We saw it on the way to visit a relative and was happy to find out later that it was ranked #1 in Madison. Food was so yummy. Restaurant was cozy and well-decorated. It seems the restaurant is very famous in the area so you should call for reservation. The food portion is huge. We had honey walnut shrimps for... More

As someone who studies Germany and has lived there, this was absolutely NOT authentic food or even good food. It left much to be desired. The French onion soup was good but the meal went downhill from there. The ambiance is good but can't make up for an uninspired menu and poor execution of the dishes.

While you may wonder about this restaurant from the log cabin facade you will be more than pleasantly surprised. They have been in this family business for many years in the piedmont area of Virginia. Between Culpeper and Charlottesville. We went for a Birthday dinner and will definitely be back. There are two dining rooms upstairs is more family and... More

This is the place to go if you miss the art of European cooking -- or if you need to have your swoon over the taste and consistency of food calibrated. We have visited this little piece of heaven for 30 years -- with lots of family of all ages and good friends who ave lived in Germany -- and... More

This is a special treat! I've eaten here with my family/large groups for many years and each time the food is always delicious. I love their delightful red pepper & crab soup as well as the escargot. Of the vegetable sides the creme corn is my favorite. Their variety of Belgian beer is outstanding. My favorite main dish, I cannot... More

Authentic Bavarian cuisine in a haus atmosphere, with costumed waitstaff and creative menu. The meatloaf is more like a ham sandwich but is unique. The huge portions of weiner schnitzel lasted for three meals--especially with the delicious vegetables. I loved the glazed carrots. My husband ordered the pork chops and they came with a delicious apple compote. Do order the... More

The rolls were burnt and room temperature. The veal was only about an 1/8" thick, with heavy breading, which made it look like before. The zucchini side dish only had 3 pieces of zucchini, the rest was tomato mush and onions. The creamed corn was identical to canned creamed corn from the grocery store. The Wiener schnitzel used to have... More

I've lived in Germany for several years and can honestly say this will never pass for German cuisine. Bread served was burned but cold. The sauerbraten was inedible. I cannot describe how bad it tasted. The red cabbage was like eating a detergent and the spaetzle was like plastic. I saw mixed reviews but thought I would give the Bavarian... More

Food was ok but too much of it. Meatloaf was strange and sparsely was bland but schnitzel with mushrooms was good. Waitress was friendly and knowledgeable but waited forever for the bill.

Although our visit started a little slow and a little rough we were pleasantly surprised at our visit. The food was very good the portions were very huge and the atmosphere was nice. And when we did have a little trouble with our service they were quick to comp our bottle of wine to make up for it. We didn't... More
