After walking through Mount Vernon and taking a boat cruise on the Potomac from the Mount Vernon dock, we had lunch at the Restaurant in the Inn. We made reservations on Open Table and had no problems getting seated. The wait staff were all friendly,...and everyone in our family (two teens and two adults) found a favorite on the menu. The Cobb Salad was amazing - very fresh and a lot of everything. We also enjoyed the burgers. A perfect lunch.More

Either you’ll have to make a reservation or appx 8 people could sit at the bar. I made a reservation, on-line, and was promptly seated. The atmosphere was nice, and the servers were very efficient. I wanted to taste their fried green tomatoes and butternut...squash soup; both were delicious. Tip was not included; I left a good tip and the server thanked me for being a good customer! The restaurant - rear of gift shop and to left.More

We love period restaurants and the Mount Vernon Inn was perfect for lunch. We made reservations ahead of time on Open Table and had only 11:15 or 1:45 to choose from. When we arrived they were empty and by the time we left at 12:30...they were still less than half full and servers were standing around. Given our experience with online reservations, I recommend calling direct if the time you want isn’t available online. We had a nice table by the window in their pub room and a period-dressed musician stopped in and played a very short tune and quickly left. If I hadn’t been looking towards the door, I would have missed seeing him. Our food was good, Butternut Squash Soup, Mushroom Flatbread, Fried BLT and Bread Pudding. Even the chips on the side of my sandwich were warm and not greasy. Given the only other good choices are pre-made and a food court, they are a much better choice.More

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely outdoor dining experience while our young grandson napped peacefully next to us in the refreshing weather today. If the weather is fine, Mount Vernon Inn's patio dining is perfect. Our server, Stephen, was friendly and efficient, an absolute...gentleman, so the service was definitely 5 stars, as well.More

We went here over Valentines Day weekend. It was definitely a nice atmosphere. Service was slow and wait staff didn't seem to know what they were doing - overall service was not what we were expecting. Most food was great, however, a vegetable side was...completely overpowered with red pepper flakes (from someone who generally likes red pepper flakes) - it affected the dish.More

We made a reservation for a late afternoon lunch. It was convenient after our mansion tour, By this time the restaurant was also more quiet. The food was good and the service even better. I enjoyed the experience of eating next door to Washington's home.

Generally, I'm not a big fan of restaurants associated with tourist sites. But this one is the exception. The menu is interesting and the food is very good to excellent. Service is friendly and reasonably quick. Atmosphere is terrific. This restaurant was a very convenient,...positive, and highly memorable "add-on" to our Mt. Vernon visit. Good for children too.More

Waitress was pleasant and attentive with a smile. Not complaining about the food, it was just okay. Biggest disappointment was the overcooked cornbread, and this was the one thing I was looking forward to based on reviews I had read. Quaint setting after a fantastic...tour of GW’s Mount Vernon.More

Excellent food, and warm atmosphere. Our waitress was punctual and professional. The food was delightful, warm, and very savory. The cornbread was soft, fluffy and sweet. The fried chicken salad was cooked perfectly.

This isn't a five-star place, but the menu is interesting and varied with affordable choices. Best of all, we were eating in what looked like an original old Colonial house right next door to the Mount Vernon grounds. Very convenient.

While attending a conference, I had 2 banquet style dinners at the inn. The servers worked very hard and were very friendly. We had a couple choices, including a vegetarian entree. The meals both had good sized portions. I didn't care for their fish, but...their turkey was extremely good! The peanut butter pie was rich and delicious, but the fruit compote the other night was not nearly as tasty.More

We went here to eat vs. the cafe because the tourist info place on the highway recommended it and said the prices were comparable with the cafe and the food was much better. They were right! I was with my mother and we tried 4...appetizers, the peanut soup (did not love it), hoe cakes (like pancakes but made with corn meal (heartier than regular pancakes and topped with a sweet butter), fried green tomatoes (topped with a tomato puree - not bad) and spinach sauteed with garlic (very yummy). Service was great, for most of our meal we were alone in the room, prices were also very good.More
