Not too large but big enough to hold the crowd of people who seem to come here for dinner. The menu is overwhelmingly huge- steaks, seafood, burgers, flatbreads, salads-- you name it. It does make you wonder how they keep that much food inventory without it going bad. Had some of the biggest shrimp in a shrimp cocktail that I'd... More

The atmosphere is very nice. It is eclectic with little trains that run overhead. Parking isn't always easy, but the service and quality of food is very good.

This was our first trip to Montpelier and we wanted to celebrate our anniversary in a special way. J. Morgan's had a 1900's motif with old style trains running on tracks approximately a foot from the ceiling. There were many different trains on various tracks throughout the restaurant. They ran quietly but provided a nice ambiance to a wonderful lunch.... More

We have heard for years that this was the best Steak House around. Traveled from Burlington to Montpelier for a 29th Anniversary Dinner, Steak was under-cooked for 41.00 and seafood platter cold, bones in white fish and breading that was soggy. What a let down after hearing such great things. The best part of our night was the bread and... More

Adjacent to the Capitol Plaza hotel, this steakhouse is apparently the go-to place for VT legislators, locals and tourists looking for a finely prepared, tasty meal, with good service and reasonably priiced. Haddock with crab topping was outstanding as was my wife's salmon Be sure to check out the amazing, uniquely prepared garlic bread.

I booked this restaurant 1 month in advance based on reviews and mentioned our 35th wedding anniversary. Travelling from Toronto to visit lovely Vermont At the end of dinner as waitress brought our check I asked if manager had perhaps forgotten. She got back and said we hadn't asked for anything! ! Paid bill and then asked for manager, of... More

I flew in on a Sunday for work, and chose J Morgan's for dinner. I was able to get a seat at the bar, but it took the bartender about seven minutes to "notice" me. She seemed more inclined to chat with her regulars than venture over to others. I asked for a food and drink menu and a water.... More

While there were many interesting items on the menu, my husband and I both chose the bone-in veal chop which was the special the night we were there. It was stuffed with sausage, spinach and other goodies and was truly delicious! Service was good; food was great. The bread, especially, was a warm loaf with grated cheese on top and... More

The restaurant is clean and nice looking. We went two times in July for breakfast. The cooking is not consistent. The first time we went my father's Egg's Benedict had the yolks cooked solid, the little cup for the ketchup on my husband's plate came empty. Everyone's potato's were cold. The second day I asked for a ham and cheese... More

We stayed at the Capitol Hotel and decided to dine at the steakhouse. Although we didn't have reservations we were seated promptly. Our visit was on a Wednesday evening and the later it got the more crowed it became. I would suggest making reservations for the weekend or if you have larger parties. Everything we ordered was delicious and perfectly... More
