My wife and I stopped at Mel's Café on Friday afternoon to see for ourselves if the good reviews were accurate and indeed they were. We each had the three piece fried chicken dinner with two sides at a very reasonable price. The fried chicken was made to order and came out hot and crisp. The owner's wife visited with... More

We had a fabulous breakfast at Mel's! The environment was friendly and casual and the staff were very welcoming. We were in and out in 30 minutes and only spent $20.00 for two full meals. Loved the fried potatoes! We would highly recommend it to others.

Wow! Don't let the outside keep you from the inside! The food was delicious and the staff was extremely friendly. The cornbread was some of the best we have eaten in our travels. We tried to convince them to move the restaurant to NC so we could visit more often!

The chicken is to die for. And if you love fried fish, get it with the greens and fried potatoes. Not a damned thing healthy about Mels except the warm greetings and comfort food you find there! ENJOY!

Looked for a good family restaurant at reasonable prices to meet our daughter's family for a birthday lunch. We found the right place! Food was excellent and very fairly priced. The service was great. The staff was friendly and welcoming. If you want great home cooked food at non bank breaking prices, this is the place! They have a wide... More

Had the night to myself and decided to get a sit-down dinner. Mels was just 3 miles from here and had pretty good reviews so I decided to give it a try. Doesn't look like much but what a friendly place and the food was good too. I had liver & onions, mashed potatoes and green beans. Added a slice... More

Polite and quick service, wide menu selection, and tasty food for pretty cheap: what more can you ask for? I came in hankering for cornbread and that was a good decision.

If you have an appetite for some down home soul cooking the Mel's is the place to be! Chicken and greens are both finger lickin' good! Will definitely visit here again on my way back home.

So don't go to Mel's if you like your tables and menus squeaky clean-- they won't be. A little grime is part of the atmosphere here, and Mel is way too busy manning the grill to worry about a little sticky on the table. I love the place. My husband loves the place. Low- key, totally unpretentious, inexpensive and as... More

Parking isn't great here - there are three spots out front, but mostly it's street parking. The decor isn't much to talk about (although there's some cool Redskins stuff). And it certainly isn't gourmet dining. It IS delicious, mostly Southern comfort food served by genuinely kind, welcoming people. It's a bit like inviting yourself to dinner at your best friend's...
