Unique place with a great atmosphere! Great service and very good food. A short but powerful menu with good variety of meats, vegetable dishes and very original desserts. Waitresses were very kind and helpful, always paying attention to your needs. Definitely a must place to eat in Waterbury either inside the old house or outside in the terrace by the... More

I believe a reservation is recommended so plan ahead and don't miss this place. The interior is cozy cool and makes you want to keep eating and keep drinking just so you can stay longer. We loved every single dish we got here and the service was wonderful as well. This is one of those restaurants that I'll never forget... More

Since the restaurant is named after a wild mushroom I was expecting wild mushrooms on the menu. Unfortunately, there were no mushrooms at all. I ordered a corn and lobster soup, an American prosciutto dish and a duck entree. The corn soup was fine but it didn't come with much lobster. The prosciutto was fine and what I expected. The... The restaurant was very dimly lit upon entry, so much so that the menus were difficult to read. Very limited menu. Everything a la carte. Fritter appetizer was excellent. Halibut was a little overcooked but tasty. A great cup of coffee (Vt. Artisans).

Have eaten here three times over the past few years and the level of quality and innovation coming out of the kitchen is always astoundingly excellent. Wonderful flavor combinations and use of local ingredients. They've got a killer cocktail menu -- really interesting combinations -- plus excellent wine list and some very good choices of local craft breweries. Not to... More

It was our second time to Hen of the Wood and it once again it blew our socks off! The building is very special, food is amazing, and staff is super professional. This trip we were on our honeymoon and they couldn't have been nicer - a card, complimentary champagne and candles in our dessert! So nice, so special!

There are so many fabulous restaurants scattered around the small towns of Vermont that one could spend a year getting to know them all. But my favorite is the truly exceptional Hen of the Wood. You can visit their new place in Burlington, which is just as good as the original in Waterbury (right near the Ben & Jerry’s factory),... More

If it's on the menu, you need the fire roasted broccoli. As someone who eats a vegetarian diet 90% of the time, it was a perfectly balanced plate. My carnivore husband even loved it. This is a beautiful restaurant with a warm and cozy atmosphere near the lake. A must-do for visitors and special celebrations for locals!

This restaurant is classically full, so calling 3 days in advance allowed only an 8:30 reservation for us. With an open invite to cover any cancellations at an earlier time, we were pleased to have a Friday call for 7;30 instead. On arrival, the Host smiled and said one of the streamside tables was open (literally best view in the... More

The food is unique, savory and you talk about it for days after. The service is exceptional with very knowledgeable staff in every area. Be sure to check out the great view of the falls from the patio. Not to be missed.
