This place must be popular with the locals but it does not have a lot going for it. Nearly every table was filled on a Monday night and we had to wait for one to open before we could be seated. They have standard Mexican...fare; there was nothing unique on the menu to distinguish this restaurant as a “good find,” although the entrée prices are a dollar or two more than I am used to paying elsewhere in Virginia. The “grilled tacos” were amply filled with meat and salsa, making them a bit difficult to handle, but the menu said that they were served with rice and beans, but I was offered a choice of rice or beans or salad. I opted for the “salad” and found it to be merely a small plate of shredded iceberg lettuce with some diced tomatoes and a dollop of sour cream. The carnitas did not have all the fat rendered off the meat as I am used to experiencing. Soft drinks come with only one refill. I will pass this place by next time.More

We wanted Mexican one night on our beach trip and came across this gem right on the side of the road in eastville virginia. This place is right up the road from the KOA we were camping at. The food here is wonderful. They have...online ordering so you can order and drive right there for pickup. I've read other reviews stating the portion sizes were small but that was not our experience. The salsa is made right there and was delicious. It's a good diners, drive ins and dives kind of place. You won't be disappointed.More

Rude and Inflexible. I should’ve known when they had a sign saying the patio was open but yet when I asked to eat outside on the patio the man who is seated us, I believe the manager, sort of just grunted that that was not...an option. Mexican food is my absolute favorite food in my entire life. I eat it any chance I get so it’s not like I’m some green girl who doesn’t know about it. However, this was far spicier than any Mexican restaurant I’ve ever been to. My daughter and I both took one bite of each of our food and could not finish it due to the fact that it was so spicy. I brought that to the waitresses attention and her first response was “you need to pay for it.” I thought about ordering something else but I wanted to ask if everything was going to be quite that spicy. I tried to ask her if I choose enchilada would be spicy And she just kept going over how I would have to pay for the ones I did not eat and just seem confrontational because when I asked for a cheese enchilada, she then said “yes but what kind would you want.” I tried to complain to the manager and I was simply met with again the idea that I would have to pay for it. Completely through $25 down the drain. The manager even was rude enough to say to me that we could take our food home. I said I did not want to and he use that as justification for the fact that I would have to pay for it. I’ve never been to a restaurant where you complained about your food and got no concessions made whatsoever. I’m not asking for a free meal but I truly did not eat it. Why would I go into a restaurant to scam them to get a free meal which I then would not eat. Obviously the food was unacceptable. Buyer beware.More

My wife placed a online order, as we pulled into the parking lot of the Eastville location, we received an email stating the order could be picked up at the Onley location - which is 30 miles away. Assuming we made a mistake, sucked it...up and made the drive. Come to find out the email was wrong, it was at the intended restaurant, both locations felt sorry that we drove an extra 60 miles for the food but that was it. Once we picked up the food it had to be reheated at home.More

This was our biggest mistake on a short visit to Cape Charles. We were looking for a place with some vegetarian options and this was one of the few restaurants open in the neighborhood. The worst Mexican food we've had in memory. Everything seemed to...come from a can or out of the freezer. Mostly tasteless dishes. They get 2 stars because they had Dos Eques beer. Overall, the Don Valerios was a classic dump.lMore

Short wait to be seated...place was full ! As most...others have said....the food was good and the servers very friendly. Would definitely recommend even though it doesn’t look like much from the outside😉More

The best Mexican Restaurant I have attended. The food is awesome. The beef fajita is excellent, hot, moist and sautéed everything. Management and staff very friendly and respectful.

Have been visiting Don Valerios for many years while camping on the Eastern Shore. Never been disappointed. The food is excellent and so is the service. During our latest outing, there was a very large group taking up about half the restaurant so the wait...staff was extremely busy. But our order was taken promptly and delivered just as fast. Had to wait a few minutes for two beers and the waiter comped them along with a flan dessert. So nice of them, but not necessary. You have to try this place when in Eastville.More

Yes, this out of the way place in Virginia is the real deal when it comes to Mexican (even Tex-Mex) food. Everything about Don Valerios is legit -- from the decor to the music to the staff to the food. The menu is varied, the...service is efficient, the portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable. The food? Yes, the food is good too. I do have to issue a disclaimer here (and the reason for a 3/5 rating): I had the carnitas (again, on the recommendation of another popular online review site (I've got to stop looking at that site for guidance)), and they were so salty as to be inedible. If only they had tasted as good as they looked! Luckily my wife could not finish her chicken quesadillas, so I did (and they were excellent). All in all, we're glad we stopped here, and you will be too (just be careful of those online reviews).More

We decided to get takeout from here not expecting much. However, the quality was fantastic! We know the area is limited in supplies but everything fit perfectly into the meal.

Raymundo and Cecelia both make you feel welcome the minute you walk in. A friendly greeting and a smile. Near Cape Charles on Route 13, Don Valerios is one of our new favorites. The food is excellent, and the prices are super reasonable. Lots of locals eat there. It's not fancy inside and isn't what you would consider "fine dining," but the food and...drinks are great. Highly recommend.More

We returned to Don Valerios and were slightly disappointed. Although the portions were large and the food was good average roadside Mexican, it was not served hot. The inside of my enchiladas were barely warm. The service was fair. I'd still go back, but I'd...tell the server to please make sure my food was hot.More

Don Valerios is a very friendly, fun place to head to for some extraordinarily large Margaritas - if you so desire - and some pretty good Mexican food at reasonable prices. We love it.
