Sad but true

General consensus is true, price have increased and quantity has decreased somewhat but the quality and flavors are still evolving. Better than the corner Chinese eats. Love the flavors and huge menu. Don't order hungry, you'll end up with too much food. Ordered online and food was ready at the appointed time for pick up. Will be ordering again and again as long as they continue to please my palate.

Today I got an order for five....the restaurant was clean and now the dinning room is open....however, the chic fried rice, not the same.....no more home made crunches for the egg drop soup, they used to have the best in town, that is how I rate a restaurant. Everyone enjoyed their food except for the fried rice and soup. The owner who was always cooking is not there and his wife is no longer at the checkout.

Late Lunch Monday - General Tso's Chicken

For this region of the country/state of VA, I personally think every Chinese food resturant taste about the same (some worse than others)... and all with American enfluence. This resturant however, has been voted best Chinese food in Hampton Roads dating back to 2015. They've maintained some authenticity and they are consistantly good. Cost more than the corner or "hole in the wall" chinese resturant; that's because they're better and worth it! Giv'em a shot, they won"t disappoint.

What a disappointment!

The last time we went to Good Fortune we had to do a take-out order because they had closed the dining room. We were looking forward to dining there. We ordered sizzling rice crust (shrimp) for two, moo shi pork and vegetable delight. No ABC License now. Soup was brought out in two cups with the rice squares (2) on a separate plate. The soup wasn't in a serving bowl. My spoon was a small round spoon. My husband's spoon was a serving spoon. The soup was hot, but it wasn'tthe same as before. A few minutes later the vegetable delight was brought to the table in a huge round platter. But there wasn't a serving spoon. And the rice was in two small bowls. We waited for the moo shi pork to be brought out and it was in another huge round platter, with the pancakes on another plate. No serving spoon. We had to ask for dinner plates. The hostess (?) said, "you want more plates?" Ans then we had to ask for the plum sauce for the moo shi pork. No fortune cookies with the bill. There were takeout customers during the time we were there. But we were the only people in the dining area. I don't know if we'll be back.

Very good Asian food

I am always impressed with the food offered here. The food is tasty and well prepared. The service is also great and the portions are also more than enough. And the chicken teriyaki sticks are also very tasty. All and all we enjoy eating here.

The worst place to experience good hospitality.

I called in my ordered . The female owner was disrespectful when I arrived to pick it up she spoke in a condescending manner, after she was confronted for being on the phone and never acknowledging me; when confronted she stated she was on the phone for 13-15 minutes and if I didn’t like it - not to come back to her resterant; then before I could get out the parking lot she called me on my cell phone and asked me to buy the food I ordered; needless to say, I didn’t buy the food nor have I been back. Respect is free and free was too much for her. I wouldn’t mind if she was one of the first to be deported.

Food is horrible now (new management) Customer service atrocious

This place used to have the best Chinese food! Since it’s been sold it has gone downhill. Food quality and customer service leave much to be desired. I have been a customer since I was a teen but I will not return. The general Tsos was so hard. It was as if they used old product, refried it and put sauce on it. When I called to tell the restaurant, she hung up in me! I wish someone would find Karen (the original owner) and beg her to come back. These people are ruining the name and legacy and they clearly don’t care!!

Seems This Has Gone Down Hill

It seems my daughter and my SiL decided on coming to Good Fortune as my daughter and her SO were going up to DC and my SiL would care for their wonderful rescue Goldie, Sandy. I was invited and agreed to make it a foursome - Sandy not being on the menu. I have to admit that it has been years since I had last eaten there, as I, among other teachers came to eat lunch for work days, planning and such. We got seated, and from the beginning it seemed that Chaos reigned. First of all plates came but no utensils until much later. Then two den sum came, but with not enough plates. Then meals came in strange orders. All the while we wondered as my daughter tried to call in the order but the person taking the order could not understand what was ordered so we stopped and drove to order at the restaurant. What I was given was not what I ordered - Shredded Pork with spicy garlic sauce, though my sister in law and I were able to trade. I had to agree what I found was not very tasty - hardly any heat and no attempt at garlic - in fact it was a bit off taste to me. This used to have an excellent buffet as well as beer and wine - as shown on the menu - and I enjoy a bottle of Chin Chou - but both buffet and beer and wine were gone. Sorry what seems to have happened.

Price going up quality way down from prior years

The boneless spare ribs were terrible they did not even look like Chinese barbecue sauce was on them and the bourbon chicken was awful actually inedible...we won’t be going back. They have signs all over the place about how highly rated they are those must’ve been from prior years because it’s not representative of what you get today.

Quality going down price going up

We have been going to this restaurant for many years but our visits are becoming less and less frequent the quality of the food keeps declining and the price keeps going up. They are obviously cutting every corner they can. It is so bad that even when you order $50 of food they are too cheap to give more than 3 soy sauce packets and 3 duck sauce!!! What do those cost...a penny for 100!!! They may believe they are saving money but they are losing customers!!!

Plenty of Food Here

Went here for dinner with my sister one night while visiting the family. The is a local restaurant nothing fancy about it. However service was good and we were well attended to. Food prices are very good and you have plenty to choice from. I had the combo box and I chicken chow mien and I was stuff when I left. Food was served HOT which is a good thing. They do offer brown rice for those that need to watch the carbs. It was a slow night when we went so I am not sure how it is when it is busy but all in all it was very good food and service.

Fortunate to have this restaurant in my neighborhood

My husband and I have enjoyed this restaurant for years. We always eat in and enjoy the freshly made house special recipes. We have so many favorites that it takes us forever to order. We usually select 3 dishes to share: one spicy, one vegetarian, and one low salt dish.

Palate Annihilation

I visited this charming facility located just outside of the Fox Hill area in the city of Hampton. The overall style and design of the facility is very retro. The atmosphere is sterile and introverted lacking even the most remote semblance of personality. The area is somewhat run down. Make sure you have great tires and shock absorbers as the parking lot could use some repaving. I searched all over Hampton-Roads to find someone offering garlic string beans and was elated when I found the dish at Good Fortune. I am not sure what I was served but it wasn't garlic string beans. The dish was loaded with grease and crushed red pepper. In fact, the string beans did not have even the slightest hint of garlic. The dish was not edible and was so bad that I wanted to give it back. To add insult to injury, there is an older Chinese woman there who I believe is the proprietor. She was most unpleasant; cold like the environment of the restaurant and unpalatable like the food. It was the worst experience ever of someone acting as if they were doing me a favor to give me awful food! A word of wisdom, in this climate you would do well to be more customer-centric and less 80's elitist. Fire the cook and the old lady. Two thumbs down for Good Fortune Chinese Restuarant!

Best Asian food

The food at Good Fortune is absolutely wonderful. It's the best place for chicken teriyaki I believe on the planet. Both my husband and I love the shrimp egg foo yong. We also often purchase the shrimp fried rice. Every dish we've ever tried has been top of the line. The prices are great for good size portions. This is definitely our favorite place for Asian food in the Hampton Roads area.
