I've eaten here three times since Royal Spice opened last year and I've never been disappointed! It is an amazing place to go!
Most recently I went with my husband on the night after Valentine's Day, which was a Saturday. The place was packed with only a few tables empty. The waitress didn't hesitate at all and seated us. I was sure we'd get slack service with such a busy restaurant, but our server, Kevin, was great! He made sure he knew how spicy we wanted our food. And our food was so delicious. I had the signature saag with goat and my hubby had the Royal Spice curry. He went with a 5 on spice and was sweating pretty heavy while eating... he thinks next time he'll have to go lighter on the spice level. But we both agreed that our meals were great. The chef came by twice to see how we enjoyed our meals... once when our food was first being served and later after we were almost finished. You definitely will not find that kind of service in most restaurants.
This place is very welcoming and beautiful. Not a fan of the tvs, but it seems most restaurants have them anymore. And make sure you go watch the kitchen thru the windows in the back. It's pretty neat to watch everyone's food being prepared. There are even tables there to dine at.

The friendly owners at Royal Spice used to offer Indian food at an old gas station/ convenience store in town, and everyone who's stopped there thought the same thing- this food is so good, why don't these folks open their own restaurant? Well, that time has come, and we are all the better for it. Royal Spice is located at 219 E. Main Street in 'Old Town', which is a pleasant oasis located in the heart of Front Royal, VA. The menu features many delicious Indian and Nepalese items, including the best samosas I've had anywhere. They also list daily specials like a whole chicken marinated and cooked in the Tandoor, as well as Masala fried shrimp, and some great potato sides, which are all cooked to perfection. For those who are a bit intimidated by Indian food, rest assured; the spice level (scale of 1-10) is dictated by you, the customer.
I'll typically order up the samosas, then either some spicy fried potatoes, or their delicious Aloo Tikki, (a potato pancake type dish, perfectly spiced), along with garlic and plain naan. I'll then choose my entree, which can be a beautiful curry, the always tempting Vindaloo, a tasty Biryani, or their succulent Tikka Masala dish, upon which I'll set the heat level firmly at a 5. It should be noted that every one of these dishes is top notch. The restaurant is very clean, with pleasant music playing quietly in the background, and features a fully stocked bar, which carries a lot of high end bottles, as well as all manner of beer, wine and mixed drinks. The service is very friendly, but they sometimes need reminders to keep that water glass filled. It's sometimes busy at Royal Spice, but when given some free time, the owner/ chef will come out and mingle with the guests, and he's always happy to take suggestions or exchange pleasantries.
Because they are located just a short walk from my worksite, I've become a regular customer, and have never been disappointed in any of my visits. It's good to have such a wonderful Indian / Nepalese restaurant so close to home!

This is the best Indian/Nepali food in town. Plus, a great value for your dollar. Took my daughter here after she had spent 6mos in India and wanted a veggie dinner. She loved it and said it was very authentic. I could make a meal just eating the samosa appetizers! If you're new to Indian sub-continent cuisine, don't worry about it being "too hot" they have a number scale for degrees of heat. Just start low and work up from there on your next visit-- because you will be back!

We stopped here for lunch after visiting the Luray Caverns. The town was very cute and easy to walk around. We stopped here based on reviews and we love Indian food. For the appetizer we got samosa chaat. My husband had the Royal Spice Signature Curry and I had the vegetarian korma with garlic naan. We enjoyed all of our food. It was clean inside and the service was friendly. It was enjoyable and not too busy. Would recommend!

For those who like this type of ethnic cuisine it is a place to try when in Front Royal. Brings nostalgia for the foothills of Himalayas...The food is very good and you can also do take out . The interior is simple but clean and pleasant. We will likely come back next time in Front Royal.

This just felt like a slipshod service experience. They didn’t have the dish I was looking forward to available, and I waited a very long time for my food. The lamb was very tough. I’m glad a place like this exists but I wouldn’t return.

We visited here after Luray Caverns and it was wonderful. I tried a mango lassi for the first time - totally terrific. All our dishes were served quickly and all were tasty. We tried 4 different naans - garlic was our favorite.

My husband picked this restaurant based on other TripAdvisor reviews, and it did not disappoint. The food was absolutely delicious and very well priced. We went on a Wednesday and a Friday. Both times, the food arrived quickly, and the service was on point. I loved their potato cakes, and the curry was wonderful. If you’re in the area, this restaurant is a must!

A friend recommended I try this place -- I am usually in the Front Royal area once a week. I had the Momo dumplings and then the Daal bean and lentil dish. I was very pleased and the ambiance was very nice. Much different than the old Wynn's Restaurant that used to be here in this space, although you'd be hard pressed to know it from the nice decorations and furnishings. Just a note that they prepare the dishes on a scale of 1 to 10 for spiciness -- I asked for 6 and it was quite spicy; if I had done 7 I'm not sure I could have managed. Overall a very good experience and I am looking forward to my return.

I know next to nothing about Indian/Nepalese food, so coming to Royal Spice was a new adventure. I've been here twice, and will definitely be coming back. First time was with a friend and I had chicken kabobs and really enjoyed them. Their naan bread is out of this world! Today friends and I did the lunch buffet (only available towards the end of each week - check their website for exact days), and it was a wonderful way to sample food I'd never even heard of. The Butter Chicken is now my absolute FAVORITE dish and the sauce makes my mouth water just thinking about it. The owner was really helpful in explaining all of the dishes and sauces. The restaurant itself has been transformed and is lovely. Eager to go back and loved the lunch buffet!!!

I know the owner personally.I was quite nervous when told me his plan to open this restaurant in this small town and I was also nervous whether he will be able to maintain the quality of food as he transitioned from his gas station. I have been going there every few weeks for last eight months and the food quality has in fact improved. They are flexible to adjust spices to your taste. It has also become my kids restaurant of choice go when they are back in town from college and they are very picky eaters.Hope they will stay around for long time.
