Big Time Flavor from Big Fatty’s

My family loves a good bbq place. Whenever we’re traveling, we seek out a new place to try. We were exploring and stumbled upon this place. The portion sizes were very good for the price. Speaking of price, this meal was far more reasonably priced and far more enjoyable than others we had in the area, so this was a bargain. There was great smoke flavor on the ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. The sauce was nice and tangy, very vinegar based. The slaw was okay. The tater tots were nice and crispy, and tasted like there may be some dry rub on it. The Mac and cheese was really creamy. The restaurant itself was very warm inside, but it beat the humidity of the evening. If you like some quality q, don’t skip this!

Nice place - Great Beer Selection - OK BBQ

While riding through the area, I spent the night in White River Junction. I went downtown to check out the River Roost Brewery and found that there are a few restaurants all clustered near it. Big Fatty's BBQ looked good, so I went in. They love their beer, and even have a side shop selling craft beer. Inside, there are lots of tables (and seating outside too) and a long counter where you can order beer. For beer, you take a seat at a table and a server will come to you (you don't order food at the counter). I sampled a bit from their extensive craft beer menu - good selection and prices. I order a combo - burnt tips and 1/4 chicken with slaw. The slaw was good, but they messed up my order, bringing me brisket and the breast portion of the chicken. They offered to fix it, which I declined, but they did bring me some burnt ends to try. Overall, the portion size is good and prices are not bad. I wasn't terribly impressed with the BBQ though... the brisket was dark (almost like it had been warmed up a few times) with no smoke ring and no bark... flavor was a bit bland. The chicken was tender (and I even found a few feathers on a wing!) but no smoke ring either. The burnt ends were tender but no bark to them. Again, the prices are good, and the beer selection is good, and the food is OK... this is a nice place for a relaxed meal. There were quite a few families here (babies, toddlers, little kids, teens, adults) which probably attests to the popularity of the patio, drink selection, and price points.

You won’t be disappointed

Big fattys is the best BBQ around hands down. I recommend getting any combo. The combos have enough meat for 2 people. The BBQ sauces are served on the side so you can choose sweet, spicy, tangy, maple mustard. The brisket is suppah tender and flavorful. The burnt ends are beautifully chard, tender and tasty. I am not a fan of pulled pork but I must admit big fattys is good. I love the 1/4 chicken leg/ thigh it is full of flavor, crispy skin and tender. The brisket Mac and cheese with caramelized onions is a go to order, it is not super cheese but has a nice sharp cheddar tang, the sweet caramelized onions and the savory brisket work together well. The regular Mac N cheese is a thick sauced sharp cheddar and burst with flavor.The ribs are not baby back tender it is a saint Louis rib but are very flavorful. I do miss the salad bar. I wish they would add some sides like potato salad, corn on the cob, macaroni salad. I have had BF potato salad and it is good. I would pay additional money for sides. If you should be at BF and they have sweets cookies, brownies, whoopee pies, chocolate chip bacon cookies don’t pass them up take one home for later. What ever you choose is quality food. You might be sitting here saying this chick is a local. I have eaten all across the United States and Europe. I have eaten at 5 star elegant establishments and road side shacks that had food as tasty as a 5 star. BF is simply good food!

The place is dingy. The burnt ends were served with a sauce that was vinegar and mustard based I think, and that sauce made the dish just awful. The meat was tender, but lacked any smoke flavor. The wings were good and fresh, but really salty. I waited about 40 minutes for the take out and if I did not ask for the utensils, they would not have given them to me. The prices were just outrageous for the quality of food and the ambiance.

Decent barbecue spot off highway

Go for the burgers! My boyfriend had a burger and loved it. Fries were great too. The Mac and cheese was not my favorite - it was a little bland. The chicken tenders were completely disappointing. They were clearly frozen and of extremely poor quality. At a Barbeque/wings spot I would expect the chicken tenders to be made in house. Staff was kind, friendly and helpful! I’d consider returning but only for the burgers.

We are very picky BBQ and brisket people, having eaten bbq across America. We know good brisket.😉 Our expectations were pretty low as such but decided to give it a go. WOAH. Blackened brisket ends were amazing, generous in size, and the actual homemade Mac-n-cheese was bomb. Sat at the live edge wooden counter, there was live music (Thurs, Fri & Sat), so the combo was PERFECT with a pint of Downeast strawberry cider. We were stuffed when we left and still had some leftovers to take. The vibe is very casual, which we LOVE, and seat yourself goodness. Will be our new local best BBQ.

Skip the burnt ends!

We stopped here for the first time and I was excited to get the burnt ends, which are like meat marshmallows. What I was served was two fairly large chunks of meat, one of which was so tough I could barely cut it. Chewing it was a chore. I’m a big eater and can usually eat anything, but this was just gross. It came with cole slaw and that was pretty bland. Everything else was great-fries, kielbasa and mac and cheese.

Not Worth the Wait

I visited this restaurant based on previous reviews, but was very disappointed. First of all, it took a half hour after ordering before my grilled portabella burger arrived. When I got it, the portabella appeared raw and not marinated or grilled as described in the menu. The cheese that topped it was unmelted so the mushroom was certainly not too hot. The only warm and tasty part was the caramelized onions. A side of French fries was included, but they were limp and greasy. Obviously this restaurant has a large local following as it was packed at 6 PM, and had a Happy Hour aura.

Great Southern BBQ in a Northern Atmosphere

What a place to stumble onto for lunch! Out on the road again for work in New Hampshire and ventured across the river for lunch... Nice menu and a very nice selection of beers avaiable (draft & canned). We ended up getting teh brisket poutine and pulled pork nachos, both off of the specials menu, and some brisket mac & cheese. The poutine was OUTSTANDING! Overall, the meal was amazing and at a decent price! The service was on point too!! If'you're hungry, go here!!

Barbecue Surprise for a Couple of Southerners!

The serve staff was very friendly and attentive. We ordered the 1/4 barbecue chicken, Cole slaw and baked beans. Being from the South where we take our barbecue and sides very seriously, we were surprised to find all three dishes to be so good. The chicken was tender and juicy and the sauce was delicious. The cole slaw was just right for this southern girl. The baked beans were seasoned just right. And the Coke was in a can and ice cold! The meal was simple but was one of the best we have had on our trip. We highly recommend this restaurant!

The absolute WORST BBQ and service I’ve ever experienced.

Wow! Well after staying away from this place for 3 years we decided to give it another chance. Ultra, ultra bitchy server for no reason even though we went out of our way to be nice to her. Terrible, dry, disgusting ribs. Dry burnt ends. If you’ve ever had bbq in the South prepare to be SEVERELY dissatisfied on every level. The beer was good but overpriced.

Excellent BBQ

Food was excellent! Sorry I didn’t take pictures. Had the Little Piggy which was supposed to be 8 oz of pulled pork but it seemed much more. My friend had the cuban and loved it too. Ordered chicken wings which were delicious as well and french fries. Everything was delicious and wasn’t “heavy” if that makes sense. Highly recommend trying if you are passing through or in the area.

Just moved to the area from Portland, Maine region so we were eager to try the local bbq. We tried a handful of offerings on their menu. I should note that I also do my own smoking so I can appreciate how difficult it is to do good bbq. Pros: brisket - very tender and flavorful. Hard to find this done right and they succeeded. Pulled pork was awesome - great flavor with or without any sauce. Speaking of which their bbq sauce is great. Cole slaw also a hit. Cons: the ribs - not only were they not tender, but they were really tough. Pulled chicken was dry and flavorless. Pretty dissapointed in both these dishes. The mac n cheese and cornbread were average. Overall, look forward to going back and trying the brisket and pork again.

Legit BBQ in southern VT. I enjoyed a late lunch here with a friend on a recent December afternoon. The pulled pork and the brisket were absolutely delicious - perfectly seasoned, moderately smokey, and not smothered in sticky sweet barbecue sauce. The bacon cornbread and the mac & cheese were also killer. The adjacent beer store has an amazing selection of Vermont craft beers and other hard to find cans. Great spot, I’ll be back!

Stopped by on a recommendation from my brother while on a road trip. The bar that was set, was high. Big Fatty's exceeded ALL expectations. Ordering online was easy. Food was ready quickly. Price was more than fair for the size of the portions. We had enough left-overs that we had it for breakfast the next day. The burnt ends and brisket were flavorful and tender. The ribs were meaty and juicy. Cornbread... moist and crumbly. All around great meal. We will be back!
