7.17.22 We didn't stay here. We only had dinner. Upon entering the lobby I was pleasantly surprised at how nice and modern it was given the area which is very out-of-date, old and plain. A hostess walked us over to the bar area and our...drinks and dinner were served quickly. Our waitress even offered to split our bill when we paid. Food was delicious. My glass of wine was $8 so that's very reasonable.More

Reserved a suite for our anniversary for three nights changed it to two immediately after checking in would have been one if not for the 48 policy. Window AC was in the bedroom so the rest of the suite was very warm. We expected noise...from the Tavern until they closed at 11 pm but then the voices of the employees echoed for long after. Horrible mattress that creaked and sank in the center. Room was not clean there was dog hair on the kitchen chairs and bathroom floor and dirty bathroom walls Never had dinner downstairs as planned and each time we came back to the hotel lobby we had to squeeze by all the folks in there waiting to eat and drink. Very uncomfortable and no one is there at night you are upstairs on your own Emailed the owner about the dog hair she claimed she couldn't find any after we had been there two nights and left... well I CLEANED it so why would you. I sent her a photo of the hair and was issued a $50 credit so there's that. Never againMore

We have dinner here once a week. We have to drive 45 minutes to get to the restaurant, but it is worth the trip! The food is top quality and the service excellent. My husband owned a 5 star Italian restaurant in Philadelphia and we...are both fussy eaters. No matter which night you have dinner it is always consistent and that is crucial in the restaurant business. Menu is fairly prices and drinks are as well. Michelle at the front desk is always friendly and helpful and we just love Matthew! I love this place so much I bought their sweatshirt~!More

Very busy, very delicious local spot. We had about an hour's wait on a Saturday night -- the hostess took our names, and we went back across the street & finished getting set up in our hotel room. Wonderful dinner, lively atmosphere, beautiful surroundings.

We had lunch with our family on 9/25/21 at the Essex House in Island Pond. The Essex House has an easy to find location with plenty of parking. The staff was very friendly, welcoming and efficient!! The food and portion size was excellent and the...prices are very reasonable . I highly recommend you give them a try when in the area.More

Friendly service as usual. Service was prompt. Welcoming, comfortable clean bar setting . Food was tasty. Many options. The Maple fries were a treat but had an upcharge as did sweet potato fries. The place was full and seems to be a favorite of locals.

We booked an outdoor table on the first day this establishment re-opened with new precautions for safe dining during the pandemic. Seating was available both inside and outside, with good social distancing, masking up for all staff, and other sensible procedures like safe, escorted entry...and exit. There was a very pleasant expanded area of umbrella-shaded picnic tables on the back lawn, with a burbling brook running right alongside to lend some atmospheric "refreshment" on a hot day. We chose that and were very happy to have our lunch outdoors. As most will admit, things have been rather stressful, so we went right for the comfort food: bacon and cheese turkey melt and fried haddock, both with very generous portions of fried potatoes. With the high temp and bright sunshine, we opted for big glasses of iced fizzy water with lemon and ended up having two each. Perfect! The day was memorable, not only because of the tasty food and pleasant surroundings, but especially because everyone was so doggone happy to be there, after a long time of at-home dining and take-out as the only options during months of closures. The staff were equally so, clearly excited and enthusiastic about being back to work. As a bonus, the drive to Island Pond from Montpelier, through the beautiful surrounding woods, added to the pure delight of returning to something that seemed, if only briefly, like a return to normal life. Highly Recommended.More

The Essex House is one of the best restaurants to grace Island Pond in the last 2 decades. Really consistent, good menu choices, and simply fantastic food.

Casual comfortable atmosphere with above average service. Staff was positively engaged with customers which enhanced our experience. My husband and friend said it’s the best turkey club they ever had. My chicken Caesar was freshly made and very tasty. We also tried stuffed mushrooms, Haddock...chowder, Thai chicken with rice and Maple Fries. I didn’t eat the mushrooms but was told they were okay. Everything else was delicious. We had quite a hearty lunch here.More

They always have Guiness, others vary. I'm pretty sure Switchback is a choice. The last time I was there a Burlington Coffee Porter was on tap. I'm sure there was an IPA too.
