From the second we walked in the door and were warmly greeted by the owner, the experience was the best we've had for a breakfast. It was such a nice experience we returned the next day to try other menu options. My wife needs to...eat gluten free and she was very happy with the options available to her. She had the GF pancakes and bacon which she enjoyed. I had the pumpkin pancakes with real maple syrup and it was so good. We were there on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Sunday was packed and we were put on a waiting list but only had to wait about five minutes at the busiest time that morning. The staff was very busy but some of the hardest working people I have seen at a restaurant. Although busy, they took time to answer questions and be pleasant and professional. This place operates like a well oiled machine. My father was a chef and he always said it is comforting to be able to see the chefs cooking in a kitchen because you can see the how your meal is being prepared and this is the case here. We were surprised and how quickly our meals were prepared even on the busiest morning. The restaurant is cozy and a little rustic but it adds to the charm. They also have many Vermont gift shop items around the restaurant for sale. When we leaving the first morning and I asked the owner for a recommendation for a celebratory steak dinner that night. He gave us a recommendation without hesitate and we had an excellent meal that evening. The next morning, as we entered, he remembered us and asked how our dinner was the night before. If I could give this place more stars, I would. Excellent.More

Had two lunches and one breakfast here earlier this July. The lunches were very good, the breakfast fabulous! This doesn't look like much on the outside and when you walk in you realize it is also a touristy gift shop - but behind the kitsch...is one great kitchen plus equally great service. I had three different servers on three different days and all were friendly, accomodating and very efficient. The lunch menu is limited, but the standards are here and very well done. The first day I had a grilled cheese with tomato on toast and it was just as I hoped. I asked for it to come with extra tomato and it sure did. I forget the second day order but it was just as satisfying. But it is for breakfast and the pancakes that this place is worth taking a long drive for. I have never had better pancakes, light and fluffy. I ordered the cranberry, walnut pancake special and it was heavenly. Pancakes here are served with real maple syrup, the restaurant jokes that they will serve the fake stuff but at an extra charge. Speaking of charges, the prices are very reasonable and the portions ample. The standard portion for pancakes is four pancakes but they will bring a shorter stack if you ask and adjust the charge accordingly. The tables and chairs are kind of rough and ready and the atmosphere is busy, but cheerful - hey everyone eating here is happy. On the way out, buy some maple sugar products and have a reminder of a great meal breakfast to take home.More

I am part of a group of about 15 to 18 from the Class of 1968 that meets once a month at different places at noontime. We have been to Sugar and Spice once a year for several years as we like it so much....Some of us get pancakes (I love the blueberry with real maple syrup), or waffles, some like their delicious omelets, and some get soup, sandwiches, or both. There is always a big enough serving to take some home with the lunch sandwiches. I make a reservation, and they set us up at a huge long table in the back room and it is quiet enough to visit. they close at 2, but if you are driving on Route 4 in Vermont, it is a good place to stop. All the waitresses are great, and are very patient with us even when we don't all arrive at the same time. We would all recommend this nice restaurant.More

We decided to sit at the counter today and it is as good as at the tables. Kristi was right over and took our order. Mrs, B and I had the half sampler which was outstanding. The service was great throughout. Even the cooks asked...us, "How is the food" and were very friendly. It was packed and the service still was great!More

The location was a short drive from Killington. It was a store and a restaurant with some large syrup equipment in the center of the building. The seating was tight and the food was average. Some unique gifts in the basement shop.

We usually look forward to a visit to Sugar and Spice but we were very disappointed with the food. The waitstaff is always so great but the food was served cold, why we go there is for the waffles, the batter that day was sour....I hope they turn it around!More

Best breakfast anywhere. Kelly our server was right over to the table with our coffees. She returned and took our order. She was on top of things throughout. Mrs. B and I both ordered The Sampler. Come hungry because this is not only delicious, but...huge. If there is a waiting list stay it moves fast.More

We loved this place, really traditional old barn style restaurant, the maple sugar and cinnamon pancakes were excellent and we had a nice omelette too. Great place to visit.

I stopped into Maple Sugar and Vermont Spice Restaurant for a mid-morning brunch. I sat at the bar by the kitchen and enjoy some delicious pancakes with local maple syrup. In fact, in true Vermont fashion, there is an upcharge for artificial syrup which was...awesome! The service was great and I enjoyed chatting with the staff coming by. They sell a number of gifts and maple items in the gift shop. I purchased some maple candy and syrup to take with me. I highly recommend this restaurant for some good, Vermont food!More

Maybe this place is riding on it's laurels too long. Maybe I shouldn't have ordered a salad at a pancake place. But, I got their salad yesterday and it wasn't good. A big unripe tasteless tomato. A few giant lettuce leaves. And a pile of cold...cuts. That plus a small coffee cost $16 plus change for take-out. I was mad.More

We had a long wait but it was a Sunday and a group of 8 so it was to be expected. I loved seeing the whole maple syrup making process ( of course, left with some). We had excellent service and a great meal. Portions...are big - 4 large pancakes per order-so I should have shared but they were delicious. Hot chocolate is a whipped cream, chocolatey delight. Would definitely eat here again.More

Such a friendly place with delicious breakfast food! We were greeted by a gentleman when we entered the restaurant, who was smiling and so welcoming. The wait staff were attentive and the food came quickly. I had a pumpkin pancake, the equivalent of Eggs Benedict...and home fries. All were delicious. My husband had the cinnamon maple pancake that was to die for. Definitely worth stopping for breakfast when in Vermont.More
