We ate here because we were guests at the hotel and needed to eat early.
The room is nice, the service was fine, the food was mediocre at best. We ordered hummus thinking that was basic but it wasn't recognizable and served with tortilla chips not bread.
I ordered the mac n cheese thinking that was basic but it was overseasoned to the point where I could hardly eat it.
My wife had the grilled chicken which was too dry and hard to eat.
But, our guests ate all of the salmon and the big burger, so maybe the food was 50/50.

There is a coffee place inside the Montpelier Restaurant. It's a cute alcove of espresso shots and lattes. The pastries looked delicious though I was already too full to indulge. Prices are reasonable, cheaper than Starbucks. Will visit again on my next trip.

Went here before my Sons graduation with him and found the experience to be pleasant! Service was excellent, from the hostess who was very inviting to our on the ball waitress, who never let us wonder where she was!
Had a simply delicious Chicken Noodle Soup that was rich and flavorful, full of veggies and chicken! Also, they have a pretty good crab dip too! Very rich and flavorful with hunks of crab!
My sons Salmon was a bit dry, but flavorful, with a tasty Tomato Bacon Mac n’ Cheese! My Chicken Fried Steak was also very tasty and prepared well! Sometimes they can be dry, but this one was very moist and tender! Garlic mash was excellent, super flavorful and velvety! Superb! Finished with a chewy Creme Brûlée, could have been chilled a little while longer.
Bill was under a $100 with drinks, so not bad and this hotel has a very nice lobby area and I probably would stay here the next time in Harrisonburg.

This possibly the worse dining experience and horrible food that was not worth the wait or price. Made a reservation weeks advance based on the restaurant description. The wait staff did their very best with a clear staffing shortage. We were seated right at our reservation time. Placed an appetizer order, waited 45 min and needed to ask if the nachos were ready, server seemed to have forgotten. We couldn’t order the wings because the fryer was broken. Ok things happen. While still waiting on our appetizer and after placing our dinner, we received “Chex Mix” because they were busier than usual. It was oyster cracker, croutons and whatever they could find in the cracker family. After one hour and 20 min our dinner arrived. My $44 meatloaf dinner presentation was very nice, but I could barely chew the meat and it taste like salt was poured on the whole dish. Southern friend chicken sandwich was on a regular store bought hamburger roll, not breaded and hanging off the plate. The pulled pork sandwich was extremely dry. The French fries were not edible. Too boot we never had any beverage refill because the waiters were literally running around to keep up. The bathroom were filthy was overflowing trash cans, stalls without toilet paper, people’s empty water bottles and no soap. Very disappointed, it is not the upscale casual dining “ restaurant as advertised. We had McDonald’s when we left still hungry

Some friends and I drove over from Charlottesville on November 1st to attend a program at the Forbes Theater. We made reservations at Monty's, at my suggestion. We wanted to grab a bite before the 8 pm show. Some of the food was actually inedible. My fries were so greasy and heavily salted, that I did not eat most of them. The same for my two friends. One of my friends ordered a chicken sandwich that he said the same thing about.--overly salted. He did not eat most of it. Salt preferences are varied due to both taste and health concerns. Salt can always be added at the table by the diner, but it cannot be removed. The kitchen staff should be made aware of this and stop adding so much that people grimace when we bite into our food.

This place is definitely a restaurant that is mostly serving the people staying at hotel Madison. I was sitting at the hotel with Work and me and my colleagues went to eat at this restaurant because it was convenient, and the menu looked good. I was not very hungry so I just got the Caesar salad and the French onion soup. Both dishes were a little better and a little fancier than your average Caesar salad and French onion soup. What really did it for me was the fries. I did not order the fries but my coworker ordered the fries because she had seen someone else eating them and they were amazing. We tried to ask them where they were getting these fries how they were making them. They were thick cut, but spiraled. Unfortunately I do not have a picture but I would go here for the fries alone.

We recently hosted a group dinner for the SWCW Board and Regents during our conference at the Hotel Madison.
We could not have been more pleased with the excellent planning services of Joyce Sullivan, the Reservation and Events Coordinator for the restaurant. She worked with us in selecting the perfect menu for a variety of tastes and dietary needs, as well as setting up the private room just right for our little group.
On the night of the event, servers Grady and Kayla provided top-notch service to our guests. When one of our gluten-free guests had concerns about the menu item she had pre-selected, the staff quickly substituted a choice that met her needs and tickled her palette.
The next day when we had some minor questions about the billing, staff member Cameron Church met with me and was able to quickly resolve the discrepancy and immediately issue a refund. That is great customer service!
Our guests were so pleased with the menu selections, the ambiance of the private room, and the outstanding service we received for this special dinner. As planners, we were thrilled with the personal attention our somewhat small event merited, and the quality of the interactions with the staff.
We can highly recommend the staff and service at the Montpelier Restaurant.

We came here for location and highly recommend.
We had a extremely bad experience.
They run out of many dishes out of a very short list, so we ate what they had.
Food started to come in waves, so everyone ate almost alone.
Desert was terrible, chocolate espresso, one of the worst cakes in years.
Never will come back.

The Montpelier Restaurant has a nice attractive bar and an interesting menu, as well as the perfect spot to cap off the Christmas parade, tree lighting and big JMU win. They still had a great Williamsburg Alewerks Pumpkin Ale available and they have a short happy hour Tues.-Thurs. from 5-6:30, as well as a Sunday brunch from 10-2pm. It has a nice casual but elegant atmosphere and a TV by the bar.

Montpelier is a nice place located in the Madison Hotel especially in a cold night in town. Ups?, it is there if you stay at the hotel and has no desire to get out in town. Down? It is always busy because it is located in a conference center and the price of the drinks area little high compare to a few downtown places. I stayed at the hotel two nights and found the bar very lively and pleasant place but always crowded. I had bad food for breakfast (not good smell bacon and hard scrambled eggs. I hope mine is bad one, not everyone. Over all, I think it is an average hotel place that serves captive audience.

Hello, and thank you for your visit to Montpelier Restaurant and Bar during your stay at Hotel Madison. We're glad you find it to be a nice place. It does sound like it may have been a particularly busy time while you were here! Our breakfast buffet is generally well-received so we're sorry the applewood smoked bacon and eggs weren't to your liking. We hope you return on another visit as we also have an array of breakfast items on our menu from which to choose, including our popular Shenandoah Breakfast with eggs made to order.

Parents weekend at JMU made things very busy. We were seated for 15 minutes before someone came over to ask if we were helped yet. The waitress who was reassigned to us completely turned the situation around as some of our party was a little grumpy ( and hungry).. some had the buffet which was okay. Not a ton of options but a good selection. Others ordered off the menu. All ways yummy. Would definitely go back when it’s less busy.
