Hayashi Sushi & Grill

We started Hayashi about 15 years ago, with the idea of a quality Hibachi and Sushi Restaurant. We are proud of our staff and chefs for all they put in to making each visit enjoyable and all our dishes tastefully prepared. When we opened our Newport News restaurant in City Center it was to continue in the tradition of a Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar with a nod to the updated look you might find in an upscale metropolitan restaurant.

We had a nice family dinner while in town visiting family while seeking a hibachi dinner. This location met all our needs. The service was good. Chef was friendly and engaging. The food met our expectations. It’s located in a little shopping area. We walked...around and stopped for ice cream after dinner. Nice family outing.More

My best friends sister suggested that we get take for lunch last week and I am all about support local business during these uncertain times, so I meet her at Hayashi Sushi & grill. The staff was extremely nice and welcoming. I order the lunch...chicken hibachi, and she ordered a fried sushi roll and a Katsu lunch bowl. We both really liked what we ordered and decided that we want to go back when the restaurants reopen so we are able to get the full dining experience. I know it isn't easy for business to sustain right now and wanted to give them a shout out. #ThankYouSmallBusiness--More

On a busy Saturday evening, we had a wonderful Grill experience with our Family, to include Grandchildren! While the grills are fun & provide great entertainment, the food was also excellent. Particularly well prepared was the Shrimp and Filet Mignon (cooked perfectly with all the...other dishes)! Their Filet pricing is better than ANY fine-dining restaurant on the Peninsula AND just as high quality - great value. BUT, make sure you try the Sushi too! Traditional appetizers like the Dynamite and shrimp were terrific, but any nigiri (i.e. salmon or tuna) is fresh and as good as any we've had traveling the country!! Compliments to Chef Lenny! We will be back soon!More

Do not go here or get take out. I asked for no squash in vegetable tempura lunch and there were 4 pieces out of 6 pieces of vegetables. I substituted vegetables for the shrimp tempura and they still charged me the $13 but only gave...me 6 pieces of vegetables and they were wrong. When I returned it the manager was smug and could care less. They dk not care about their customersMore

Showed up on a Tuesday afternoon. There s two hibachi tables with people on it, out of all of them. Restaurant overall dead compared to other times we have arrived. Hostess looks at me and my family and says oh we cant sit you til...about 730, it was 635. So i asked oh, how come? She said they only had two chefs. Said ok. Put me on there please just in case hubby decides we want to wait. (Its my birthday and I wanted Hayashi as we do every year). Hubby comes back and says lets go elsewhere since we have our toddler and kids with us. So I go let them know we will go elsewhere. A different hostess, gives me a look when I tell her we would like to remove the name from waitlist since we would be going elsewhere. She rudely say OK. Whats your name? Gave her the name. And i asked if maybe they were short staffed today? And she scoffs and says uh no sometimes we have 3 chefs but if you want to be seated you gotta make reservations. To which I asked if that was now the norm and she scoffed smirked and said uh yea, always has been. To which I replied this was not the case in previous times we had been there. So after she rolled her eyes yet again. I said thank you and walked out with my family. Needless to say If you feel like being treated with disrespect, on your birthday of all days, definitely come here. We no longer will be, especially when on a Tuesday with a pretty empty restaurant we are treated like Lepers, or persona non grata.More

I was in Williamsburg on business. Had a hankering for sushi and Hayashi was close. I am SO glad I went. I ordered sushi and gyoza. My order was delivered to my table quickly and it was fresh and delicious. Staff were friendly and attentive....If my stay had been longer I would have gone back. Honestly, this place was better and yet also cheaper than the places in DC.More

First time having hibachi in 7 years! They have gluten free soy sauce both for personal use and the chefs have it in their carts as well. They prepared my food before everyone else at the table before surfaces etc became contaminated. The servers are...aware of what items are gf and which are not. I had the steak and chicken combination with fried rice. Note: I am gluten intolerant and not celiac.More

My husband and I have been here before with groups for the hibachi/cooking at the table. The food is delicious, best hibachi I have ever had. We went in as a couple on Sunday afternoon and declined eating with a large party of strangers. We...sat on the small table/booth side and were disappointed that we were unable to get the same hibachi style food. Kitchen prepared food was only available and did not even have lo mein noodles like I normally get on the hibachis side. Very disappointed in the food.More

Food was good but the chef was lacking in the entertainment department. Was hoping for some fun but we just got dinner. It was really disappointing especially for the kids at the table.
