6/29/19 - We decided to go down Sat. night to eat dinner. Got there around 6:30ish, went in & sat down. The girl was waiting on people with take out orders. After she was done she would look @ us & go into the kitchen....She did this numerous times finally after about 15 mins of sitting there and being ignored, we left. This use to be such a good place to gather. Such good service & awesome food but not so much anymore. Hate to say but we won't be back. This was our 3rd and final straw!More

The buffet food is very basic and from frozen or canned items. We didn't feel too well after eating there. It wasn't too expensive though we would not go again.

Good sandwiches and burgers. The buffet has fried chicken or shrimp and roast beef, along with potatoes and veggies, soup, salad and dessert. The buffet varies on the type of veggies and potatoes. Very good food and lots of it.

Rays Rest has been there, a couple miles out of town, in some form, for many many years. Floyd has its "eclectic" places and has lost to offer around town but there's only one Hatcher Burger. Rays Rest, and Ray himself, are institutions. A good...locals bar on one side, and in the back you can bring the family. The buffet is there mainly weekends, and lateweek lunch. I prefer the reliable bar food, burgers and subs. Wings and cajun catfish. Cold beers. A loaded up hamburger steak aka called a Smitty. And a loaded up bourbon drink called a Smitty. Four stars for longevity alone. Good food, good folks, good times.More

From the outside you may think it's a place to drive on by. To locals who know better, the food is great the staff is amazing and the crowd diverse! Don't miss it!

Floyd, Va is a quirky place and Ray's is a long time local institution. On the outside it looks like a roadhouse dive. Not inviting from the outside and likely a place we'd have passed by on our own. Some members of the group we...were with had been and wanted to go for dinner and we reluctantly went along. Ray's has a hopping bar on the weekends but we didn't go to the bar so we can't comment on it. The restaurant is a stereotypical greasy spoon. The buffet line consisted of fried food, watery stew, and overcooked watery vegetables. We passed on the buffet and ordered the "famous" Hatcher burger - a large, relatively tasteless hamburger along with the recommended beer batter fries. The meal felt like a heavy weight in the stomach for several house after leaving the restaurant. Some of our friends in Floyd like this place, but we somehow missed the attraction.More

Rays has been a local bar/restaurant for many years. I've heard they have new ownership but menu seems the same. Known for their buffets I must admit I try to stay away from buffets 'cause I tend to overdo it! I very often get the...veggie sub which you can get a whole or half. The half is very large & filled with veggies, cheese & tomato sauce. Hubby usually likes their fried oyster sandwich but they were out so he had fried shrimp sandwich instead. We both enjoyed our 1/2 subs. Don't leave without the onion rings. Its very crowded on weekend nights and very loud so don't go for a romantic evening! People flock to the buffet so I'm sure its good! Buffet included fried chicken, fried fish of several varieties and the usual veggies.More

This place takes Greasy Spoon to a whole new level. Not very clean, either. The food must be from Industrial drums. Bland, greasy (sorry to be redundant), old. Fun for people-watching, and I haven't tried the bar. But definitely not for eating.

I went here on my lunch break one day and ordered a Hatcher burger, fries and a drink. My Mountain Dew would get half way empty and the waitress would refill it. She did this 4 times. The thing they don't tell you is they...charge for refills. A $10 meal ended up costing me $20. I will not return to a place that hides cost and sneaks refill prices on my ticket. Although the little country girl waitress was hot as hell ha ha.More

Definitely a local place. Don't expect everything. The wings are good. Pool tables available. Smoking allowed even by the bartender. It is what it is. Would return again.
