Polite and quick service, wide menu selection, and tasty food for pretty cheap: what more can you ask for? I came in hankering for cornbread and that was a good decision.

If you have an appetite for some down home soul cooking the Mel's is the place to be! Chicken and greens are both finger lickin' good! Will definitely visit here again on my way back home.

So don't go to Mel's if you like your tables and menus squeaky clean-- they won't be. A little grime is part of the atmosphere here, and Mel is way too busy manning the grill to worry about a little sticky on the table. I love the place. My husband loves the place. Low- key, totally unpretentious, inexpensive and as... More

Parking isn't great here - there are three spots out front, but mostly it's street parking. The decor isn't much to talk about (although there's some cool Redskins stuff). And it certainly isn't gourmet dining. It IS delicious, mostly Southern comfort food served by genuinely kind, welcoming people. It's a bit like inviting yourself to dinner at your best friend's... Decided to try this solely on Trip Advisor feedback as we were just in town for one day. It is underwhelming on the outside, but don't judge a book by it's cover. Once inside you are warmly greeted and your order is promptly taken at the counter which you will pay for after you eat. I ordered the fried chicken... More

The food is cheap and tastes okay. Don't expect much more than that. Place could use a bit of a sprucing and cleaning.Service was ok. If you're looking for cheap and okay this is the spot for you.

What a pleasant surprise Mel's was. Not a big place, but big enough. Order at the counter and then served it was DELICIOUS!!!! I had the fried chicken mac and cheese and cabbage. So fresh and good. The gentlemen that work there are very pleasant and accommodating. You must have the fried donut and icecream for dessert. Mel's is not to... More
