My party of six was seated promptly. There were about ten parties in the restaurant, with several areas open. These days I just blame Covid for most things, but we were three couples and were seated in a booth, even though tables were available. The...section may have been closed, but with three couples, three on a side is not only close, but means one couple has to separate. It would have been good to ask for a preference on table or booth.
The service was a frustration. Our booth only had three settings when seated. The waitress arrived with three waters. Everyone said they'd like water, but the waitress insisted on asking for appetizer and drink orders even though we'd just been seated and were obviously looking at the downloaded menus. She came back several minutes later with three more waters. When our appetizers arrived, the food runner didn't bring any side plates, nor did we have enough utensils or napkins. More than once, we asked the waitress for something and instead of getting it, she would bus tables or do other sidework, sometimes with other servers, making us wait on the request.
The food was tasty and attractively plated. Foodrunners are killing service. Every meal out is a food auction when the plates arrive. Who had the ...., ok, and who had the..., at $14.00 for a burger they are charging good service prices, but not delivering. The annoyance came when the check arrived. My wife ordered a salad and asked to have chicken added. The waitress said there would be a small upcharge. The small upcharge was $10.00 on a $9.00 salad. My daughter ordered the Monterrey Salad, but asked to change the fried chicken for grilled. The upcharge for that was $4.00. We now know Sweetwater's policy, but the waitress should have been more specific about an upcharge that is more than the item.
Overall we were disappointed. The food was good, but it and the service did not match the price. I can't say we'd return. There are just too many other options that where food, price, and service are in-line.More
I typically am never disappointed when I dine at Sweetwater. However I was disappointed this time. We went with another couple - I was excited that we could reserve the patio seating and was looking forward to only my second meal out since Covid. When...we got there they said our seating was for outside (picnic tables which are great for super casual but this was a couples date night) not patio which I had reserved. They did offer Indoor seating but I wasn’t comfortable dining inside yet although they had everything set up well and spaced out. After a bit of maneuvering they did find a table close to our reservation time on the patio. The service was good and I feel for the service staff under these circumstances (we left a hefty tip). I had the ahi tuna salad which is typically very good but mine was not prepared as requested and the tuna was not the highest quality. My husband had steak and he enjoyed that (someone else’s cooking!!!). I didn’t inquire about our friends dinners but they seemed ok. The chicken fingers and French Fries were massive quantities. All said , I will try again. It’s a great spot for families.More
We were seated at our reservation time and the server was courteous and prompt. All the meals were served promptly. The only criticism is the hamburger was very rare for a 'medium'.
Would definitely eat ther again.
The service is A+. It is a great concept that every waiter or waiteress will help you. Wish other places will do that. It is part of the NOVA chain called Great AMerican Restaurants. THis one is a Cowboy themed. Heard it has a good...beer. Didnt try any. The food is very good.More
Part of Northern Virginia chain called Great American Restaurants Sweetwaters is a Cowboy themed restaurant with good local brewed beer. Comfortable and casual it is good for after movie meal or to meet friends after work. A little too noisy for business meals and popular...for sports watching.More
