First time to The Shanty tonight and went on a recommendation found on a blog. So glad we went! The atmosphere is no frills, right on the water and serves a variety of seafood favorites as well as other dishes. We went for a casual...dinner and in our party, we ordered the clam chowder (which was uniquely different than any other I've had and now may be my favorite), shrimp basket w/fries, oyster basket w/fries and fish and fries and a beer. All were served with sauces of your choice, tartar, cocktail, signature sauce and a vinegar sauce for the fish. The sauces were variations on the old standbys but not so different that you felt like they were messin with tradition. We liked it. We all agreed that our meals were delicious and we were satisfied but when a friendly server comes along and temps you with key lime pie and warm brownies a-la-mode WITH chocolate sauce, well, the rest is history. We caved and got both to share and left The Shanty saying, "We'll be back!"More

We really enjoyed this restaurant. It was chilly night so indoor dining was the only option. The staff was very friendly. We had Oysters, Fish Tacos and a Clams with Linguini... All excellent. They had taps with local brews and national brands. The restaurant is...right on the water. We wandered the docks while waiting for our table. If you are near Cape Charles, Virginia, find this restaurant... It's worth the money.More

The Shanty has wonderful outdoor seating on a covered patio with a perfect sunset view over the water. There are also tables on the lower deck w/ no cover but some view. We were thrilled with our wonderful dinners. We had scallops and the night's...special swordfish. Both were generous portions with great sides! I had five large scallops; perfectly cooked......most seafood restaurants you maybe get three! Our waitress Becky was delightful. Thanks for a great meal!More

Typical seaside restaurant! Rustic interior with outdoor seating. Excellent service! The she crab soup had very good flavor, could have enjoyed more crab in it... The Oyster po boy was extra good with the addition of bacon. Great fries and fried Brussel sprouts! Again excellent...service!More

The meal was amazing. The clams were the nicest looking and best tasting clams we have ever eaten. The prices were reasonable. The blackened shrimp was also good. All the dishes we saw going to other tables also looked very appealing. The server was pleasant...but not very attentive. We would return.More

After watching the sunset we walked over the bridge to the restaurant. Luckily they were still open, the pub turned us away-thank goodness! Jason and Amanda took great care of us at the bar with good food, cold beer and attentive service-much appreciated! My oyster...Po Boy was delicious. The tables were well distanced and the team had on masks.More

We were in cape charles for only 5 days, but ate at the Shanty twice. Food is excellent, everyone is friendly from the hostess to the waitress, nothing beats the fresh seafood and beautiful scenery.

Unique location. Relaxed environment. Fun music. Good food. Friendly staff. A must do experience for anyone visiting Cape Charles (but try to go when it is not too crowded).

Yes totally dog friendly! And there are areas to take your dog to do his/her business as well. When I was there there were 3 groups that had dogs. Cool place to watch the sunset!

Interestingly, I thought they did but crabs are not on their current menu. They do serve clams, mussels, oysters, fish. You can go to their website.
