Visiting the area from Massachusetts to have a special birthday dinner for our granddaughter at Virginia Tech. None of us had been here before but on a Sunday evening we were made to feel special. The waitress was ready to accommodate us on the patio, on the porch, or in the dining room, even though outside places had not been set up. We were made to feel that we were in charge and special. The waitress couldn't have been finer. She shared with us that she had an advanced degree and her manner was appropriately refined, knowledgeable, friendly, and informative, not pompous at all. We ordered local wines by the glass, oysters rockefeller and fried oysters, entrees of filet mignon, crab cakes, and veal stroganoff. All were superbly prepared and presented. Our birthday girl was delighted as were we. The restaurant surprised us by offering her a complimentary dessert which she took back to campus "to go". The setting was warm and inviting. We were thrilled with our experience. We would love to return - perhaps at graduation some years hence! The Fairfield where we were staying declared on their website that coat and tie are required. That is not the case as I confirmed before arrival. While casual, other patrons were appropriately attired, as were we. Summit and Fairfield should collaborate to correct this misinformation. My granddaughter believes this is the best restaurant in the Blacksburg/Christiansburg area.

We phoned ahead to make a reservation for a Wednesday night dinner for a special occasion here in late April. We needn't have bothered, the restaurant was nearly deserted. Only three other tables were occupied, all of us in a single room because there was no need to access the other rooms (each room in the house holds about 6-8 tables). While the interior decor was Victorian and lovely, the exterior was a bit shabby (needs lots of paint) and not appealing from the curb. The service was a bit too informal for a fine dining restaurant. The wine list was not very good. I had to read the menu for quite a while before finally choosing a chicken dish that I was willing to try. Food seemed only average, and not gourmet quality. Best item: apple rutabager soup (that's how she pronounced it).

The restaurant is in an old house. Can't say I love the wall paper, but the service and the food were both outstanding. I had good wine with my meal, but the list of wines by the glass was *very* short. Lovely fire in the fireplace. Crabcakes were fantastic, as was the creme brulee. Would definitely return.

Being a college town , that was getting ready for a big football game, we were lucky to find a place to eat that didn't require a wait. We were a bit early but the hostess said we could eat before they got busy. The place was old victorian style and very classy. We had one of the best salads we have eaten. It came with complementary Pumpkin soup and the bread was just out of the oven. Delicious. By the time we left the place was really busy but we were not rushed.Service and food was very good.

The Summit is a great restaurant in downtown Christiansburg. Perfect for a special occasion or date night- delicious food (I love the Polenta with Portabella and The Swan).

Pleasant, mostly relaxed (room was a bit small, but fine) dinner with friends. Service was excellent and the meal excellent. Owners have done a fine job of restoring this historic old Christiansburg home, 'Diamond Hill.'

We were visiting Va Tech and looking for a nice dinner. After reading the reviews we decided to try the Summit. It is in an old house that has been restored and looks very nice inside. The larger rooms on the main level serve as the dining area. We were seated in the front room. Our server seemed "forced polite", and behaved as if she was only going through the motions. She was not friendly nor was she unfriendly. We ordered drinks and our meal. Our server brought out complementary cups of pumpkin soup which was very good and very warm (we were still warming up from the cold outside). Next she brought out our appetizer - the crab stuffed oysters - which were very good and very rich. I noticed that the fireplaces in each of the other rooms were lit so I asked our server to light the fireplace in our room. She said she would ask if that could be done. After several minutes she didn't say anything about it and never lit the fireplace and another couple was seated. When I followed up with our server she said the other couple asked to be seated in a room without the fireplace being lit. I have two issues with this. One we asked before this other couple came into the restaurant, and two she didn't have the courtesy to tell me. Our server brought out our entrees - I had the rack of lamb and my wife had the shrimp and scallops with angel hair pasta. I would say the lamb was cooked and seasoned very well though my rice and string beans were completely uninspired. The beans were overcooked and soggy. My wife said her shrimp and scallops were good (not great), and she also had the same opinion of the beans that I did. We both decided to skip dessert though we each did have a nicely brewed cup of coffee. Overall our experience was OK/good. The food was generally very good with some misses, and while our server was "nice" (there was nothing wrong but something was not quite right) the whole fireplace question also left a sour taste with me.

This was my first time here, after having heard of the restaurant four years ago. I was expecting a very special occasion due to the high price tag, and our 11th wedding anniversary was the chosen one. I have only to say that I regret having missed such a culinary pleasure for four years! This was the best dinning experience we had for a long time. Everything was prepared to perfection (duck with raspberry sauce and stuffed chicken with apricots), the portions were very generous considering the upper class dishes, the atmosphere was fantastic and designed to the last detail (tapestry, curtains, furniture, lighting, music... everything), and the service impeccable (great service manners, dress code, silverware, plates, complimentary soup). There's really not much more to ask for a place like this. We've traveled and dinned at numerous places around Europe and US cities, and the Summit can really stand out in every one of them. Absolutely recommended for any special occasion where paying something extra is worth every penny!

Visited The Summit on a Sunday night, before the Virginia Tech vs Ohio State opening season 2015 game. We knew Blacksburg restaurants would be booked, so we made 7:00 reservations at The Summit. We were seated timely, service was fairly good. Food was good (one entree was cold, but they quickly reheated it). Our server was obviously stressed. We overheard him telling another server (as he helped her set up another table) that his order (ours) was up & he needed to get it served. Overall, I think the restaurant had too few servers & kitchen staff. They easily could have been full this evening. Quality was good, so either poor management or desire to stay small with good quality, rather than full house, was their goal. I probably will go back, but definitely not a "must"!

We had a wedding shower for a dear friend at the Summit Restaurant on a recent Saturday afternoon. We made the arrangements about two weeks ago and scheduled it before their dinner hour. We were a party of about 15. If you have never been to the Summit before, it is a beautiful Victorian home overlooking a very peaceful section of Christiansburg. It really was a perfect setting to make this event so special. We had appetizers which were so delicious. I especially loved the salmon on toast with a dill sauce and capers. There was also a spinach pastry which was very tasty. The waitress was most kind and helpful. The chef/owner was very attentive and wanted to make sure we were satisfied. I really would recommend you to consider having a special event of this nature at the Summit.

Very upscale and cozy place to dine. A good place for a special occasion. Try their soups. This is not cheap but for the area, it is worth it.
