Wow, truly authentic and so delicious! We just happened to stop here while passing through, and Im so glad. What a hidden gem. The chips arent free but theyre worth it, theyre homemade and amazing (so is the salsa). Even the chicken tenders and fries...for the kids was awesome. Im not kidding. We live nowhere near here, but if we pass through again Im stopping.More

This is a great place to eat! The staff is very attentive and the food is amazing. I highly recommend everyone to try and eat here when in town. The prices are really reasonable and you won't regret your decision. They even do $1 tacos...on Tuesdays!More

NOT for vegetarians ! So disappointed that , when asking the waitress what vegetables they had, she named off their vegetarian meals. We asked again and she asked “what are vegetables?” After a short explanation, the only vegetables offered were onions and peppers. Please note...they do not have fajitas at this location either.More

This is not a fancy place at all, but the delicious tasting food served with a smile from friendly staff makes up for it. I ate for lunch after tasting some tacos at a local outdoor party. I ordered some chips with guacamole for an...appetizer and it was yummy. I then ordered a chicken burrito and it was awesome too. The whole meal with sweet tea was under $12. I will definately be back soon.More

They have the famous painting with Pandas on the wall where it used to be a chinese restaurant - well they put sombreros on the Pandas and it made it to the front page of Reddit, thus putting Harrisonburg on the map!

The atmosphere, location, and entrance into the restaurant could put you off a little bit...but the food is delicious. We had flour tortilla tacos and they were some of the best we've had. Also, the dishes were very affordable! This would have gotten a 5...if... - They served margaritas (all they have is beer) - The atmosphere was a little more...existent - Chips and salsa came standard and free like most Mexican restarauntsMore

Ate here with a large group of people from work. They were very accommodating a little over whelmed and slight mix ups but pretty good service. The food was pretty authentic which is great since I am always looking for authentic Mexican. Would visit again...if I want Mexican food and I am in the area. Outside of the building is not attractive but the food is good.More

Got a tip from someone who knows - a 4th year student at JMU - yes, they know what is good. This little place offer home-cooked style Mexican food. Start with chips and salsa. Unlike other places, you have to buy it but you pay...a small price for an amazing taste. Great, freshly made chips and yummy salsa. Try the Carne Asada Tacos or the meal. The meal comes with rice and beans. What is the difference from other places? It is not pretentious - it is simple and because of that authentic and the best thing you have had! The service is attentive, the environment casual and comfortable. Everything seems very clean - even the panda painting from prior Chinese restaurant times adds to the feel. I would go there in a heartbeat and this is why Taco Tuesdays with the fresh tiny tacos are a must!More

I am from Southern California the land of Mexican food. It was hard to find Mexican food that matched what I grew up with. The "Carnitas" tacos really remind me of home. The restaurant beans also taste like home.

Based on the fact that we were just about the only gringoes in the place, I cannot refute El Sol's claim that they offer authentic Mexican food. But, we've eaten a lot of Mexican food in California, Texas, Arizona, Mexico, Pennsylvania and Virginia, so we...do have some idea of how good Mexican good can be. El Sol seems to offer two options: bland and greasy or add hot sauce. Nice people, but nasty food. Over the years, I've learned that I don't always like "authentic", whether it be Thai, Indian, Mexican or whatever.More

We ate here for the second time last night. Food was great, everything tastes freshly prepared and flavorful, not overly salty. Quick friendly service. Best Mexican food we have eaten in many years! Note the restaurant is closed on Wednesdays.

I went into El Sol being told it was an authentic Mexican Restaurant but still expecting to have a meal like so many others I've had before, Mexican/American. The first bite into my tacos and my taste buds were pleasantly surprised! My Mexican wasn't full...of salt based seasons or grease like every other "Mexican" meal I've had before. No, my tacos had a flavor of their own from the seemingly fresh ingredients they were made with! Wow how refreshing that was! They also had multiple dining rooms of different sizes allowing for small groups or large parties. The wait staff was pleasant and came to our table as needed but was not intruzive. I would most certainly enjoy another visit to El Sol.More

Our party of four (all adults) enjoyed our visit to El Sol. The food was excellent; each of us loved our meals. The service was okay; we had to ask for silverware and a beer glass. We only found out as we were leaving that...the restaurant serves enchiladas; they are not on the menu and have to be requested.More
