Great food, really great food, and generous portions too. A great wine list too, and not pricey. The service was attentive. Overall it was a great dining experience and at an honest price.

We went to Avellino's for my daughter's birthday with family and friends. The atmosphere is great and they get very busy so make a reservation. The food is very good which was a pleasant surprise considering I wouldn't think Italian food in western Virginia would...be. I had a seafood pasta dish with sea bass and it was delicious. The manager was great and our waitress Cassidy was awesome. The food came out with the perfect timing in-between courses. The only negative is the bar. If you want more than one drink per person order them all at once because you will be waiting a long time before they come to your table.More
I rarely write reviews, but I had to write one after eating at Avellinos. I was visiting Blacksburg and had just recovered my smell & taste after a bout with Covid. I was craving a nice Italian meal and was intrigued by the online reviews....Avellinos was about 15 minutes away from where I was staying, but something told me to make the trip and I'm really glad I did. I ate lunch there at 2:00 on a Thursday afternoon. The restaurant is really cute and inviting inside and the person who seated me was very nice. I immediately felt welcome there. The first thing I noticed was that the restaurant was still at least half full at 2:00 in the afternoon. I sat near a table of people who spoke fluent Italian the entire meal and they were obviously enjoying their food and the atmosphere. There were lots of businesspeople wearing suits & ties in there as well as students and other people dressed casually like me. Music from Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Louis Prima was playing in the background. My server, Krissy, was the best server I have had in a long time. She was very friendly and attentive and she made my experience there a real joy. She told me she had moved here from New Jersey and that she knows authentic Italian food. She told me that all of Avellinos' food and sauces are prepared in house and that they could accommodate dietary restrictions. She promised I would love the meal and said the food is so good that it sometimes gives her chills! I thought that was really funny but she was actually right. She also told me that people tend to have long, relaxed meals there, especially on their patio during nice weather. I have never been to Italy, but I lived in France and it reminded me of cafes in Paris where people sit for a few hours enjoying a nice bottle of wine, excellent food, and good conversation. The first thing Krissy brought me was this amazing bread that is hard to describe. It is nice, thickly sliced Italian bread. I can't do it justice, but it is really crispy on the outside and soft and warm in the middle. The bread is totally addictive and I feel sorry for anyone who is gluten free and can't eat it. I'm embarrassed to say that I ate the entire loaf very quickly and ordered some more. I had a Capresa salad and a cup of homemade chicken soup as appetizers. Tomatoes were not even in season at the time, but the salad was delicious. Ditto for the soup, which was obviously homemade and a real treat. My main course was simple cheese ravioli made in a vodka sauce and it was really, really good. I finished my gigantic lunch off with a slice of limoncello cake, which was also quite memorable. I literally enjoyed every bite of food I ate there. There's an old country expression I love when food is really good: you tell the cook that they "put their foot in it." Not sure the origin of that expression, but it is a big compliment when someone tells the cook that they put their foot in it. haha. So anyway, the chef at Avellino's clearly put their foot in my entire meal today! I eat out a lot, and lunches can often be uninspiring or an afterthought for the staff. Not this one. Really well done in a friendly, casual, welcoming atmosphere. A review I read on here called this restaurant a gem, and I wholeheartedly agree with that. Avellinos is my new favorite restaurant in Bburg and I definitely recommend it. Thank you to Krissy and the entire staff for making what was supposed to be a quick, simple lunch into a really wonderful, memorable dining experience.More
The vodka sauce was superior - this place has some of the best Italian food out there (and I’m from NJ). If you’re visiting Virginia Tech and you don’t visit this place you’re missing out. Such incredible flavors in all of the sauces (ranch included)....Servers were also great, which just made everything even better! Highly recommend!More
Seemed like our waitress wasn’t interested in helping our table at all. Service was slow, had to ask for refills from other people, and she couldn’t have cared less if we were satisfied or not. Also, my dish wasn’t appetizing at all, told her that...and it was clearly noticeable w a full plate of food, all she did was take my plate away. Was hoping for a better experience.More
It was amazing! Very fresh ingredients, good quality and nice atmosphere! %100 recommended if you like italian food! Gluten free options available and delicious too!
As an Italian this food was the worst non authentic Italian GARBAGE I have ever tasted. So many problems with the bland gross food. The largest problem was the insane amount of GARLIC! The food has full chunks of garlic tossed in, this is not...how Italians cook or eat, no one should eat that much garlic. The simple easy to make, can't mess it up, caesar salad was inedible. I put it close to my mouth and my nose started to burn from the garlic. caesar salad should have garlic, however, that much garlic is excessive and wasteful to say the least. This much garlic was on every one of my dishes. Some other problems include the fact that the tomato sauce on the pie and the eggplant parmigianno were extremely bland with no flavour whatsoever. The pasta alla vodka sauce had absolutely no flavour at all it was just creamy and overly garlicy. The only good part was the crust on the pie, it was okay. The bread was also nothing special, just make your own bread. The worst part about this experience, was that I had to make dinner to eat after anyway and wasted 60 dollars and perfectly good ingredients.More
I eat here at least once a week 😆. Their pizza is amazing and the veal piccotta is to die for. Great portion sizes. Salads are awesome and huge. A little secret which you would not expect is the they have the best burger in...town.More
Delicious food, good wine, nice service, pleasant setting. There is some outdoor dining. Don’t let the mall location dissuade you from going. This was a great find.
Looking for a late dinner after a rainy day of travel, we remembered a previous visit to Avellinos and the wonderful meal we enjoyed (That was back in 2017!) It was a slow Tuesday night due to heavy rains but still a decent crowd and...they were well staffed. Parker, our server, as well as the other staff members were friendly and provided exceptional service. We split an order of Francesca's Lasagna and still had some to carry home! When our bread basket was empty, another appeared. The restaurant is not in a "you see it when you drive by" location, but we were glad we remembered them and their location in the First and Main Shopping Mall.More
If you're looking for an upscale place to take the family or treat your kid and their roommate, Avellinos is the place. It is a solid, credible Italian meal no matter what you get. It is a place for grownups who know what Italian food...tastes like in American. The pizza is New York style and ranges from simple and nice to a completely extravagant experience. If you want eggplant or sundried tomato on your pizza, you simply can't do better.More
We ordered online for carry-out. Two lasagne dinners and a piece of lemon cake. The online app said the order would be read at 7:01 PM. I arrived at 7:02 & of course our food was not ready. I was assured it would be ready...in another 10-15 minutes. I stood by watching customer after customer pick up their carry-outs before me. I was repeatedly assured my food would be ready in just a ‘few minutes’. After waiting for 25 minutes I requested that they just refund my money (I was crazy enough to prepay online). The cashier said she would get a manager. When the manager came he told me he’d be right with me as soon as he served one of the tanks (as though I hadn’t already waited too long while others patrons were served!) He left & before he came back I was finally given my food. I returned to my hotel room only to discover the restaurant had neglected to provide us with any eating utensils or napkins! Lasagne is not a finger food, so I again left my hotel to find a Dollar Tree store where I purchased two forks, spoons & knives. I returned to my hotel to try to enjoy my cold lasagne and warm tossed salad. The room temperature lemon cake was very good. I suspect the lasagne would have been pretty good as well had I been able to eat it while it was still hot. All in all, a pretty miserable experience. There are other Italian restaurants in the area. Do yourself a favor and give them a try.More
Something is just off with their cheese and sauce. Crust is terrible and we all tossed it aside. The general the taste isn't good. Service was great and I'm sure their food is otherwise excellent.
They feature Mediterranean (Grecian and Italian cuisine) but don't understand the nuances and native touches of quality. Designed for the Olive Garden lovers of frozen entrees not for quality "made to order" expectations. Sal understood the difference!
I absolutely love the ambiance of this restaurant and the food is DELIGHTFUL! We went as a couple and the selection is great.
