I had talked with the Clifton Inn three times about our reservation confirming a mix of one regular diner plus two vegetarian diners. Each time they assured me the vegetarian diners were not a problem. When we arrived, the waitress said they didn't have a vegetarian option, but they could give us a plate of sides from the other dinners.... More

Our family was the first to sit in the kitchen with the new chef, Aris. After ordering our entrees we were delighted with a plate of pickled vegetables, using star anise and cinnamon, and an amuse bouche of watermelon, feta and mint that brought nuanced flavor to the tongue at different moments! The scallops were perfectly cooked through, the steak... More

Pleasant and gracious, the food is cutesy--said advisedly--so that multiple plates of miniscule portions result in your departure with you not knowing what you ate, and you are hungry! For a lofty dollar as well. This historic place needs to shake itself and start serving substantial, real food.

My son and daughter-in-law brought me to the Clifton Inn for a special treat. We ate on the back veranda on a lovely day. Nice experience, though I have enjoyed my food other times in other local restaurants bit more. The menu is not as varied as I would have liked, though each of us chose something that was pleasing.... More

If you are going to stay here for the first time I'm sure it will be a wonderful experience. Accommodations are great, location and surrounding area a gift from the Gods. However if you are from the area and live good food this is not the place. Not because the food they present isn't good and it certainly is presented... More

Out in the countryside, this place is way cool. Would like to come back and stay at the Inn. There was a big thunderstorm that evening and we lost power several times but no one missed a beat. Great original food although the portions are a bit small for the price. Good wine selection. Terrific service. Reservations needed a few... More

The Clifton Inn is really a lovely experience with attentive service and generous details. We stayed in the Merriweather Lewis room, one of the ground floor rooms in the restored stables adjacent to the main house. The room was charming, with stone floors, a fireplace, and a claw tub (in addition to a separate shower). Full afternoon tea and continental... More

My wife and I ordered the four-course meal with wine pairings. The rack of lamb was perfectly prepared, and the cauliflower vichyssoise with oyster mushrooms was superb.

We had a lovely dinner at this hotel, a former member of Relais & Chateaux, so we knew we were in for a lovely meal, and indeed it was although service was a tad slow, but the food was delicious and well worth going to.
