport. It was very busy (seemed to be a lot of local folks) but the service was good. Covid precautions were very limited. We had the she crab soup and bucket of clams. Both...were delicious, and let me tell you, the clams were nothing like we expected (we;re midwesterners!)--steamed on the shell, drenched in delicious butter and other things. This restaurant was such a good intro to the Eastern Shore!More
We ate there for lunch and the food was delicious. I had a mahi mahi sandwich with a corn potato salad. My husband ordered a hamburger and son ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. The fries were fresh cut and just cooked. The service was good...and the food was reasonably priced. It’s a cute restaurant from outside. We ate outside.More
I recommend this restaurant for lunch. It was a 90 degree day and it was still pretty hot in the restaurant. I had an asian fried chicken sandwich and it was really good along with the fries. I took half of it home. My friend...had some tacos that looked tasty as well. I'll be trying this place for dinner when I'm in the area.More
Great food and good beer selection. The Moscow mule had a little too much lime flavor. The Baja fish tacos were excellent, the crab cakes were good as was the pasta in vodka cream sauce. I would skip the lobster salad as it was not...very flavorful. Very good service and if we were in the area we would return.More
Seemed like a locals' place. Friendly bartender. Good food and reasonable prices in a relaxed atmosphere. Worth a visit.
We were greeted nicely, our waitress was attentive and very nice! The lighting was great (big deal to me) and good music playing. House drink menu was versatile and yummy, I had the Pain Killer (recommended)! The oysters are fabulous and they have a great...happy hour! Being a local, this is the best! Amazing she-crab and reasonably priced. I had the crab cake dinner. the cakes were all crab and seasoned wonderfully. Hubby had the tuna burger, he loved! We had 12 Oysters, a cup of she-crab, crab cake dinner, a specialty drink, unlimited diet coke, a tuna burger all for $75, great deal! Enough that we have leftovers for a couple more meals. I highly recommend, Thanks Captain Groovy's for a great experience! Please go if in the area!More
Thanks for the great review. Check out our Sunday Brunch 11pm-3pm
We’re in town for work hit captain groovy for late lunch. The special was meatloaf and may have been the best I’ve ever had at a restaurant
Thank you. Executive Chef's special Jack Daniels gravy makes it a hit!
This was my first visit to Captain Groovy's but they'd been recommended to me by a great radiology tech at the Hampton Veterans Center. I had to go to Sherwin Williams and this was only one block away on Shore Drive in Norfolk. No outdoor...seating but the social distancing was great. Actually the seating in the front is a bit like a covered porch totally indoors. I hadn't eaten all day and I was getting weak so I went there alone. I ordered the fried oyster basket as my appetizer and the thinly sliced rib eye with cheese and carmelized onions as my entree. They also had $5 margaritas. It took a while before anyone noticed that I was there so that I could be seated. Jaden came along and seated me. I also had the pleasure of meeting a server named Desiree that made me feel right at home...she's outstanding! My server Carla was busy but nice...Desiree and Jaden were there when I'd need anything at all. I was seated right next to the kitchen which has an open window to see all the cooks in action. I can hardly wait to return and I'd recommend them to anyone. I thought the portions were small for the prices but the food and service were very good!More
