We went on a Sat afternoon the food was okay. The sweet potato fries were great the salad consisted of a bowl of Romain lettuce, a few cucumber slices and cherry tomatoes. The hotdog was okay the tater tots were cold.
The service was fast, but it was really weird that we’re on the back deck with two other families and a server comes and start sweeping up all the dust off the floor while we were trying to eat.
The restaurant and summary is okay. Nothing I would go out of my way for.

Really great hidden spot for dinner. Don't take reservations but arrived on a Monday evening around 7:45pm and waited 5 min for a table.
Ordered nachos as an appetizer - was a bit different (cheese sauce instead of real melted cheese, no salsa). Burgers are top-notch, probably one of the best we've had and comes with a healthy dose of kettle chips.
Food came fast, service was great. Definitely a recommendation if you want a laid-back place to eat.

At the Backyard restaurant in Stowe Vermont
When we arrived it was raining and I believe that the crowd was diminished because of that. We were inside but there is an outside seating area (duh! Backyard). Staff members were observed with tee shirts that indicated that their primary responsibility was outside but apparently not needed at the time. A homey place with eclectic decorations and an extremely long bar with seating the whole length. The selection of beer, in chalk writing, is at the bar and on the opposite wall is a chalk board with staff picks for beer. Mell took care of us but was absent when the current staff picks were collected. His suggestion was blood orange Radler and I think it was a good suggestion – light with good flavor. The others ordered the appetizer of fried Brussel sprouts (a huge bowl full was brought) with siracha crema. I don’t do Brussel sprouts but they managed to eat them all.
I ordered the Philly Cheese steak with a substitution of Swiss cheese instead of the American cheese. One other ordered the Bacon and Bailey Hazen Blue Burger without a bun. No mention of doneness was made but it came out just right – a little pink in the center so not well done. The other one ordered the Carne Asada Tacos (3) and that worked well for her. Mell checked on us frequently to see if everything was OK.
The establishment serves liquor but we noticed several family groups with well-behaved children. All in all it was a delightful experience. Recommended.

$120 for 5 lemon drop shots…. the bartender for sure ripped off me and my friends. No shot in Stowe, Vermont should cost $24 each.
The staff (at least the ones that I encountered) were unfriendly and the whole atmosphere made me feel really uncomfortable from the moment we walked in.

Family stopped at this location for lunch while we were spending the day in the Stowe area, since we received recommendations as this being the place to try for a great local burger. Restaurant was mildly busy at the time of our arrival. We were greeted and seated fairly quickly after arriving. Our table was outside with the majority of the other patrons, which was somewhat noisy and definitely warm that early afternoon.
Waitress was polite but not overly punctual. Seemed like she may have been stretched thin covering all the tables outside (i.e., we only saw one other server helping out a couple times during the hour or so that we were there). Took a fair amount of time between check-ins and usually had to wait a while to get anything that we requested.
On the plus side, the food was as good (or even better) than expected. Burgers were wonderfully prepared, and the tator tots were crisp and pleasingly seasoned. Sodas tasted funny, but it seems like their fountain dispenser was having troubles. As good as the food was, I’m not sure if our meals and drinks were worth almost $25 per person.

Husband had the Turkey Sammy. He said it was good. I had the house salad with chicken added - not good. The chicken was shredded and almost no flavor. Any time I've added chicken to a salad it's always been a grilled piece of chicken. I ordered cider and guess I should have asked before ordering. It was in a can. Should have made sure it was in draft form like beer. Took couple of sips and left the rest. Service pretty slow, but that's common a lot because of lack of employees most places have run into. On positive note, the tater tots were delicious. Be sure to visit the restrooms - really funny signs.

Stopped for dinner, great location. Very clean, staff were welcoming and quick service.
Popcorn chicken app was yummy!
Caesar salads were fresh and just the right amount of dressing.
Chicken tacos were so good, not too spicy, but a little kick
Cheeseburgers were also a hit!
We will definitely be back for another visit.

My family loved this restaurant. So much that my kids wanted it a second time we went out to eat. The tater tots were yummy, but if you have kids, you can ask them to be lightly seasoned. The ketchup were bottled in honey bottles, which my daughter got a kick out of. Burgers and grilled cheese got excellent reviews the first night. I had the vegetable focaccia which was just ok (I felt the bread was a bit cold and hard). But the second night, while my family got the exact same thing as they did previous night, I ordered the brussel sprout tacos. Now those were amazing! Highly recommend!

Second year we came to Stowe for a week long ski vacation and the kids requested this restaurant again. So of course to placate (and we had great experiences last year here) my husband and I brought the kids here again. No complaints (except they were out of brussel sprouts so no brussel sprout tacos - I ordered fish tacos). Food was excellent all around again. My kids loved how the TV showed people backcountry snowboarding and skiing. My daughter loved coloring and the hostess was so nice to give her more coloring pages. Waitress was also very attentive. If we come to Stowe next year, this restaurant will again be on our list of places to eat again.

Most places are closed on Monday, so our options were slip. I thought I'd trust my Tripadviser freinds.
We sat outside to have a beer and dinner just as the sun was setting. It got a little chilly and Lori moved us inside with a smile, took our order, and was very gracious. I ordered what I thought was a single burger but it had two patties that had tons of flavor. My husband had the mushroom burger and he said it was one of the best he's had in a very only time. We enjoyed every bite.

This was an unexpected surprise. All the restaurants in the area were packed and had long waits, so we stumbled into this restaurant and were so glad we did! The food was fantastic with huge portions! My daughter and her friend said the Buffalo chicken sandwich was the best they ever had. It was a very laid back place with great prices. I would definitely return!

This is hands down the best burger in Stowe and it must be newer than other restaurants that placed higher on the "best burger" list (I won't name them out of courtesy). I recently did a burger test while in Stowe for a week with my family and Backyard was absolutely the best burger out of the 4 that I had on this list. I have no doubt it will be in the top 3 soon.

Finished a morning of bike riding and wanted to grab a beer. Walked over to the Backyard because their door was open. We didn't realize they didn't open until 4 and it was 3:30. Since we wanted to grab a beer, they let us come in early and grab a beer. Later that same night we headed back because we want to hang out around the firepit. This time our server was Mandy and she was an absolute delight. We had a few more beers and the tator tots - you cannot go wrong with tator tots.
We will definitely go back when we return to Stowe!
