Come and enjoy. Maybe 6 tables. Wonderful service. A huge wine selection with not bad prices. Half the fun is finding the place between a hardware store and a car wash. Then, walking thru the garden, petting the cat and entering the small shop in the front. Being greeted like old friends...............Someone had been cooking something wonderful and surprising the... More

OK, just how good can a grilled cheese sandwich be? See for yourself and stop by to visit this unique, out-of-the-way hole-in-the-wall. Decorated like your grandma's and run by caring people who are genuinely interested in the fact that you will enjoy your meal. Secret to this grilled cheese, garlic (yep), high quality cheeses, mayo and bread to kill for!... More

I had been told to try this place by at least two other people who don't make random, unfounded recommendations about food. Today I ordered a meal that included the salad that I believe was called their "standard salad" or something close to that and smoked salmon and the meal was wonderful. This restaurant is very small and I almost... More

Basic Necessities has been just that for many years. The best locally made bread, great wine selection, delicious lunches and dinners, and lovely people to boot. There's always a good reason to stop in.

We're always looking for a different to eat on our way down to visit daughter and grand kids in Lynchburg... and usually hit Alcohol Alley, aka Rt 151, in Nelson County about lunch time. While it's a little off Rt 29, it's worth the exploration. I had read about Basic Necessities a couple of times, but never really saw it... More

This is a hidden gem. I consider myself a food snob and I can tell you if this tiny restaurant (it only seats a dozen or so) were in a bigger town you would never get in. On my visit I had sea bass. My wife had a chicken dish. I would eat there every week if it weren't 120... More

No one has mentioned the fact that you can hear one another talk without raising your voice. Again. No one has mentioned the outside eating area when the weather is great. Our favorite meal has been the crab cakes...up and down the east coast there is none better. Of course, there are plenty of other delicious entrees to satisfy our... More

I went with my family and friends for Sunday brunch. There was only one other table in the small restaurant area but it took too long to be seated, have our order taken, and to receive our order. The portions are tiny and prices are expensive. I don't mind paying higher prices when dining out, however, my meal was $20.00... More
