Delicious food, great service

This is a really nice Asian restaurant. The staff is very friendly and the accomodations are very comfortable. I ordered the Hibachi steak and chicken. The food came piping hot and seasoned beautifully. They give a complimentary salad. The ginger dreessing is very tasty. The menu has a large varriety of selections. I will deffiniitely return.

Excellent Anniversary Dinner

My wife and I had dinner here tonight while spending an anniversary getaway at Massanutten. My wife had sushi (3 different rolls) I had the steak, shrimp and lobster hibachi. Everything was absolutely amazing. Our waiter was fantastic

Great Asian Food

I had whitetail jalapeno for an appetizer, it was great. Then I had the Vietnamese House Special Pho. Wow, I can't wait to go back and try sushi and other Asian meals.

Takes the cake…

Takes the cake for terrible experiences. This was not our first time at Sakura 10 in Harrisonburg, VA but is very likely our last. Our daughter is a student at JMU and visit regularly. It was apparently our server’s first night working there. And it was JMU’s Family weekend on a Friday night, so it was predictably busy. The number of issues we experience go beyond both of those facts. New server forgot to place my daughter’s sushi order My wife’s order was wrong My wife removed far more dishes from our table than our server. My Tempura chicken was room temp Another table that arrived well after us (+45min) received their orders before us (same server) Had to get our own chop sticks and to-go boxes New server never followed up or checked in with us, refill waters or drinks, notify us status of orders, apologize for the delay, literally NOTHING! Fried rice was very bland An experienced, second server stepped in and pretty much did the best he could. He was tipped due to how he got things done. When checking out, told the manager and staff of our experience and how they’re inadequate training of their new employees reflects poorly on their business. Another hostess/manager said under her breathe sarcastically “it’s not like we’re not busy” that my wife heard (who has worked extensively in the restaurant industry), to which my wife replied: ‘You can still provide good customer service when you’re busy and short staffed. It’s very obvious our server was not sufficiently trained or ready for what was known to be a busy night. She did not even check on us once even refill our water.” They then proceeded to make other excuses. The manager apologized and took 20% off our bill. Honestly, they probably should have just comp’d the entire bill given the number of issues experienced, maybe then we’d be more open to returning. We were not the only customers complaining that we could hear. Sakura management really needs to evaluate how they train their new employees. Putting them on the floor solo on an extremely busy night should obviously be avoided. If you’re understaffed or overwhelmed, then limit the number of tables being seated and communicate to your customers that things will take a little longer. We were thankful for the seasoned server who pretty much took over our table as best he could. That server demonstrated exemplary customer service as compared to any of the managers.

How much should one negative review count?

Let me start by saying that this has been oneof ur favorites spots for a couple of years. In that time we've never had a bad meal...until the last one. Actually, saying that it was a bad meal is something of an overstatement. It just wasn't what we've come to expect. Large portions of the meal were off. Example: my wife and I both had the teriyaki chicken. This has always been very good. The chcicken was usually lightly browned, and the texture was moist. This time it was more like dry tofu. Not browned, not tasty. I started with the disclaimer that Sajura had always been good. That's because I want to believe that theis was a fluke. I've never reviewed them before, and perhaps I should have, to have given them the pluses that I think they deserved, and hope they'll earn in the future.

Good Food, but some things were odd

The food was fresh and delicious and the server was sweet as can be (Brittany, maybe). But they only gave you one plastic fork and it was on a bar napkin. That was really odd for a nice place with excellent food. The Crab Rangoon was delicious. Sushi fresh. Miso soup great. Fried rice awesome. Lots of choices well paced.

Great Asian spot in Harrisonburg

I'll have to say the food here is decently priced, food is flavorful, and the staff super friendly. My overall experience was pleasant and I did not expect it at all. We normally stop by this shopping center when we travel from christiansburg to northern, Va to get a few things at Kroger. This time it was later in the evening and needed to catch dinner; my vegetarian family of 5 was not disappointed!

Great tasting Vietnamese Pho

I have been to Vietnam around 12-12 times so I have had some awesome Pho in my day. I stoppped in here based on the reviews that I read and am glad that I did. My waitress was very polite and took great care of me. The pho was as close to being in Vietnam that I have had outside of Vietnam. It was delicious. I will be back. Enjoy.

Unexpected gem

I stopped for an early dinner with my wife. The place is large inside tho the booth seating needs work as the people behind you can keep knocking your seat back. It seems there isn't much between each booth. The sushi tho was very Good, with the rice feeling light and airy and the tuna and salmon fresh and a good size. The waitress was very good and attentive. Overall an unexpected delight

Sushi and rolls

I don’t know what other people are talking about, between the eel, spicy tuna rolls and bento box of teriyaki steak - everything we had was delicious! The gyoza was also spot on. Would recommend if in the area and want decent Japanese food!

We like sushi. Whenever we travel to another town the first thing we do is search out the recommended sushi restaurants of which Sakura was one. It is probably the worst we have ever been to. The atmosphere includes an attempt to resemble a proper sushi restaurant but falls far short with this huge imitation waterfall of some sort of pop art design. Guns and Roses and similar outdated rock and roll on the sound system and an overworked, un-enthused wait staff. But even if you get by all that the food could save the experience. Not so. Nothing had any taste. Either the sushi has been kept on ice too long or just inferior grade but there was no taste in what I ordered which included four different sushi and an order for a Chirasi bowl which had probably 8 different pieces - again no taste. The seaweed salad was ok as was the sticky rice but not worth the expense. I'm sure there's better sushi places in Harrisonburg.

Better places to eat in Harrisonburg

I was very disappointed. The server was terrible. Basically walked up to the table and stood there with no greeting, just a "what can I get you". It did not improve the entire meal. Food was ok but nothing worth noting.

Nice Sushi Bar

Had gotten some nice pad thai to go a few times and was very satisfied. Very good and quite a generous portion (both times). While waiting the first time, I noticed they had a nice (smaller) sushi bar, so I decided I had to try it out sometime. I did that on my birthday in June. The sushi chef (possibly the owner) was very nice and certainly talented. And he was welcoming and gave us some very tasty extras. The sushimi appetizer I always get as sushi bars was delicious as was everything we ordered: several nice sushi rolls. Of course, everything was fresh or I wouldn't bother giving them this good review. Also, I had some tasty cold sake, which is a must for me when I do sushi. I am definitely looking forward to my next visit. Keep up the good work!
