Stopped here about 6pm for take out. Ordered one dish and soup for two. And we waited, and waited, and waited. Two tables were occupied in the restaurant. Phone was ringing off the hook, folks crowding in the door waiting to order take out or...be seated. And all of the staff were in the back (two...maybe three?)--leaving no one to tend to the waiting customers! Our takeout took twenty minutes. Heaven help the folks waiting. The food was just ok--hot and sour soup--different, but good. This place is not ready for prime time--not enough staff!. And the restaurant is quieter than a morgue. No atmosphere. Turn the music up a bit folks--you can hear everybody's conversation!More
I was not greeted and the hostess had a bit of an attitude, especially when I ordered take out. She did not include napkins or utensils. I got the soup option with the lunch special, and it was barely 1/3 of a cup. The dish...was heavy on "filler" and light on protein. Definitely not worth the price. This is not the first time I have ordered take out there, but it is the last.More
This is Crozet's second best Chinese restaurant, which is not exactly high praise. The carryout place downtown, although no great shakes, does better versions of the standby dishes we order in this family. Thai '99 across the street is also better.
Tea House staff very friendly. I have recently done take out there and really enough a few of their staple dishes like Sesame Tofu, Moo Shoo Pork and Sautéed Green Beans. Delicious. Wasn't crazy about a chicken with broccoli. Service is fast.
We love coming here or ordering to go. We love miso soup and sushi, as well as some entree items. It's very affordable and tasty! Crozet is small, but we do have great restaurants here. My husband and I do not cook very often since...we became parents, just not enough time, so a place like this helps a lot :)More
I've lived in Crozet for 17 years. When Tea House first opened, I was really impressed (moved here from San Francisco, where some of the best Chinese food in the world can be had. We also knew the family that owned the restaurant). But within...the last couple of years, the quality of its cuisine has deteriorated to the point where I most likely won't be going back again. The meat and chicken have become tougher, either due to the quality of the material or the cooking technique. In the beef with broccoli I recently ordered, the meat was tough and chewy with a mealy sense of cornstarch on the exterior. Even the crispy honey twin has been becoming less crispy and more soggy (oil not hot enough?). The food is either too bland or over-seasoned (the cumin beef tasted like a whole tin of cumin was dumped into the wok). The lo mein has become consistently tainted with the taste of browned garlic (although I usually love the "stinking rose"). Over time, the owners have cut back on the amount of beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, etc. in the dishes. Hey, Tea House owners, you're charging an average of about $13 per entree in Crozet, not high-rent Charlottesville, D.C., N.Y., or S.F.; it's beef with vegetables, not the other way around. Tea House food is now not much better than the frozen P.F. Chang's or the other lines of pre-packaged stuff at the supermarket.More
