Excellent food in a cozy and very interesting building. The food varies seasonally and has unique preparations, with excellent quality. It was all delicious! We enjoyed being able to watch the activities in the kitchen. And the service was exceptional.

We were led online to the Red Hen, and were glad to have found it. Downtown Lexington, small (10-12 tables), venerable building, open kitchen (smaller than yours, or ours). Varied, sophisticated menu, although not lengthy. My wife had fish, while I foraged among the appetizers; we were both pleased with our choices.

My daughter and I had a fabulously healthy, filling, and delicious dinner at this quaint Lexington restaurant. There is nothing like it in town! Book early as there are only a few tables in this small space, but that adds to the experience. Expect wonderful service. We've returned several times for the expertly prepared, locally sourced dishes.

While in Lexington for Parents Weekend at W&L, we decided to try a different restaurant! A quaint place, unique decor-we had a wonderful experience-loved the atmosphere, fantastic service & delicious food. It was quite expensive-not sure if that was due to the school event, but at least we enjoyed our visit! Would definitely recommend-all of us enjoyed our meals!!

A wonderful, intimate setting that specializes in creative preparation of locally sourced fare. The kitchen is tiny and open to the dining room, which gives diners a view into preparation activities. Friendly, informed, and unobtrusive service, generous drinks, and terrific food make this an excellent dining experience. Save room for dessert! The restaurant only seats about 24 people, so reserve... More

Never mind the food at the Red Hen--which is excellent, inventive and delicious. What I like to do is sit at the small bar (two people, maybe three) overlooking the kitchen and watch the three cooks. The first time, I was hesitant to talk with them, not wanting to distract them. But they are very friendly and I've returned several... More

I have dined at The Red Hen many times over the last couple of months. The building (an old tavern), the service, the drinks, and especially the food combine for a wonderful dining experience. The menu changes frequently to include fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The staff was extremely knowledgeable about the ingredient that went into their food and very adept... More

During previous north-south trips between Arlington VA and Chattanooga TN, my wife and I usually stop in Lexington to break up the 600 mile trip. In the past we've tried to get into the quaint Red Hen restaurant, but we hit the days it was closed. This time we were lucky, and what a treat the visit was. The restored... More

This is a winner of a restaurant!! One of the best in Lexington. Make your reservations early as it is small and quaint and thus not always easy to get a reservation. Food is perfectly prepared unique and tasty..with a gourmet flare.

We cannot rave enough about this place. Great atmosphere, great food. We had a potato salad appetizer that was out of this world, and I don't even like potato salad! I had a mushroom dish and my husband had the halibut. We were amazed at the tasty dishes! The chef is great a using subtle flavors to make you ask,... More
