It's extremely rare for me to give 1 star but I'm not going to pad this in any way because this is exactly what they deserve. In no particular order: * We arrived about 2.45PM and they were mopping the floor with some very bleachy-smelling...solution that was wayyy too strong to be used in a restaurant during open house. We discussed walking out but had been driving for almost 2 hours and needed some food & decided to stick with it. * There was only ONE other table seated when we arrived. A staff member greeted us after a couple of mins and asked for our drink order. We asked a hot tea and two waters. 5 mins later no drinks still. Another 5 mins and a different person brought us our two waters but no hot tea. *12 mins after we placed the drink order the hot tea arrives & only then did they take our food order. We ordered a few of our usual sushi go-to items: SUSHI: Yellowtail, Tuna, Eel SHRIMP TEMPURA SEAFOOD RAMEN Tempura: I've been eating Japanese tempura since the late 1970's. I knew as soon as I took my first bite this place uses a cheap and nasty pre-battered frozen shrimp. I work in the foodservice industry and you see this stuff all over the place now unfortunately and lower-end 'japanese' restaurants and it's just not very good . The texture of a frozen tempura shrimp bears almost no resemblance to a fresh hand-dipped tempura. The shrimp also had faint ammonia smell to it and was almost inedible. It's also been prepared on a skewer and is perfectly straight, and unnatural, which is not the way fresh hand dipped tempura comes out. The Yellowtail sushi was clearly frozen previously. Some fish can still be good if flash frozen and thawed properly, but in general sushi should be FRESH FISH, and then was not. It was watery, mushy and had strings of muscle that are common in the cheapest cuts of 'sushi' fish, rather than the tender loin cuts that are pure meat and no connective tissue. Tuna wasn't as bad but still less than optimal. Eel was the only one of the 3 that was just OK. I mean eel is frozen anyway, and you have to really screw up to make it inedible. The seafood ramen was the only dish that we had that actually had good flavor and a nice selection of seafood. SERVICE: A fairly young guy of maybe early 20's took our food order but some girl delivered it. After the food was served the guy, our 'waiter' NEVER ONCE came back to the table. Instead he sat down in the booth RIGHT NESIDE OURS and was watching some kind of video on his phone the entire time we are, even though our water glasses and hot team were empty. He never checked to see how we were doing, or ask if the food was good - NOTHING but watching his very important video. THREE TABLES in the restaurant, and we can't get a refill on our water? I'm really just disgusted even taking the time to write this but it's not fair to keep people from spending their hard-earned money at a place that isn't even TRYING to do the basics. I get it that this place chooses to take shortcuts on the quality of the food they serve, but at least back it up with solid, friendly service and you might have a chance. But this was beyond insulting and I will never ever go back again. I work too hard to blow money on this type of slop.More

Pretty good rolls. Have eaten in and ordered out. Consistent preparation; never gotten bad food from them.

Although we like this place, we had some good experience with fhe sushi except last time where all the cucumbers in all of our rolls were bitter and might be rotten so we couldn't eat it. Our feedback from the restaurant: "cucumbers are fine, thank...you for letting us know" This is how you loose a customer..More

I've been here multiple times and ordered from food delivery services as well and the food was always perfect. The sushi is always still fresh and the rolls are packed tight enough to be perfect for one bite. Beautifully plated and fairly quickly made when...in the restaurant and well packed and still delicious when ordered delivered. Some of the entrees come with miso soup or salad or both and the soup is warm and inviting and the salad's sauce is so good! My friend and I came in 15 minutes past 3 last week as we are high school students and they were super friendly and still let us order off their lunch menu which ended at 3, and the prices are reasonable. They have vegetarian rolls and other dishes besides sushi as well. Love this place! Definitely eating here again.More

My date and I went last Sunday afternoon to try out a new place (new to us), and we were very pleasantly surprised. We ordered the Love Boat for Two (10 pieces sushi, 21 pieces sashimi and 2 special roll). It's a chef's choice, and...being new to Waraku, we were glad for that after a beautifully prepared large dish of sushi and sashimi was brought to our table. I'd say it was too pretty to eat, but we devoured it. The host was very friendly. Good service, better company, fantastic food! A combo worth revisiting.More

Explored new sushi restaurant in Fairfax recommended by friend. It was awesome. Host was very nice and known to us from another sushi spot. Place is new so not very crowded yet. Appetizers were great. Sushi love boat for two was great. Pieces of fish...was 2-3 times the size of the rice and at other places. Sushi was fresh as was the Uni. Dessert was refreshing. Would definitely recommend at top 5 sushi in Fairfax/Annandale/Vienna area!More

Very fresh sashimi with a lot of variety of different fish pieces. I highly recommend for sashimi lovers. Gaius, the manager, was very helpful and friendly.

Ever since Warku first opened it has been a decent place for sushi but recent visits over some months the sushi has been prepared a loose and sloppy, to the extent it falls apart before you can get it in your mouth. I’m just a...little disappointed in my recent visits that I must take a break from Warku. Last visit they had 2 or maybe 3 loudly playing TVs and music on different stations and it was difficult to have any thought let alone conversation.More

Waraku is an excellent addition to the Twinbrooke Center by bringing Japanese sushi to our area, next to its Chinese and Vietnamese neighbors. I've tried it three times so far (recently opened) and the quality of the offerings is excellent. The take out is efficient,...and the dining area looks very welcoming. Worth trying!!More

Have gone to this place a few times and never been disappointed. The food has been excellent, sushi fresh, poke bowls wonderful. The owner was asked to participate in a community food event and was nice enough to supply the event with wonderful sushi. Definitely...go and support this local gem.More

I was very impressed with this new sushi restaurant in the shopping center for the service and the unique combination of sushi styles. Service was attentive. The sushi fresh. We ordered Miso soup and salad with dancing (chefs selection) and volcano sushi from the menu....They do have selections of bowls for non sushi eaters. They do not have an ABC license that I could tell. Atmosphere is clean but not warm as this location is a tiny strip store. Everything remodeled however and clean.More
