We stopped here on vacation and it wasn't as expected. Thought it was a nice restaurant overlooking the mill. The mill can't be seen from the restaurant and it is mainly a gift shop. There is a small area where they can dip out a few ice cream flavors. And then the restaurant is this little enclosed patio type area in the back which is probably only about 12 feet wide by about 40 feet long. There was no A/C on a very humid July day but the windows did crank open and there were fans running. The view is rhododendron bushes (which were pretty even though they were starting to turn and die off after blooming).
The staff was friendly and attentive and following Covid-19 appropriate protocol (except for their pens that you sign the receipt with at both the gift shop and when paying). The same pen is used by every customer and was not being sanitized between customers. This practice really disturbed me. I just caked my hands in sanitizer afterwords that I found on the hostess stand.
The food was pretty good. We had the pot roast and the turkey caprese wrap with macaroni and cheese and a side salad. The mac was really really yummy! Prices wee okay. It was $29 before tip.
The big issue was the smell. It was so bad and it stuck with us even when we walked outside (it was coming out the kitchen windows in the front of the building). The smell even got on our masks and we couldn't get it out of our noses. Luckily, we brought extra masks so we could switch them out.
By the way there is no cell service in there either. We wanted to use our phones to get the directions to our next stop, but no service...

I had the best experience with takeout from the Mabry Mill restaurant. A sweet lady helped me carry food out to our car. I was so impressed that they packed extra condiments and gave thought to everything down to putting my whip cream on the side so I could enjoy it with my pancakes. They ( like many places right now) are under staffed and they still went above and beyond for our take out meal. The food was delicious and I will definitely stop by again if I’m in the area.

Cute little house with seating in the back. No frills kind of place but worth the drive the food was amazing! Serving breakfast until noon.
I had the Pecan pancakes with apple compote, 1 egg scrambled, and fresh fruit bowl
my daughter had Oatmeal with apples, cinnamon, pecans, 1 egg scrambled, 2 slices bacon
I cannot say enough about my food the pancakes were to die for!!! I felt bad I couldn’t eat everything, my eyes were much bigger than my stomach.
There’s also a small gift shop at the front of the restaurant. Service was fast and friendly. Highly recommended.

We went out of our way to have breakfast here based on some good reviews. The entire experience was a disappointment. We knew they stopped serving breakfast at noon so made a point of being there at 11:30. When our server finally appeared, she was put out that we wanted breakfast and said” you have less than 2 minutes so hurry up and order” My husband ordered Buckwheat pancakes, which we’ve had 3 times before in Virginia. These were by far the worst we have tasted. My blueberry pancakes were very heavy and dry with few blueberries. I specifically asked if they served Diet Coke, but then was served a Pepsi. To sum up our experience, the food was below par, overpriced and our server gave every indication she would rather not be waiting on customers. Nothing about this restaurant is something I would recommend.

My wife and I visited Mabry Mill Restaurant on 20 October 2022. Having eaten there several years before with a great experience, we were looking forward to a great breakfast. We got seated after about a 20 minute wait and ordered our food; pancakes , eggs, grits, home fries and bacon. Coffee came fast but was a little weak, Our food arrived within 10 minutes. The eggs and grits were good but the bacon was sliced very thin and was stringy and chewy, The home fries were ok but not real good. The pancakes were warm but not hot; they did have a good taste though. The waitress did a good job and can’t fault her for the poor food quality. The total tab for the breakfast with tip was about $36, We left very disappointed with our experience compared to our previous visit. We probably will not eat there again.

I have been eating here a couple of times a year for mostly all of my life. That's well over half a century. I can still remember what it looked like when I was a kid in the 60s and 70s. They have consistently had the best pancakes.
Last Saturday my dad and I drove up to the parkway with the intention of eating some Mabry Mill paancakes. He got the buckwheat pancakes and I had the Harvest. That is pecan pancakes with apples on top. I didn't use any syrup. The plate was a big oval shaped plated stacked deep with three huge pancakes. I could not eat it all, and I tried.
Mabry's Mill restaurant isn't just about the food. It's about the mountain experience.

The only positive about this place is it's location on the parkway. After a long wait for a table (around 2pm), we ordered the chicken salad and the turkey dinner. The chicken salad was tolerable and the turkey dinner was virtually inedible. If you find the turkey palatable, something must be wrong with my taste buds. Don't waste your time here. Use the exit before Mabry Mill to get something in the small commercial town. Yuck!

I’ll start with the positives first. We had a great time visiting the mill and the souvenir shop. The restaurant was another matter entirely. We stood in line to be seated at the restaurant. When our turn came, the hostess refused to look up at us the entire time. In case you are wondering, we did not have any interaction with her prior to our turn to deserve the “cold” treatment. We didn’t join the dots until much later when we noticed that caucasian customers before and after us were served perfectly well. She obviously did not like brown skinned folks. I chose to ignore the incident until yesterday when a friend pointed out that people who stay silent about such treatment are equally to blame for the problem. Needless to say, we left and got stellar service at another restaurant, a few minutes down the road. The only sad part was that I had to lie to my daughter about why we were not able to find a place there while others before and after us had no issues.

My husband and I were very disappointed today. We have been visiting here for many years and this time, it was not up to par. We both had pancakes. They were warm enough to eat, but didn’t melt the butter. The sausage was cold and the coffee was just lukewarm. We didn’t complain, but we should have. The waitress was a little rude, but we overlooked it because she was the only waitress there and could have been overwhelmed.

We had a terrific drive down the open section of the Parkway from Roanoke on a sunny blue sky Fall afternoon; that was the best part of our outing. Once we arrived at the restaurant we encountered a couple of service issues that really put us off. Those issues were all the more surprising, considering that our arrival was after 2PM when most of the tables in the dining room were empty. Issue one was with the individual stationed behind the hostess stand; cold and curt enough to be considered nasty. Not just to us, but to a couple of others we watched. Issue two was the wait time; 30 minutes for a pair of wraps. "The kitchen had issues" we were told.

Hubby who is not fussy, said coffee was worst he'd ever had.
Older big woman serving was very rude, and disinterested. "Whatever" when we said we'd paid??
Nowhere cool to sit.
Wouldn't go back.
The mill however, was beautiful.

I would give the restaurant ½ star, if possible. After waiting 1½ hours for a table, we sat down. No beverages were available for my husband, so we ordered water. Fine. My husband ordered the turkey dinner. Also fine. I ordered a chicken salad wrap and fruit. The server said, "Fine," and off she went to put our orders in. When she brought our food, my husband's order was correct. Mine? A chicken salad sandwich on toast and French fries. I said, that isn't what I ordered. Her reply, "We don't have a chicken salad wrap and fruit on the menu." I said, "But you have wraps on the menu, and sides are listed right here, including fruit." She insisted that putting the chicken salad on a tortilla wasn't possible because that isn't listed on the menu, and fruit cannot be an option, even though it is listed with fruit as a side option. I told her to take the sandwich and fries back. Really? What is wrong with this restaurant? Obviously, service isn't part of management's plan. I've been to the Mabry Mill Restaurant twice: first time; last time. Don't waste YOUR time going there.

We were very excited to try the restaurant thinking it was connected to the mill itself. I don't think this was the case. The mill is not working so no dishes would be made with anything ground here. It is really just an ordinary diner type place along the parkway. That said, it was fine. I tried the cornmeal pancakes and they were very good. The waitress was excellent.

This review has nothing to do with the food or the service. It was all good. However, as we were leaving the restaurant at 4:30, two or three people came to be seated and were told they were not seating any more people. The website clearly states the restaurant closes at five. One couple was running through the parking lot saying, “Oh good, we made it in time!” I think this is just wrong.

A guidebook or Web site we had used said the restaurant closed at 6:00 p.m. in October. It did not, it closed at 5:00 p.m. My wife had wanted the chicken pot pie, but they were out of it, so we both had the turkey. It was okay. Service was good, but the restaurant is quite small with few tables.
