We did not reserve a table for lunch and were lucky - got a beautifully placed table with a view directly to the sea. We got a pitcher of white sangria, which tasted really good. It was a little more expensive than other places (19 euros), but perfectly OK with the taste and great views of the beach and sea. We ordered burgers, but forgot to tell we would like them cooked medium-rare. We were not asked either. The burgers were absolutely welldone. We were sorry that we did not pay attention, but would not complain, as the kitchen can not guess at the guests' wishes. Good idea if the (otherwise very attentive) servants remembered to ask. The french fries were good and the accompanying coleslaw tasted really good. The accompanying accessories, for example mayonnaise and ketchup, were exactly the original brands (Heinz and Helmanns) we like and the packaging was clean. Lovely coffee. We'll be back.

Brought 3 golfing pals for lunch (they requested beach-side dining) and had a wonderful time at BJ’s. So much so they insisted on returning the following day. Lovely table both days directly overlooking the beach and terrific service from the whole team.
Bex & Jay own and run the place and lead their team with such energy, skill and panache. Over the two lunches, we each sampled the turbot which was sensationally good. Clams, sole, goats cheese salad, Thai green curry squid..... all very good. The couverts are delicious and the quails eggs with celery salt are truly divine. The eclectic wine list is compact and features wines from the new world; when a particular white wine ran out yesterday, we were presented with 3 alternatives to sample before choosing an excellent rose. What a brilliant touch.

BJs has been a favourite of ours at lunchtime for 10 years. We avoid the music days when it can be rowdy and a bit chaotic. The food at lunch has always been good but not spectacular.
They have just opened for Breakfast and I can honestly say that it was the best all round breakfast experience I have had ever. I had Eggs Florentine and friends had the avocado eggs - both spot on and beautifully presented.
The setting is just so beautiful and paired with a fantastic (healthy) menu and the best service in the Algarve it al combined to be a brilliant start to the day.
Well done to Bex, J and all the staff!

Trips to Portugal over the past 15-years have always involved visits to, what we call, Spot Beach. We had coffee at BJ’s and heard about their music sessions. Booking for Saturday night, I specifically asked about seating in the area with the music stage and was told that no allocation of seating was made until the day as table sizes varied according to the parties booking and variable table layout. On arrival for our meal, we were seated in a area remote from the music and almost the furthest away from the stage possible. We had planned to make it a full evening and enjoy the 3-hr music, but we felt totally isolated from the performance and it was just like being in a restaurant with ‘Musac’. Whilst the food was good it was, in my opinion, significantly overpriced - barely able to taste the garlic in my prawn starter. When we paid the bill we spoke about the seating and were told that bookings are made months in advance to ensure seating on the stage area. I can only assume we were purposefully misled so that we made the booking. Very unlikely to ever return

Sorry that you felt that BJS was not up to scratch.
We definitely don't ever mislead people deliberately and it is a bit malicious to suggest as much. We are in the business of trying to make people happy and that is our sole aim. I am sorry that we couldn't achieve our aim in your case.
For reference of other readers please do let us know where you want to sit and then we can manage expectations and allocate the table you want where possible.

BJs was recommended to us, and despite booking a table in advance we were initially sat outside the kitchen, and then at second table with one of the seats facing the wall and toilet queue. Hardly the Oceanside experience we were looking forward to - clearly the outside tables were for favoured guests as many stayed empty for the duration of our short stay. After the initial sitting, Waiting staff basically ignored us once the order was taken, and despite a promise of an 'upgrade' to an outside table as soon as one was available, this was far from forthcoming. Food was ok, the fish better than the other options, but difficult to enjoy when you're sat in a constant stream of waiting staff heading outside to the favoured tables. We ended up taking our remaining drinks outside in plastic cups - and got more attention from the staff than when sat in the restaurant! Be warned, if you book, specify which deck you want to be on, as a reservation doesn't get what you'd expect.

I am so sorry that you didn't enjoy your experience with us today. We try our absolute hardest to ensure that all of our clients have a good time.
We arrange the bookings in the order that they were booked and as you were the 3rd last booking in the diary the table was assigned in that order. As you allude to, you did not specify a table or specific deck when making the booking. If you had done that then I would have been able to tell you that we only had a few tables available and that they were on our inside terrace.
I promise there are no favoured clients and I am really sorry if you felt this way. As you will have noticed it was extremely busy and again I am very sorry if this affected the level of service. You were only in the restaurant for 40 minutes and so the fact that some tables were empty during your stay doesn't not mean that they were not booked later in the afternoon. It has been a very long summer, in trying circumstances and clearly it has taken its toll on the team and that has been reflected in the service today - again I am very sorry.
I hope we can welcome you again soon and show you the real BJS experience.
For other prospective clients it is essential to book in advance and if you have a table preference then please do let us know so that we can save the table where possible or set expectations of what we have available.

Excellent Turbot & robalos (sea bass) on Monday accompanied by a superb Soalheiro White, followed by BJ’s chocolate brownies and Expresso martini affrogato. As usual the service from Ricardo and Aaron makes you feel like a good friend returning home - and the sun was shining.
It was so good we were back again today. This time we had fresh sole, again accompanied by yet another superb Solheiro, followed by the best chocolate brownies to be found in the Algarve and a perfectly shaken expresso martini Served by Andrea. Great friendly service from Aaron & Andrea and we also got to meet Bex’s 5 month old Dachshund.
I’ve already booked up two further dates in July as BJ’s is a ‘must visit’ whenever I’m in Quinta do Lago.

We chose BJs for the first day that restaurants reopened - 18th May. The atmosphere was a bit different because the tables were so widely spaced but that's not the fault of anyone and it's just the way it has to be for a while. Everything else was just what we love about this place; friendly, very efficient service, good food and the fantastic view (we were at the front by the boat which is the best spot). Highly recommended.

Perfectly grilled fish with salad and chips all served in a beachside location.
The staff are a little too interested in who's who and who has the biggest watch or most expensive handbag.
Had to ask 4 different staff for a spoon .. shame really.

We were invited to a birthday party at BJs and were told it would be a good laugh. We thought our taxi was lost on the way there as it is situated down a long winding dirt track.
First appearances were a bit underwhelming as we were dropped by the entrance next to the bathrooms but it really does take your breath away when you get out onto the terrace.
It is literally on the beach and the views are stunning.
As a party of over 25 we were split into 2 tables but service was so attentive and we had drinks within minutes of sitting down.
The squid starter was delicious (if a bit heavy on garlic) and then the turbot was cooked to perfection
The band came on at about 3pm and the place just went crazy an atmosphere that you just can't imagine. I have really never had so much fun and even though I lost my sunglasses it was a day I will never forget!

BJ’s is a wonderful beach bar and restaurant, if you got any closer to the beach you would be in the water. Very welcoming to all clientele, children are well catered for and dogs are welcome and receive a bucket of water straight away.
The staff worked hard during the winter and serving breakfast was a stroke of pure genius. Now one of my favourite places to visit.
Food has always been delicious and possibly the best porridge on the planet (after mine of course).

Not usually one to leave bad reviews. Nor was the experience of ‘the restaurant’ terrible as we didn’t make it that far.
After a stroll along the seafront from Vilamoura Marina we arrived at BJs. Having read reviews on trip advisor we decided to enquire as to a table for 2. The restaurant was reasonably quiet. The young girl (English) looked my wife and I up and down pretended to look for a table (we watched her) and came back and said sorry full. The lack of table is not my issue. The way we were treated was. If you have a ‘clientele’ you wish in the restaurant, please be a little more subtle. We have eaten in some of the nicest restaurants around Europe, including Michelin starred establishments and have never been treated this way, I’m sorry my sliders suggest I don’t have the wealth to be seen in BJs!

I am sorry that you felt this way. I am afraid that this is just a case of a misunderstanding, as we were fully booked for lunch.
I am not sure why you thought that she was 'pretending' to look as to whether there was a table? What she was actually doing was looking to see if she could squeeze you onto a table that was coming a bit later. I can't explain the looking you up and down but I suppose maybe she fancied you?
I find it very strange that instead of mentioning this at the time you think it helpful to sign up to TA (this is your only review) and slate us? That really is very sad and vindictive and again, if you are that kind of person I think we dodged a bullet by not letting you in.
We couldn't care less whether you like Macdoanlds or Michelin star restaurants. Personally I hate Michelin star restaurants and think that they are full of pretentious pricks eating poncy food, which is the antithesis of the environment we try to create at BJs.
We are actually incredibly humble people and have no desire for any one type of client - we treat billionaires and paupers exactly the same.
Sliders are definitely not my style but if you like them, then that is fine by me and I wouldn't think any worse of you for wearing them.
For the sake of any potential clients reading this, it is essential to book at this time of year as it is extremely busy.

We arrived at 4.00 on a chilly, windy day. It had been sunny and both outside terraces were packed but they immediately found us a table inside and got us some drinks.
The charcoaled fish (sea bass and dourada) was beautifully presented, very simply cooked but tasted incredible.
Live music was playing and the whole experience was brilliant - make sure you pay them a visit. We’ll be back soon!

Lovely setting lovely staff. Called in this morning had breakfast here. Great location right on the beach. Food was great. My wife had the smoked salmon and scrambled egg on rye bread and I had the bacon roll. Both superb! Nice coffee and mince pies!! Lovely and pleasant staff and nice to have a chat with the owner. Definitely be back in the new year for a lunch. Wishing you all the best for 2021.

Unreal! Everything about this restaurant is incredible. The staff, the food, the setting and the live music has swiftly made this one of our new favourite spots. The fresh seafood was absolutely delicious and I can’t wait to come back. The staff were so kind and attentive which made the experience even better and the live music on a Sunday made for such a special evening.

Been coming for years and it just keeps getting better!!
BJs is one of our favourite Algarve staple restaurants and we were delighted to be back this summer again. We love a sunday for the music and the atmosphere but any day is good. The thing that sets BJs apart is the superb high quality of the food and service which accompanies the fabulous atmosphere (other beach restaurants please take note…). The staff are wonderful, caring and flexible (even when you mess up on your booking time - sorry again J…) going out of their way to give everyone a great experience. Working in the industry it is self evident why BJs is such a success.
One thing - we have always loved the food at BJs and found it very competitively priced. This year however we felt the chef had stepped his game up and it was a truly wonderful meal. The Algarvian soup is the best we have had and the grilled tuna was such fabulous quality and perfectly cooked.
Thanks again to all the team at BJs. There’s a reason we just keep on coming back! Sally and family.
