So good! We ordered fresh oysters, fried oysters, and the seafood platter to go with us to eat on the beach (at nearby Tom’s Cove). Definitely worth it. Quick and friendly service, too. We brought a cooler, as they didn’t put the cold food on ice.

Capt. Zach's really has some of the best food on the island. All kinds of fresh seafood and veggies. I am gluten free, and I could make a meal just on their steamed broccoli and corn. My family likes the crab/crabcakes. Unfortunately, they are super busy and have limited hours so a wait of an hour and a half is not unusual. Plan ahead, get there early, or take something to do while you wait. The food is worth waiting for but VERY frustrating if you don't have the time.

We had the seafood basket for two. It was $32 and had enough fish, shrimp, clam, crab, and oysters to feed four (easy). The sides were just homemade from heaven. The ordering site was very easy to use and the meal showed up with ten minutes of the chosen time. This is THE place to get your SEAFOOD ON in Chincoteague. Thank you Zack.

We had lunch from Captain Zach's when we arrived in town on Friday. Crab sandwich was excellent! We then ordered dinner take out dinner on Sunday evening and unfortunately the wait was close to 3 hours. When we called they were honest in saying it would be minimum of two if not longer. Food was good again but hard to wait so long for dinner. I would definitely recommend when visiting the island.

We were in Chincoteague for a couple of weeks and when we had a bunch of friends stay with us for a while we decided to do a seafood buffet with all sorts of items from Capt Zacks. We ordered a wide variety from the menu and spread it out on the table and everyone got to try a nice assortment. It was ALL good. Best of all were the fried Oysters. So many times on the island we get them and they are totally overcooked. These were done perfectly - nice and juicy and full of flavor. Another standout was the hushpuppies. Best flavor of any in the area!!!
We knew that with Covid and staff shortages that timing could be an issue so we ordered way ahead for pickup and it was all ready as requested.
These people sure do know how to do seafood right!

Call in and order ahead! The restaurant is only offering carryout right now, but still very busy. We put our order in around 6pm, but didn't get food until 7:30pm. But, it well worth the wait! The crabcake is fresh and cooked perfectly, literally feel the cheers from my stomach! My husband ordered oyster and fish tacos, large portion, fresh meat and nicely balanced veggie! Everything takes sooo good! I have decided to go back for lunch already!

Horrible customer service and terrible food. Called my order in and was told it would be an hour. Showed up an hour later, paid, gave a 20% tip which I highly regret, and nicely asked if they knew about how much longer it would be. She rolled her eyes and very rudely said "I dont know, I don't know when you called it in". I tell her a little over an hour ago and was given an hour estimate, to which she snapped back "well its not ready" and turned away from me. We sat outside for another 30 minutes when it started pouring rain. They had said they would call my phone when it was ready so we went to sit in our car. About 15 min later (now an hour and 45 min after I called) we see them bring up a bag of food, but no one comes to get it. Thinking it could be mine and they took my number down wrong, I gave a call to see if my food was ready. She snapped at me"no!" And hung up. At this point I was ready to ask for a refund, but about 15 min later they called and said our order was ready, which WAS the bag that had been sitting there. We waited 2 hours for food that was supposed to take 1 hour, it was luke warm, rubbery, and flavorless, and WAY overpriced. I normally don't bother with leaving reviews but the rudeness of these people was so upsetting that I had to leave a review. And I noticed they were rude to every customer that showed up so it wasn't just us. I dont understand the good reviews this place has. Don't waste your time unless you enjoy being treated horribly and eating awful food.

This restaurant came highly recommended by the Chamber of Commerce and online reviews. Both the online menu and paper menu state "Gluten Free Available, Ask Server." Since it's a carry-out only establishment, I was a little confused about the server part, so I called and asked. A grouchy woman answered the phone and said she had to ask the "chef." She then said "everything that's steamed or grilled" and I overheard her say to another customer that it was a two-hour wait. So I confirmed that the wait was indeed two hours (it was 5pm) and said I couldn't wait and she hung up on me.
I called back at 3pm the next day, asked when I needed to order to get food at 5:20pm. The same woman as the day before replied "right this minute." I ordered and reiterated that the Grilled Cod platter was to be absolutely gluten free and I asked if the "seasoned" vegetables were also GF, she replied, "I assume." Long story short, they grilled the cod on a dirty nasty grill because it had pieces and parts of other fish on it, and then dumped hushpuppies on top of it in the to-go box. Get a clue people. My MIL subsequently couldn't eat the meal that she actually paid for for the whole family. Don't offer Gluten Free options unless you realize that for some people it's more than just a lifestyle choice.

This place was simply just ok. We were told it would be an hour and a half to 2 hour wait (which is insane, but we were ok with it. We simply left and got a pretzel from Auntie Anne’s to hold us over and went for a drive around Assateague til it was ready). Some of our food was good and some was not. The fries were cold and soggy. The hush puppies were good! The pizza was good, but nothing special. Burger was average. Crab legs were good but overpriced. Crab cake was awful. It says in all caps on the menu that there’s no filler and it’s all crab meat. This is a joke!!! Lots of filler and little stringy pieces of meat. No lump meat at all. For $18.99 this was so disappointing. The food was all edible, but not very good and too expensive. We paid $100 for 4 people for mediocre food, slow service, and rude people who worked there.

We checked in to our hotel after a 5.5 hr drive (normally 3.75 hr). Hungry but too wiped to go out at that point, we called Capt Zach’s for delivery. Took over 20 calls until we finally got through, and were told it’d be over 2 hrs for delivery (same for pickup so we stuck with delivery). It was Saturday night, summertime, and someone would bring out food right to our hotel room, so this was completely okay with us! Food arrived about 2.5 hrs later. Driver was nice and we were happy to see him :). The food… scallop and crab quesadilla, shrimp tacos, and the local’s scow (fried oysters and clam strips). Everything was hot enough to eat and fabulous! The quesadillas and tacos came with fries and hush puppies, which were the best I’ve had. More than the 2 of us could eat so plenty of leftovers.
Highly recommend this place, and be patient. It’s worth it!

Captain Zack’s Seafood is a place we happily frequent during our annual trips to Chincoteague. Best for takeout or delivery, Captain Zack’s has a fairly extensive menu that includes platters, baskets, sandwiches, and sides (i.e. something for everyone). Overall, the seafood is delicious. Captain Zack’s prepares many of its offerings (e.g., fish, crab cakes, and scallops) three ways: Fried, grilled, or blackened. The crab cakes (prepared any way) are some of the best across the entire Eastern Shore. Equally good are the local oysters and clams (raw or steamed). Aside from the excellent hushpuppies, the side dishes are solid. Non seafood dishes (e.g., burgers and pizzas), aren’t bad, but nothing to write home about.
If you‘re in Chincoteague and like seafood, don’t miss Captain Zack’s.

After reading so many great reviews about Captain Zack's, we tried it and everyone's food was delicious. From the crab cakes, to shrimp, to fish tacos to the sweet potato fries and the hushpuppies, everyone had full, happy bellies. The portions were large and we had leftovers for lunch the next day!

Great atmosphere and overall friendly staff. Service time and food quality however could be improved. We ordered grilled cheese and chicken tenders for our kids and fish and a poboy and waited over an hour for our food. Our waitress was not attentive and had to be flagged down or found multiple times. Mahi was dry and the fried Mac and cheese bites were literally kraft easy mac friend for $10. I would go there for happy hour, but not to eat again.

I had my first meal there this year; it will not be my last.
I had the crabby bites special with macaroni salad and hush puppies. Everything was delicious.
All their seafood is delicious and they serve the best hush puppies on the island.
Service is always friendly.

As a person who have been a part-time resident on Chincoteague Island for over 50 years, I must say these are among the hardest working women on the island. The place is a "take-out only" for now and the kitchen is a super hot sweat shop. The business gets swamped at certain times of the summer season...that is why you see 2 hour waits in some of the reviews. As an example, I tried calling there tonight for an order and they could not answer the phone on either line. I then went there in person to order and they said there was a 2 hour wait so I went to Ocean Deli. I don't know what kind of help issues they have but I would imagine it is hard getting people to work in such a hot kitchen that gets super busy in the summer. They are building a new section which will be a sit down restaurant but they better learn how to manage their business first. The prices are not cheap and about the same as the good restaurants in town. The difference is that the other restaurants are sit down places that offer way more food options and better service. Captain Zacks only offers fried and grilled food options but not broiled. They also have an online option for ordering which did not work the last time I tried. Their online options indicates that they do deliver but I never tried that option and cannot imagine how they could deliver when they get super busy. With all of this being said, I find that Captain Zack's has the best tasting food on the island. What I don't like is they don't have broiled seafood options. My favorite foods are their crab cakes and hush puppies. I consider their hush puppies the "gold" standard and the best on the planet. In fact, I always judge other places that make hush puppies with Captain Zack's hush puppies. So to summarize, I give Captain Zacks 5 stars as far as their foods and 2 to 3 stars as far as their business management. My approach with them at this point is to call my order in earlier in the day (before 5 ) on weekends and holidays and expect a one to two hour wait. Hopefully they will get it together once they open their sit down restaurant.
