After a great week on Ile de Re we chose to cycle to Le Chasse Maree for our last lunch before leaving the Island. It was our best meal of the week and definitely the best value. Don’t be fooled by the simple menu, the...food is really outstanding. My wife and I started with oysters which were the best we’d tasted on Ile de Re (a tough benchmark!). My daughter had the house Foie Gras which was delicately scented and simply delicious. For main we had 1) Brie stuffed with truffles (wow) 2) andouilette (not everyone’s taste but also excellent) 3) a simple Croque Madame. Our neighbours had cooked oysters with saffron which also looked and smelled fantastic. We will definitely return next time we’re back on this beautiful island.More

Had a great dinner with good wine at this really friendly restaurant. Fine dining sitting outside. Would thoroughly recommend.

Had a plain simple lunch when cycling the island at Le Chasse Maree. The owner was most polite and helpful, the food great and the location could not be bettered.

We have had lunch at Le Chasse Maree in other years when the previous owner was in charge. Since we were renting a house in Les Portes we decided that dinner at Le Chasse Maree would work well for us and it would be good...to see what the new owners were doing with the place. The welcome was very friendly and the restaurant was very cosy (unfortunately it was raining so we couldn't sit on the terrace, as we had planned). We had our dog with us and the welcome he received was as good as the one we received!! The menu was relatively limited but that didn't matter because everything on there looked good. We went for the fixed price menu and thought it was very good value indeed. The food was very well cooked and presented. Service was good throughout the evening. Overall, this was the best meal we had during our eight days/nights on the Ile de Re. Don't be put off because it is in Les Portes which is, overall, an expensive part of the island. The restaurant is small so do make sure to book.More

We very much enjoyed our very first meal in La Chasse, not knowing what to expect. The service was friendly and accommodating and the food was excellent as was the wine. Perhaps not a restaurant for the kids as their croque Monsieur was not what...you would wish for, though it was accompanied by a healthy salad, not a commonplace for children in the Ile de Re. This is one to which we will definitely return.More

Knew I was coming up to Portes-en-Re" for lunch, so referred to Trip Advisor to avoid a repeat of yesterdays lunch at a disgusting tourist trap. We were promptly seated at a table on the terrace. They had a limited Prix-Fix menu for lunch. This...is not the kind of place where you are going to be able to get a hamburger or steak frites, so don't waste their time. They have a nice wine list, but since I was driving a small amount of Rose' was in order. They had two entrees, both excellent. One was a fruit and goat cheese pate (for lack of the exact French word) I had a fish pate' with a small light salad. We both had the brochette of beef, but they mussels they offered also looked good. We had one of each dessert: Crème Brule and BaBa rum cake. They bring out the rum sauce in a bottle to the table and you make it to taste. Very pleasant staff speaks enough English and the bathroom was very nice. There is a reason it is #1.More

This restaurant is set in the stunning town of Les Portes en Re overlooking the morning market. It has an excellent value for money menu du jour but we were both tempted by the a la carte menu. The service is very friendly and very...old school. My husband had the saffron risotto with scallops which was amazing and cooked perfectly. I had cod with black rice, bean sprouts with a soy sauce which was yummy. Puddings were tasty too. We had a lovely bottle of muscadet which was one of the cheapest on the menu and it was perfect. Absolutely loved this town and this restaurant. Perfect!More

Food as good as the staff: friendly & professional. Everything looks good and taste nice in a casual environment despite the classy set up.

Nice service, good food. Don't expect haute cuisine but they offer free small dishes before your order. Nice beef filet.

We fell on this place for the first evening we were in the village for a week. We went down to the market and it had a set menu that evening which we didn't understand put took a punt. It was delicious and varied and...all served with great enthusiasm and they all went out of there way to help the ignorant English! As I write this we have been here 5 days and the friendliest we have been to but also the most expensive. Give it a go though .More
