This local restaurant is among the few to thrive in the Northern Neck for almost a century. To this day it’s success is attributed to its founder, Harry Lee’s insistence on three simple goals: Good food, Good service and Good prices. Love eating here. Never disappointed!

We decided to go to Kilmarnock since it was such a beautiful Fall day, saw a lot of color in the trees today. We got to Lee's a little after noon. Place was hopping and we were lucky to get seated rather quickly. It's an extensive menu and they have a board of daily specials. Waitress was prompt & friendly. I got soft shell crabs, mac & cheese and cole slaw. My husband ordered cream of potato soup, coconut shrimp, beets, & fries. His soup was very tasty, not hot enough for me temperature-wise. There were plenty of waitresses and they were very busy! Our food came fairly quickly. Mac & cheese was spot on - not too salty, w/ flecks of cheese & good creaminess. Cole slaw was fine, my soft-shell crabs were delicious. My husband enjoyed his coconut shrimp, fries, & beets. The meals came w/ warm rolls. The side portions are not huge, think of an old fashion diner using those small side plates. My only disappointment were the pies. Very reasonable at $4 per slice and definitely homemade but I thought the lemon meringue wasn't very lemony. Richardson's Cafe in Mathews has an outstanding lemon meringue pie. My husband's coconut cream pie was good not exceptional. By the time we left, there was a waiting line to get in. Just a very clean place, great service, with down home cooking. None of the waitresses were wearing masks and most patrons upon entering also did not wear masks.

My family has lived in this part of Virginia for centuries. and with Lowery's upriver in Tappahannock now gone, Lee's is the undisputed leader of traditional family / seafood restaurants on the Rappahannock, bar none. The food is simple local fare and recipes carefully prepared and served. Seafood is of course a specialty but especially when oysters are out of season (any month without an R!) their other food is great. I am not even a dessert aficionado but their pies and cakes are too good to pass up. Prices are also more than reasonable because this is above all else a local place with generational customer loyalty and not a tourist venue.

On a day trip to Kilmarnock we decided to eat lunch here. The main room of the restaurant was so loud that we had to sit in a side room. My wife’s flounder sandwich had fried fish with the skin still on it. She didn’t know that until she investigated the fishy taste and discovered the skin. Her “cup” of soup was just shy of a small teacup in size. I ordered a burger (medium) and onion rings and I got a burger and fries. My wife pointed out the lack of onion rings to the waitress (who was pleasant enough) so she brought an order of rings. 7 rings. Outside layers of an onion so they weren’t soft and weren’t completely covered by the coating. The burger looked great but there was no pink in it and the meat was so tightly packed and smooth it had to have lots of filler. And the iced tea was watery. So a second visit is out of the question.

I enjoyed the food. The crab cake was said by waitress to be very good, not much filler. We ordered the fish and crab cake. I was dissatisfied with the crab cake! It was full of filler! I tried hard to find some crab. I wouldn't order it again. How does a place , on the water, not serve good seafood!

Just what we were looking for in the the way of basic home cooked food. Wonderful friendly staff, more than fair portions and very good selection of homemade desserts. We would highly recommend for families, couples and all ages looking for something in between fast food and expensive fine dining.

I had the Monster sandwich. A large soft shell crab, a large crab cake, bacon, lettuce and tomato. Served with a side of fries. $22. Very flavorful, yummy. My wife had the soft shell crab sandwich (only one claw), hence the 4 star review. Service great. Place is spotless. Parking in the rear. Too full to try the homemade pies.

Seven adults and three children, all enjoyed the great food and family atmosphere. The fried chicken here is always delicious, stewed tomatoes as well. This is our "go to" place to eat in Kilmarnock.

This was a cute local family restaurant. We enjoyed stopping for lunch on Friday and returned on Saturday for another slice of pie. The waitress remember us and brought out the same drinks we had the day before. Very impressed with her and found out she was a 4th generation of the Lee Family. Very quaint place. The pie is worth the trip.

The Lee's restaurant has a few really good choices. We ate outside and it was pretty noisy. Next time we ate inside and it was great. It has been remodeled and very clean. The service was pretty good considering how crowded it was. I had the roast beef with mashed potatoes and it was delicious! Order standard dishes and it will be delicious! Don't forget their famous pies!

It's the place the locals go. And I guess the locals are quite happy with their experience. I know I was. My lunch was a cut above what I was expecting for their reasonable pricing. The variety of options was outstanding. And the service was most pleasant and expedient. I'll be back ... again and again. Maybe in a few years I'll be considered one of the locals.

It is easy to overlook this little place on the main street of Killmarnock - but it is SO worth stopping by. It has a great family atmosphere (no beer or wine sold here! How great!) The place is clean and nicely furnished and the staff were friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. We had the fresh seafood and weren't disappointed. If you stop in, try the Coconut Cream Pie - delicious!

Always good, always a huge menu where everything tastes good. Not fine dining, but vibrant, very friendly, and lots of side dish options to suit everyone. We love to support local!

Great place! It was full of locals; so we knew we were in the right place. The food is straight forward delicious. The atmosphere is casual, family dining without pretentious names and relish. We both had combos. The oysters were amazing and so were the scallops. They came with two homemade sides of your choice. My only regret is that we were too full for dessert.

I can’t speak to the food as we had to walk out after waiting 20 minutes to get a table then another 30 minutes sitting at the table with never seeing a server after having the menus dropped off. Oddly or not so oddly the table right next to ours was seated after us with a local family as evidenced by the conversation of how is so and so on. The server took their orders and brought their drinks without ever offering to help us or inquire as to our ordering status. An interesting note is that before the local family took the table next to us was a man who not served either and walked out. We should have taken his example and not wasted our time.
