We had dinner here, with a two-year granddaughter, on a cold winter night. We found the restaurant warm and inviting and child friendly. Even thought there is not a children’s menu they happily accommodated our special meal requests. The restaurant is not very big, but there is nice spacing between tables to offer some measure of private conversation space. Lots of diverse food choices and our family enjoyed soups, salads, burgers, and sandwiches.

Had an early dinner before a show. The menu had a large number of appetizers and salads but only 4 or 5 entrees. Two were steak; there was a salmon and a risotto. We had an onion soup and a filet. Both were excellent and the service was quite good. I had a cocktail and it was properly made. The hostess didn’t seat most of the new arrivals but simply pointed to a table for them. I found that a little odd.

I know you go to a restaurant for the food, but I must mention an exceptional server named Katie, who made this a five star experience. Props to her lively personality that wasn’t too much, and definitely an amazing willingness to serve her customers. On to the food… We wanted to eat “lighter” so opted for soup and salad. My choice was the white bean soup. It was nearly perfect and became absolutely perfect when upon request, Katie provided the grated Parmesan to sprinkle on top. I didn’t want it to end and wished to lick the bowl when it did!! My husband ordered the Vineyard Chowder- an over- the- top mix of seafood in a creamy, but not too heavy, delicious broth. It was a meal in a bowl and he barely had room for anything else. My summer salad and his Caesar salad were both excellent, but the taste of our soups still lingered large. There was great beer and drink selections and a cozy atmosphere, despite the historic high ceilings, and the bar being such a dominant part of the room. We went away very satisfied with our “light dinner”.

We had the Santa Fe salad and the seafood chowder. Both were good-the chowder was outstanding! Clams, haddock, mussels and a lone shrimp is a light creamy soup. It was a kind of small serving for the price ($18), served with a delicious piece of bread. But so good!

We were going to a show at the Vermont Comedy Club and looking for dinner nearby. The Gryphon was highly rated here, but the place I really wanted to go to had no seats available. I was disappointed. The server was not great. She never checked on us once we were served and never offered drink refills or dessert. The food was okay, definitely edible, but worth $40 per plate. And junk fees. They add 3% if you pay with a credit card. Yes, I fully understand the hidden costs to a business of accepting credit cards. But I oppose any business adding fees like this (or fuel user fees, or employee benefit fees, etc.). Just price your goods to reflect your true costs adequately.

Small but wonderful menu options & attentive service. When we first walked in, we realized that rather then this being a larger restaurant, it is a bar with maybe 6-8 dining tables and a couch/lounge area. The tables were of a great size, the ceilings are high with huge windows decorated with heavy and dark fabric curtains. The family at the next table played cards while they dined and other tables were comfortably chatting & enjoying the libations, food and atmosphere. We ordered the sweet potato nachos and ahi tuna to start, followed by the french onion soup and their seafood chowder. The food was superb and we said would be hard to beat during our stay. Highly recommend!

We took two at the bar on a relatively quiet evening and enjoyed the look and feel of the full wooden bar and the painted ceilings of the old Vermont Hotel. Liam prepared our bone-dry martinis, Titos shaken, and Tanqueray stirred, which sipped as we reviewed the menu. We started by sharing The Wedge with its locally sourced blue cheese and maple candied bacon....delicious! J had the fresh fettuccine with shrimp. the sauce was a delicate blend of garlic creme sauce, mushrooms, asparagus slices, and red peppers...a delightful blend of subtle tastes. R had the panko encrusted salmon over a bed of white beans, kale, and tomatoes in a lemon herb sauce. Salmon was cooked perfectly. Liam served us samples of his red wines, and we enjoyed glasses of the merlot and the malbec. The atmosphere was quiet as reserved and the perfect place to enjoy a quiet meal with excellent service.

This restaurant came recommended by the clerk at the front desk of the hotel. Best recommendation I’ve ever received. The filet mignon is to die for. It was so tender and juicy. I would highly recommend trying this little treat. The ambience was wonderful and the wait staff was friendly. If you’re in Burlington you must check this out.

We had some great dining experiences in Burlington, but this was one of the best. I ordered shrimp, scallops and grits with a lobster sauce -a big improvement over your regular shrimp and grits. Also, the mojito was made with green tea infused rum which was a very clean take on the traditional mojito. Reasonably priced for the value received and very friendly staff.

Located in a historic hotel, the room and bar are so pretty. We went for brunch but would be a nice place to meet for drinks as well. The food was very tasty but served lukewarm which is why it got the 4 stars instead of 5. Had the California Eggs Benedict and Hubby got the special brioche French toast with Marscapone cheese. food was good but would have been fantastic if hot! They seemed understaffed.

Our final meal after a 3 night stay in Burlington was here. Tried unsuccessfully to get an online reservation, and decided to just call to see what they said. We easily were able to eat at 6PM on a Thursday night during "stick season" in early November. We started with a bottle of pinot grigio. We both ordered the amazing vineyard chowder, with 4 kinds of seafood. Delicious-but we should have shared a soup! For entrees we had Gryphon Burger and Salmon. Both were very good. Very small and cozy space!

Just finished supper at the Gryphon. Very delicious food. We ate the sensational seafood chowder, the seafood grits, the seared tuna and the duck quesadilla. Finished up with very tasty plum tart and ice cream sundae. Good service. Attractive venue. Well priced.

I reserved for one person and was treated like I didn’t exist, obviously tables with more people get way more attention to the left and right of me. so I decided to take my second course home. still with a bottle of wine - which wasn’t poured properly - I had a turnover of 78 $ in 45 min and maybe 3 min attention for which I paid about 18 $. no problem if someone is nice but even as a single traveling well dressed business woman one deserves to be treated better. Management needs to take care of this. Food was very good as was the atmosphere and style of restaurant.

My husband and I were looking for a quick bite and drink before checking into our hotel. Excellent service sitting at the bar. She was personable and sweet. Knew her way around a drink too! We shared a house salad and a bowl of shrimp and lobster grits. The salad was pretty and their vinaigrette was on point but it could have been beefed up a little with maybe less greens and more crunch. The grits were a warm, comforting, creamy, decadent bowl of luxury. The shrimp and lobster were cooked perfectly and the lobster butter topping it was like inviting a bit of the ocean. Perfect seafood dish on a cold day.

Drinks were okay, food was nothing great. I had the tuna which was okay but my husband had the green fried tomato BLT and he said it was disgusting. It looked pretty bad also, like a 6 year old made it. Won’t return.
