Must do if your in the area! My husband is a chef and loves French food and the food here is absolutely sensational! Everything is so fresh and so light. The restaurant itself is very well decorated very simple and elegant. We started with the...mistral salad with a Dijon tarragon vinaigrette which was so light and flavorful just the perfect amount of dressing my husband had the pate which he said was fantastic. My husband had the duck as his entrée which was cooked to perfection and I had the salmon stuffed with lobster in a buerre blanc sauce served with potato and fresh corn and carrots. The sauce was perfection and very light the vegetables so fresh. For dessert we had the lemon cake with blueberries and the trio of sorbets everything was delicious and homemade. They had a terrific 20 year port to enjoy with dessert and we purchased a bottle of wine with dinner the bottle prices are extremely reasonable. My only critique is the restaurant is extremely quiet there is absolutely no background music so we actually felt a little uncomfortable enjoying ourselves too much as we didn’t want to make too much noise. A little background music would add so much to the dining experience here.More

I’m not sure why we save Mistral’s for special occasions...every dinner out should be as outstanding as Mistral’s always is. The food and wine list shine. Service is always great. The place is immaculate and tastefully decorated. I’ve dined here for 30 years and have...never been disappointed.More

My friend and I went to Mistral's for dinner. We were greeted at the door and our coats were taken to be hung up. We were seated at a lovely dining room next to a bucolic scene overlooking a stream. The restaurant is expensive. I...was mentally prepared for that. Entrees are almost $40 each and Chateaubriand for two is $90. We ordered a bottle of Rijoa, an order of escargot. The sauce was lovely. I ordered the salmon stuffed with lobster. It was artistically arranged. The salmon was tasty. I think it could have been better though. The potato was bland. It reminded me of a dish from the 1950s. My friend had the filet minion with roquefort. It was a good cut of meat. The marinated mushrooms were delicious. The bread was ok. The salad was very fresh. I was impressed with the quality of the greens (it's now winter). We opted for the chocolate cake dessert to share and each had a cognac. We had an enjoyable evening lingering at the table. We both felt that for the price of the meal we had expected to be transported to another level of dining. Perhaps our expectations were too high. It felt as if the restaurant was trying to be something that it had not quite achieved. The touches to make the evening that much better would have been a person waiting to show us where they put our coats. We stood at the door waiting for someone to arrive with our coats (or to show us where they were left). Our waiter didn't notice us. We were then left to our own devices to find them. In the end, it wasn't a big deal but that was the final impression of our dining experience.More

After several years of trying we finally got to Mistrals. We never hit a day they were open or we were too lazy to drive up the mountain. We did it on a Friday night and it was nearly empty. The setting is almost unbelievable...on the banks of an active stream well lit for ambiance. I ordered the duck as did my wife and we both opted for the escargot for appetizers. You don't see escargot often these days for some reason but they were excellent. The secret is in the sauce and they hit it dead on. The duck was a good portion and crispy as ordered....excellent. Of course we indulged in a chocolate and ice cream dessert that was great. We come to Manchester frequently and from now on Mistral will be a must.More

We’ve eaten at Mistral at least once a year for 20 years and always regard it as an island of tranquility and civility in a town of often noisy and boisterous restaurants. The setting, overlooking a rushing stream on the side of a mountain, is...charming. Service is always attentive and professional. The cuisine is French or French influenced with many choices of appetizers, entrees and desserts. All are generally well prepared. Not nouvelle French. Prices are on the high side when compared to local restaurants.More

Visiting Vermont for a wedding and the bride recommended this restaurant for dinner. The atmosphere was cozy and our table was by the window overlooking the rocky stream that I wanted to put my feet in immediately. The whole restaurant had a warm local feel....Our meals were delicious, the wine selection extensive, our server attentive and professional. My amazing choice was the Salmon Cannelloni - very inventive and tasty. We would certainly return if we were in Vermont again.More

We were steered to dinner at Mistral by our hosts at the Inn at Ormsby Hill. We had made reservations well in advance, worried it would be crazy busy by mid-August. But we were relieved to find that on a Sunday evening it was quiet,...calm, and smoothly running. One item I had seen on the menu earlier was Sweetbreads--those delicacies that are hard to find, hard to prepare well, and can go terribly wrong if not. No worries here! They were wonderfully prepped and cooked by the chef. He was very willing to let us try them as an appetizer size; not disappointing at all. The remainder of our meal was great! Rack of lamb, freshly prepared Striper, and well paired wines suggested by our server. Dessert was highlighted by Profiteroles with a candle for our anniversary. Thanks for a memorable evening on the brook!More

Mistral's is a great dining choice in the Southern Vermont Region. We were a party of four and all had wonderful meals. The view of the stream running next to the building provides a very picturesque setting. The noise level was low which supported for...pleasant conversation among friends. The restaurant is elegant and has a fine wine list.More

Hello. Other than salad and onion soup I do not recall any vegetarian menu selections. You may want to call the restaurant. There might be vegetarian specials.
