Stopped at this restaurant on the way back from DC. The owner and staff were very welcoming and kind. The food was outstanding and it was one of the best Indian/Tamil restaurants I have ever been to. Parotta was made fresh and tasted wonderful as...well as all the other dishes we had. Looking forward to coming back soon!More

It’s nice to see an authentic South Indian restaurant, as many ethnic restaurants nowadays are making more bland dishes. Kalpaasi had authentic Chettinad flavor. I ordered the vegetarian thali while my husband ordered the Utthapam. Everything was delicious. I don’t eat much spicy food, so...the buttermilk and lots of water helped. The restaurant was on the colder side. Service was excellent, as well.More

Had paper onion masala dosa which came with good amount of sambhar. The stuffing was on the side instead of inside which actually worked much better and the coconut chutney was very tasty. Only thing is the dosa was thick - not paper dosa.

I like the food, it is very authentic South Indian food. The flavors are fresh, exquisite and always have originality. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will always come back to have some great food in the area.

Had lunch here with family. Reached quite late, but the staff were very friendly and accommodating! Nicely set up restaurant with large seating area. The starters set the pace for our lunch. Very tasty prawns 65! The mutton kothu parrota and Biriyani was superb. A...desert of ice cream on carrot halwa rounded off our lunch. Don’t miss ‘Kalpasi’ when you want South Indian cuisine!More

Very below average food, didn’t taste fresh cooked at all . Will not recommend, all precooked food taste like blend and no flavor

you will experience some non typical offerings from south India here. The spice level is great. Flavorful without being overpowering.

We usually go to several other Indian restaurants around Herndon, but this is the first time we came to this one. Food The minute my appetizer (Chicken 65) came in, I fell in love with the taste and flavor. We also ordered Appam (which was...spectacular), Naan w/ Paneer Tikka Masala (Also an amazing dish), and Kothu Paratha (very flavorful as well!). The food was so good that we got seconds on the appam. 10/10 Service Everyone was super friendly and since the people who work here and come here are Tamil, it worked out very well for us as a Chettinad and Tamil family. 10/10 Overall, this is a restaurant you shouldn’t miss whatsoever. The food (flavor and quality) here is something to die for. A whole family from toddlers to grandparents will love the various dishes that Kalpasi has to offer!More

Had dinner here on Jun 17th. The food was very good but very spicy. Service was average. The cuisine is Chettinad (an area in Tamil Nadu). Filter coffee was very well-made.

The manager was very helpful and informative when we had questions about the menu. On a scale of 1 to 5 for their heat index we chose three and it was some of the hottest Indian we’ve ever had. We had chicken vindaloo and the...other chicken special that the manager recommended. Both dishes came out and looked identical, but the vindaloo was definitely hotter as expected. At every other Indian restaurant I have eaten that they use chicken breast for the meat here it was thighs and not near as good due to the gristle and fat included. The manager brought us complementary yogurt to put out the fire. The nun was good but too crunchy for my taste. The next day both of us had a long day in the bathroom when we woke up. Would not go back based upon this.More
